so beautiful speaker and rig ❤
Thank you!
Great Violin tone! And of course sublime performance from my favourite Ukrainian Violinist! I have the same record set !
That Gray Research turntable is really something! Of course, the rest of the room is full of wonders, too... Lovely sound to this recording, JE!
Thank you! This is my favorite recording of the Korngold.
What a great idea for a channel! Did you make those components? Would love to hear about them
Thank you! I restored the 50s era turntable/tonearm/cartridge and built the tube preamp and power amp using pre-WWII tubes. The speaker cabinet was built by a friend based on my design and I installed classic Altec drivers from the 50s using a crossover network I configured. More info about the hifi rig build here - jelabs.blogspot.com/2024/10/je-labs-mono-hifi-2024.html - I hope you enjoy reading it!🙂
Even on the internet this sounds amazing. I'd love to have a DIY mono setup, but I've never done anything like this and it all seems overwhelming.
I've been doing DIY for at least three decades and have built my stereo and mono hifi systems to suit my requirements. Perhaps it's not for everyone. But IME, the time and effort I invested to enjoy my LP and CD collection has been worthwhile.
@@jelabs Yes, I've been following you for a while on various platforms and like your work. Any tips for a good starting place? Not necessarily a mono system; just a good place to begin the DIY journey. It seems like no matter where one starts it leads to another need/rabbit hole. For example, I'd like to try a 2a3 amp, but then I'd need speakers that it could drive. My easiest speakers to drive are 93dB and 10 Ohm. So, then I've got two projects!
@@jmal5390 - The Simple 45 - jelabsarch.blogspot.com/2012/06/je-labs-simple-452a3.html - is probably the easiest project in my blog. But it's not a kit, you'll have to source all the parts on your own which can be challenging depending on how much you know about electronics. I also can't do remote troubleshooting if you encounter problems. That said, as long as you listen within reasonable levels a 2 wpc amp can produce pretty high SPLs with 93dB sensitive speakers with benign impedance characteristics.
Sounds good!
What amp is that?
It's an SE46 amp I built, more info - jelabs.blogspot.com/2024/10/je-labs-mono-hifi-2024.html
I bought some Jii’s recently. After redoping the tweeters one sounds gorgeous but one has a faulty woofer and I’m having a hard time identifying the cause or a replacement drivers😢
If I had the speakers in front of me, I could probably help. However, remote troubleshooting, IME, is mere speculation. Hopefully you'll find someone local who can help you. Good luck!
❤❤
Hi, ive been watching your vids. for 2 to 3 hours this morning. The equipment and variety of music is great. The sound on UA-cam isn't really good. With all that great gear to be heard, you should invest in a really good microphone for your videos...😮
Point well taken! However, as stated in my "about section," I upload videos as a proof of concept of projects and/or supplement to my blog. Besides, I'm not here to sell anything.🙂I do this to inspire people to DIY and take the path less traveled because I love music! I've been on both sides of the microphone (as a classical musician/performer and also in a recording/mixing booth) and IMHO, I wouldn't use youtube videos for evaluating hifi equipment. Best to evaluate in person, just like going to a live concert!
Hi JE - I am interested to see what you'll do with your revived mono setup! My system has been mono for 2 years now, also with Altecs - just not the 604 :) I've recorded/published a video on my channel - from the same LP, played on my mono system.
Superb!
Thanks!
Wonderful ❤
Thank you!
Great Video!
Thanks, Mark! I was looking forward to meeting you there but heard that work got in the way. Hopefully next year!
@@jelabs I'll see you in the spring for sure. Mutually looking forward to it!
Always a quality clip, great tune machine
Very kind words, thank you!
Interesting, never thought to try my 32s with my 755Cs
As mentioned in the blog, I hardly used the 32 horn/SSD1800 combo. The 755Es can stand on their own. That said, IMHO, the top end airiness of the 32 horn (when properly implemented) is second only to the ribbon-like but extremely fragile Altec 3000 horn tweeter.
@@jelabs I think I might try this as my 414s are currently in storage.
@@BreakfastInEurope - Happy listening!
That's a very beautiful system! Wow! Sounds lovley ❤ keep on spinning my friend
Thank you!
Fascinating setup, 👍
Thanks!

He made a lot of people happy!
Can I find online the headshell case or it's custom made?
I bought it from this Japanese seller on eBay a few years ago - www.ebay.com/str/emjmusic - check if they still have stock. Good luck!
@@jelabs Thank you.
COOL 😎 SYSTEM...!
Thanks!
può dirmi il titolo dell'album? complimenti, bell'impianto, saluti da Catania, Sicilia, Italia
Please see the title, thanks!🙂
not keen on the record but love the setup.
I love it! But my wife would kill me! (I had a set of horns like that once...mine were EV and probably from the 60s. By far the most efficient highs I ever ran at home or on a concert rig, and we regularly ran Martin and JBL! They were only rated at 20 watts each, but they more than held their own supporting 1000s of watts of folded horn bass and mid cabinets). Those alone earned you a subscriber!
☺and thanks!
With compliments , best sound , this sound is not for all the people
Yup!☺
Lyle Mays ist ein großer Verlust... RIP
😥
This song should have been released as a single.
The system looks eclectic and diy. I'm sure it sounds fantastic in person! Some wires could be better hidden. The NAD amplifier looks like it has seen better years and could use a cosmetic face-lift.
Thanks for reminding me what a beautifully heartwarming moment in music this is ......
My pleasure!🍻
You play with 1 W / 8 ohms and it sounds great. Who need 200 W anyway? 🙂
You nailed it!👍🙂
@@jelabs Great! 😀
What a strange coincidence, last week I drove by the Capitol Theater in Port Chester, New York and I saw that ABC would be playing there in September along with Howard Jones and Haircut One Hundred. Nostalgia is all around me! I had a few Dynaco bits back in the day. 👂😊👂
👍😎
A+ sound...always
Besides the setup.. Sir, you have an excellent taste of music!
Glad you like it!
when i see NAD 3020 i am instantly in love
legendary amplifier with a legendary turntable, what a match!
And legendary Snell Type J speakers I believe.
Next thing is to get the room miced up so we can hear it too!
My main amp for 27 years was a NAD 701. Loved its sound to death.
Sweet, I love the 4 arm TT and I am putting together plans of building a long arm TT myself with a mixed bag of components. Thanks for the inspiration. BTW nice sounding system.
Have fun!
😅😅😅😅😅
Wow!! Awesome set-up. I am not even going to pretend I have a clue as to what's going on with your system but holy crapoly it sounds freaking amazing! I have a Sony turntable someone left in storage at my building a decade ago & it was already 30yrs old then! lol I feel like I am using a Gramophone to listen to vinyl compared to you. Still, I am glad to have my turntable & am spared the torture of having to listen to the whiny squelch of computer code being deciphered at 4000rpm! EDIT: on looking at your system a little closer I am just banging sticks together over here!!! LOL
It's really impressive how people can know how this sounds though a youtube video.
Wow! Sounds very clean.
Seeing the old 3020 makes me feel very nostalgic.
One of the reasons I blogged it. Cheers!🍻
One of the best turntables ever created
👍😊
Amazing, Amazing, Amazing.
Thank you! Cheers!
@@jelabs btw my respect for a guy who works to preserve history! great weekend.
@@pyntzer - Much appreciated, wishing you the same!
The legend continues. Aren’t these NAD 3020’s fantastic? I left mine out after a BBQ, had it repaired and it’s still one of my favourite amps. £79 when new!!!🎶🎵😎
Yes they are!
why do you some times have the 5 lb. weight on the speakers then remove it?
That was temporary, I was trying to declutter.
Ooohhh man, what a cool track 😎🎵🎶
Any time I use my Commodore 744A tube 4 speaker radio last 1967?? I stop here! Sounds wonderful! Great way to sneak in!!
Watching/listening to this video again as it’s so good and noticed a NAD amp on the left (3020?). I’m intrigued to see this great little amp in your man cave. I have one that I’m saving for one of my children to use when they (eventually!) move out. I’ve put together really good HiFi systems for all my kids, always from good quality gear that I’ve picked up very cheaply or free over the years. I’ve become very interested in horn speakers recently and I’m looking for something to match well with my new valve amp. Thanks for the inspiration 🎶🎵😎
I started the audio hobby in the early 80s with the original NAD 3020 - jelabsarch.blogspot.com/2014/02/prelude-80s.html - I'll feature this recent lucky find in the blog.
@@jelabs thanks for sharing that link. You clearly started tinkering immediately after getting your first system… and now you have a Mad Professor’s Laboratory full of amazing sound reproduction machines 🔊🎵🎶😎
