Best documentation of the history of an Australian attraction on UA-cam. I used to live only a few minutes from the park and naturally always had annual passes. Having moved from the area, I had no idea so much of the park had been stripped. The greatest thing Dreamworld did originally when it opened was have the Dreamworld show bag at the Ekka which contained a ‘free’ entry ticket. It was the only way us poor folk could afford to go.

I went to Blackpool Pleasure Beach back in 2017 when I was 13, before Icon opened, but I agree with a lot of the points raised; there aren't too many great coasters, I rode their historic Wild Mouse when I went as it was the year before it was removed. I personally think Infusion should be removed and replaced with a ride like an RMC raptor, even if it's just an off the shelf raptor (like a clone of Stunt Pilot)

Man I love the moto coaster, it's probably one of my favourites haha. We went on the rapids ride with our whole family not long before that accident. It was malfunctioning when we were on it. I could have never ever imagined the outcome it would cause 😢 We were there last Sept 23. The new taipan roller coaster is pretty fun. My kids did it 3x in the row because the line was so short before closing haha. I felt like the middle area was very bare? ABC area was very empty too which was a shame because being there in 2016 the wiggles ride and everything just seemed more appealing to little kids. I do hope they revive that area again.

28:00 they remained closed after a MASSIVE public outcry and police telling them it was still an active crime scene when they tried to reopen just 2 days after the incident. They ended up opening 6 weeks after. Take it from a local who worked for VRTP (main competitors) at the time, VRTP made a LOT of money from this. On the Gold Coast the themeparks host year 12 graduation parties, work Christmas functions and locals flock to them every weekend due to "yearly locals passes". Many of the bookings for Dreamworld for private events quickly got rebooked to Movie World, Sea World and Wet N Wild. Even the Australian Outback Spectacular and Paradise Country (dinner show and farm experience owned by VRTP) absorbed some. Movie World was taking double bookings for "private events" after park closing (one beginning as the park closed and then a second one later in the evening) to try and cater because these kinds of bookings would have hundreds of guests, and being October, not many other locations could cater last minute or those who might were already booked. We as employees were instructed to repeat approved comments if guests asked us about our thoughts on the incident or about our safety standards. Movie World got into a bit of local hot water when their Fright Night ads (Halloween night time events) had a slogan similar to "will you survive the night" being seen in poor taste. It was changed very quickly (within 1 or 2 days of the incident)

27:00 a sad fact I remember from the local paper about this (I grew up on the GC and at the time worked at wet n wild up the road) was that the husband of one of the deceased riders was up above on the viewing area with a baby in a stroller. They saw what happened and jumped the railing and went down to try to help desperately. While they were down there, someone stole their phone and wallet from the pram. I think it was later recinded in the news but it stuck with me.

I beg to differ about Adelaide. Adelaide could offer something the east coast simply cannot, it is able to offer something people come to Australia for, that is easy access to the outlook people from overseas want to experience. You can travel 4hrs from Adelaide and be in the flinders ranges seeing the wild life, being in the red dirt, experiencing the vast open lands. I think Disney could setup something rather magical in SA offering experiences the others couldn’t and make Disney Down Under (they can pay me royalties for that!) more that just the theme park. I would picture it being built north of Adelaide and that would also open up the wine region of the Barossa and Clare Valley’s which they could easily have day tours to meaning they not only have the park generating income they can have income from tours. I am not saying the others couldn’t but SA is a forgotten place which can offer a lot, it is also very central so it can capture the east and west coast travellers, it isn’t much further for international travellers. But Adelaide is Adelaide and it will get overlooked/discounted as it isn’t Sydney or Melbourne.

The Cyclone was the single biggest disappointment in the entire parks history imo. We waited about 2 hours in basically a shed on a hot summers day for a ride that just didn't live up to the hype.

Was almost a zombie/Tiki themed theme park in Perth but due to objections to residents it did not get up. The people spent $1million on the bar fitout to the LUWOW in Fitzroy though.

Not a big enough country to support it. In the South East of Australia there are six months of the year when it is really too cold to be outside especially in winter. Maybe the Gumbuya World owners are expecting global warming to make a water park in Victoria actually viable for a longer period of the year. Queensland seems to be the main place with the theme parks as it already has the tourists. We do have "big things" but they are mainly just roadside attractions and don't really translate to a theme park.

Growing up going to Dreamworld in the 90’s and early 2000’s was peak! Such fun times and the best vibe. After the horror 2016 rapids accident, the park was never the same again and they decomissioned so many iconic rides. Haven’t been in years. I was so sad when they removed the wipeout 😢 best ride ever! 🦈

Outer Western Melbourne. Avalon area. Between Melbourne and Geelong. The airport there needs expanding. It already hosts the bi Anual Airshow. It looks to be a major groth corridor. Located between 2 big cities , it could be a great place for something big on a theme park level.

I rode this about 2-3 weeks before closure and it was real fun. It is very janky but i think that just adds to the expirience of such a small, janky coaster having insane airtime. My favorite part was the drop in the back row after the turn around the trees. Just for the memory i straight up bought one of the top wheels. The park also was, while small, very nice with theming and charm of everything. Goodbye wild train, we will miss you.

I’m surprised you haven’t mentioned the potential of Aussie world at the Sunshine Coast. It’s small at the moment but has some larger rides with room to explore. Its location would be good as it’s also along the highway like the Gold Coast attractions. I remember going on my first rollercoaster there; the Wild Mouse roller coaster, sadly no longer there.. I think Queensland also fills the need for ride entertainment with the regular fairs we have. They are primarily smaller rides and no roller coasters but it does fill that missing space for parks.
