I spent like the first 10 hours dying in the first area before killing the first boss then i killed gascoign first try. The mechanics start to click eventually

The longer you charge, the further you'll go into the 28 range and if you only spam clicks, you'll do less damage. that's why shortblades have higher base dmg for faster spamming and the big weapons all start around 1 because you're supposed to charge them up
