My journey to Hartsel, CO and flyfishing in my wheelchair at HEART.
I hope you find some inspiration in my journey to flyfish on a trout stream. Flyfishing is one of my passions and after my accident that left me as a T5/T6 paraplegic, I never thought I would read the water and catch trout again. Join me as I take you through my long journey to get to this wonderful wheelchair accessible trout stream and actually catch a brown trout with my family. Impossible is slowly becoming a word I don't use much as I engage life and seek adventure wherever I can find it.

I am so glad you go camping. My brother has MS, in a wheelchair and stopped going... maybe because he was overwhelmed. It made me so sad because it's his favorite thing to do. He would not go even with my husband and I helping. Be well and happy camping. Thanks for the video! Addition: that food looked amazing!

I'm sorry to hear about your brother. It is a bit overwhelming to have obstacle after obstacle to make it through a camping trip. I just take my time. It took me over 2 hours to set up my campsite (a 20 minute job for normal camper) including the white awning which I did by myself. Focusing and executing takes my mind off my aches and pains and when I relax and eat some great food as I watch a sunrise/sunset with deer, squirrels, birds and running creeks, it makes it all worthwhile. I have camped by myself for about 2 weeks each of the past 2 summers. It reminds me that I am very capable and that is a drug that lasts and keeps me chasing adventure.

  • @freeedr

Very nice. That hoodoo you showed during the Lighthouse part was not in fact the Lighthouse. That’s a smaller hoodoo much closer to the road. The actual lighthouse is much bigger and you can walk right up to it. You can also climb up on top of the peak behind it pretty easily, pretty much just a walk up. The lighthouse trail is about 6 miles round trip though and people underestimate their water needs in the canyon summer.

Nice video, you have some of the best shots of the canyon I've seen in one of these visitor vlogs. Did you ever take a ride on the Sad Monkey Railroad? I grew up and still live 50 mi SW so our family would pack a picnic and spend an afternoon there at least once per summer... usually after a nice rain. The water crossings and those big cottonwoods were the main attraction for me. I was a tree climber. I'd rather be there than at any amusement park. Thanks for the walk down memory lane. I haven't made it over there since 2011. I'm overdue.

@WildBillAdventures In 2011 I took a friend from Chicago out to the park. When he saw the canyon he was inspired to take 360° photos to have made into background wallpaper for his photo studio. It may have proved to be impossible since he didn't mention it again. After PDC I chauffeured him out to Red River for his first look at the Rockies. It's fun seeing people react to what we take for granted.
