This gorgeous male Australian Magpie has taken to imitating my voice saying "Come On" "Come On Boy" and other words in his song. He waffles on for hours in my backyard almost everyday. Not sure that he liked me filming him lol. I feed a small family of Magpie Birds, so they have become very friendly and entertaining. The voice sounds just like mine :) So gorgeous are these birds!!! He is really...
There's nothing as beautiful as an Australian magpies song, especially when one is bush walking.
I, absolutely LOVE ❤️ magpies and their melody. The birdsong of an Australian magpie is absolutely glorious. There's no other Australian birdsong to compare it to.
I absolutely LOVE the trill of Australian 🇦🇺 magpies.
Lovely - thank you.
My goodness!! Just having a great time!!
I really admire Magpies, they are urbanised quite a big degree in parts of Brisbane.. and they love to SING/COPY VOICES/COPY lots of other sounds for FREE!!! and then come to your house and SHARE , just great, so Aussie, (I'm a bit biased here) I have seen Magpies in the USA who do a great job too, even human speech. We're lucky to have other bird lovers who like to share also. Thanks everyone. Great stuff. Take Care. Carole
Plenty of budgeriegar noises but when were the human words.
he poses and gestures like he really is conscientiously trying to give a little concert and project earnestly. Luv Magpies even though they can be aggressive parents when raising babies.
I think I heard him say "how many views have we go so far"?
Fabulous video & you are so blessed to be able to experience this in the flesh as you do.......and thanks for sharing!
The Australian Magpies seem in general less shy. But then I´ve seen a tame European (pet-) Magpie on another channel ua-cam.com/video/3uW0CBlgq1s/v-deo.html , which can speak real great, too.
Beautiful Magpie video, they are mans best friend and highly intelligent beyond our wildest imagination. I too film and upload Magpie videos. I support your channel as too the world should take care and support this magical bird. They sing to spread love and happiness!
Australia sure has some uniquely beautiful birds.
Mine imitates me talking to him/her saying "You're beautiful". My husband worked it out. So at 4am every morning these words are part of what he sings to us. Can't complain.
gotta love a aussie magpie .but not eddie .
"will sing for food"
Got one at my house does similar-been trying to work out why they do it. It is not a social thing as they always seem to be alone, and usually around 3-6 pm. Seems it is either for their own entertainment or it's a territorial thing- i like to think the former.
You have a storm coming.
Magpies are wild which is quite interesting. Strong voice.
Too bad our Texas Mockingbirds can't sing like this.
can I ask where this was
Perth, Western Australia :)
+crissydolls Always thought I'd like it there. You're obviously close to the beach or some water anyway, eh?
I definitely heard a dog bark in all of that. They have the most beautiful chortle, I could sit and listen to it for hours. The king/queen of bird mimic though? The lyrebird...unbelievable! As for the Maggie, we are currently building our house on an old paddock, sold to us by the original owner. He used to feed the Maggies straight from his hand...and now? They expect the same from us. We are only too happy to indulge. The previous owner estimates that these Maggies have been living in the trees on our property for at least 12 years and so many different generations have lived and died there. You can see their nests in the trees. I love it when they bring the young ones out to learn how to hunt for food. Every several bites they feed their youngsters to show them how it works, it's the most amazing thing to watch. It just makes my heart glow, and it makes me want to protect them.
wow this bird really loves his work! - I can really hear him cooing like a nice female human then sometimes a dog barking! Aren't you lucky to have him singing for you! I have never heard a magpie make so many different sounds, and I'm wondering if the ones we have down south here in Melbourne are not so keen to imitate? Thanks for posting it.
+Donna M - My ant & uncle in Gippsland had 2 talkers. Not exactly Melbourne, but down south.
Magpies rule and definitely communicate complex information amongst themselves. My parents saw one recently with a damaged beak and feeling sorry for it fed it some mince. The following morning they woke up to discover it was back with another dozen maggies all making a racket with their warbling under their patio, no doubt wanting to see this alleged free mince for themselves! At my place I leave fresh water out for the birds especially during summer and there is one big male maggie thats my mate. He happily sits by the bird bath while i fill it up with the hose. He comes and talks to me about the days going on using mimicry of dogs, other birds and police sirens interspersed through their own highly complex warbling. He also a bit a joker, hides in the big tree sitting perfectly still hidden by foliage looking down at me pretending to be the cops or other birds until i can locate him.
staypuftUT Kookaburra perched on the clothes line. I threw it some meat scraps. In a few months, maybe less, we had a dozen of them lined up on the front fence. My mother did take a photo, but heaven knows what happened to it, it was about 50 years ago. Geez I'm getting old!
staypuftUT this video isn't a mag pie-these fuckers are screaming edgy loud they are real pest eating even dog/cat poo .....
+Codenwarra Cove We feed Kookas bits of bacon which they seem to interpret as some kind of lizard, because they proceed to wack it against the fence to 'kill it' then? Straight down the hatch. They actually take it straight from your hand, it's incredible.
+FoxtrS2 They are actually a protected species...hardly pests.
+LJY08 "tenderizing it" : )
Hearing a magpie carolling like this is one of the most peaceful, contented sounds. Semi tame maggies provide some great backyard entertainment - plenty of UA-cam clips to show this. Thanks for the vid.
Unfortunately where l live I'm unable to feed beautiful magpies because there loose sharp small pieces of blue metal on top of the bitumen driveway. My unit is down the back. Where l lived, previously I was able to feed the magpies. I really miss being able to feed those beautiful magpies. 😍 I miss their beautiful song all around me. They used to perch on the TV antenna 📡 two doors from my unit, fly to me at eye 👁 level then perch on the struts of the clothes line and sing for their breakfast. I didn't feel them exclusively, they still had to hunt for themselves. One couple always returned with their one chicken. ❤️ I named then Ma and Pa Kettle.
My mum works as a vet and every now and again someone brings in a baby magpie that they think has been abandoned. 9/10, they're still in the care of their mothers even if they've fallen from the nest, and people still take them, but none the less. Anyway, we've raised between 5-10 magpies and, the most recent ones that made a nearby tree their home, are used to us calling 'Magpie' when we want to feed them. Now they imitate it every time someone goes outside.
Haha thats awesome
+Dragime I did that a few years ago, except this little guy kept coming into our house and wouldn't leave our back yard, he just kept squawking at the door, and as soon as we opened the door he would come right inside and follow us around the house. What were we to do with this little guy? We threw a towel over him, put him in a box and called the RSCPA to collect him. What are you to do under the circumstances? He was taking up residence, so we thought we may as well find him an adoptive family to take care of him LOL! :-) They are so very vulnerable when they're young, they just go with who will take care of them. This guy seemed quite happy to move in and let us take care of him...but it's illegal to keep them.
Boring... please, write minutes and seconds where this chicken imitates human voice. after 3 minutes I fell asleep
It's kind of muffled, it does it several times though, like at 2:10...
Kyrill Kosaruk it doesn't seem to me a human voice, anyway thank you
I think it fantastic! What a very smart bird.
***** fuck off
***** she's been taught by yours
Butcherbirds are a lot smaller and not nearly as smart, magpies are corvids and therefore incredibly intelligent and very much capable of imitation.
Australian magpies are not corvids, they are in the same family as butcherbirds, Cracticidae. They are very corvid-like in general, but they aren't actually very closely related. I don't know if anyone's been doing any intelligence studies on Cracticids, it would be very cool to see how parallel their abilities are.
You're right, and since making that comment I came to know this :)
+The Laughing Dove Correct. European magpies are related to crows, but not ours.
that is awesome! I would love to see more videos - perhaps daily if u can catch them! they are becoming a highlight of my days (besides my family!!!), having them come sing for us is a godsend!
Yes definitely a Magpie :) Still waffles on in my backyard most days teaching the young ones to do the same :)
It's definitely a magpie. Butcher birds have a different stature and that is definitely magpie colouring. Magpies are very good at imitating too! :)
Actually looks like a butcher bird - very close markings to a magpie but they mimic the calls of other birds to attract prey.
hahahahahaha
I'm just waiting for that creepy stone head to pop his eyes open!
