    Hi, first time on your channel, you have done a great job. I bought my fist cnc a month ago, Onefinity elite foreman and I decided to install ATC spindle. Never done this before but I think I have finished connecting all pneumatic valves, water cooling and flow sensor today and everything looks working manually for now :-) (changing tools by pressing the button manually I mean), I need to make places for toolholders and to set tool positions in masso. I have connected manual tool release the way so it doesn't work while spindle is spinning as a safety precaution. There are 2 things I couldn't find how to do. The first thing is how to configure tool holder sensors in masso, have no clue where to find that? The second thing is how to configure the pneumatic valve that helps to clamp the tool if the spring fails (tool retracting valve). -To solve the 1-st issue with toolholder sensors I was thinking to use "open door" input for that, but I am still thinking on it. -Tool retracting valve (that clamps the toolholder in place), I was thinking of two possible scenarios, 1-st method to mount the time relay to normally closed contact , so when the output is High and tool is released the time relay is off, but when output goes low and the spindle starts to clamp the tool, then the normally closed contact turns on the time relay and it triggers the return air valve for 5 seconds (5 sec. is showed in the spindle manual) 2-nd method is just to connect return air valve to NC contact directly, so whenever output for tool release goes low, the tool retracting valve will be turned on, but it will have to be under pressure almost all the time, though I have checked, the spindle is still rotating well in that circumstances so I think it will also work. I am not willing to ask about the way you have done it, not trying to get your secrets, just trying to hear your prrofessional opinion on my humble thoughts, if possible off course. I am not professional in this subject and I am sorry if I sounds stupid, as I said I have never done this before, learning from youtube 🙂, from guys like you,Thank you for that. English is also not my first language, so I apologize for my mistakes and for very long text.

      All spindles are different, and so on, and the sensor can also vary. I have a few videos on installing my old ATC system, which I am no longer selling. But the ATC is without any sensors. But in the videos, I do kinda touch on the Masso layout and settings for an ATC. I would look over the docs for Masso on the ATC and also take a look at the forums. For the tool release, I would run that through the VFD itself to lock out the spindle from being able to open why it's running so it would look something like the selenoid In line with the VFD, and when the VFD is sending any type of power to the spindle, it will lock the selenoid out. Not allowing you to open the jaws by accident. Masso also has Open and Closed jaw sensor inputs. You need to make sure you have the correct sensors. Depending on the type of sensor, you might have to run some extra stuff to get them to play with Masso nicely.

    This is an amazing spindle, ive been running its predecessor S30c for 5 years, alex the owner of the company is an amazing guy and takes great pride in the manufacturing of his spindles. Rest assured that this is not some cheap chinesium spindle that bearings will cease after a year or two. Buying a machine specific kit takes so much guess work out of the equation. At 0.48 timestamp you say biggest number, the numbers are negative.... you want the smallest number (Mr. Literal here). Also, if you can get a helper to do this with it sure helps a LOT. Seeing or feeling a small deflection 4 feet away is tough. A jog wheel also makes it easier ... on click on the wheel was about a 0.01" movement at x100.

    The problem I see with adding a commercial high end spindle like this to these machines is that they resonate so much the whole gantry shakes, you spindle isn't going to fix that. You can really hear it at 21:55 . I've been running cnc routers long enough to know those vibrations transmit into the edge finish. Also Onefinity chose motors that are underpowered with not enough resolution for any real work in aluminum. They have them set from the factory for maximum torque with 400 steps per rotation this creates a horrible noise when not cutting straight lines and terrible edge finish when cutting 1/2" aluminum. I can get a REALLY NICE finish if I use a minimum of 4000 steps per rev but that really lowers the torque to much for roughing. I find with my 2.2kw spindle on the elite foreman It takes me 2.5x longer to do the same thing on the commercial machine I run for my day job. I know this is just my opinion and don't get me wrong you look like you have come up with quality product. Its just that I would think swapping all the motors out for something like the 3Nm Masso steppers first would be the bare minimum, That would require a new power supply and fuses but still doesn't solve the problem of having no brake on the Z axis and no shielded wire on the steppers to block the EMI from the spindle. I know that they announced a motor with brake recently but that is still only on the 1.2Nm version. Preferably I would go with AC Servo Motors. The other ATC kit option on the market for these machines comes with a 4 pole motor instead of 2 pole option which would be better for metal working as will.

    • @solafidedesignskc
      @solafidedesignskc 8 місяців тому

      1. You can change the resolution of the motors. Changing the resolution really won't affect the torque. Closed-loop steppers and servos will outdo a higher-rating stepper motor. It has to do with the way the feedback works, and power is delivered to the motor, and so on. Don't believe me, do some research. The lower torque motors on the elite will outdo the higher-rating stepper motors any day of the week on the other machines with higher torque rating 2. Resonates can be an issue with any machine 3. yes, this machine isn't as ridged as, say, a 210k or 500k machine. This is where knowing how to actually program the tool path correctly will come into play 4. I also ran a decent number of industrial machines, trained people on them, and set them up. Also, all my motors are running at 2000 resolution, and my Elite has had 0 issues with the motors not keeping up. I even ran 1.5 doc in solid oak, did a roughing pass, and then came in for a finishing pass. the chamfer was done at 4k RPMS. Most 2-poll industrial-grade motors can actually run down to a lower RPM and not stall out. Look at HSD and so on. Some of the most used spindles on industrial-grade machines
