Starshadow Plays is my new series featuring my journey to learn to play various games that I find interesting. I started off by learning to play Frostpunk, but I have since expanded to two long series playing the indie game Star Traders: Frontiers and have launched many other playthroughs including a series focused on a variant of a challenge from Football Manager 21. I have a variety of gaming interests so you never know what else you'll find me playing!
Why do this? I ask myself this exact question some times, but the truth is that gaming has become my biggest hobby and I wanted to share my adventures with my friends. I also figure that doing this will allow me to build up some other skills that I don't have. So not only am I learning how to play games, I'm also learning how to make better videos, use social media, and just practice speaking and being entertaining!
Thank you for joining me on this journey, and I hope that it is as enjoyable for you as it is for me!

After our first playthrough in early access had to come to a premature end, we're back once again to tackle Cyber Knights: Flashpoint! In this new run, we're going to take some of what we learned from the last one and try to incorporate it here. Will we be successful in game or out of game? No idea!
It's time for the Sibling Breakout! Synch wants us to save her sister from eternal servitude to a corp, and since we don't like corps but do like Synch, we're in for the save! After breaking into the prison in last episode, we're now going to break out Synch's sister, and get ourselves a new hacker!

Exploring Caves of Qud - An Introduction
Переглядів 53319 годин тому
Welcome to Caves of Qud! It's an old school style of roguelike RPG with deeply simulated systems, much like Dwarf Fortress, set in a world combining Sci-Fi with fantasy elements. Also, much like Dwarf Fortress, the graphics are tile-based and simple, so this is best viewed on a bigger screen! In this initial episode, I'm going to introduce you to some of the features of the game and then start ...

Cyber Valkyria Delta - Episode 2: In The (Safe)House
38:00 The terror that comes with having to make a vocie for a character on the spot that will stick with you for months. 41:22 This is what we in the business call, Hubris. Thanks for the video.
Admittedly, the voice thing is really just a me thing and not for most everyone else! And I've promptly forgotten it anyway! Hubris? Nah, couldn't be me! :)
Congratulations! Those headhunters will have to be zero ed next mission.
Yeah, I agree. I just couldn't believe that they would show up at the exact worst time in that mission! It was my first ever encounter with headhunters too.
A mission where the hacking is mid mission rather than the goal. Means you have to suffer the consequences for getting alerted afterwards. Thanks for the video
I think it's very interesting gameplay to have a certain objective like opening a door midmission. It was kind of crazy that it took so many turns, but I think it's one of those things that takes experience. I wonder if hacking difficulty may go up too fast since we haven't done very much so far and it's always bumped up at least one difficulty level. It'll be interesting to see the progression as we get further in (since we're still pretty early game right now).
Thanks for the video and lore dump.
I feel like I should do more of it. It's helpful for me too! Thanks for watching!
Nice showcase of the insane tasks contacts can send you on when calling in an obligation. Thanks for the video
The mission itself wasn't insane, just the timeframe to do it! Having to literally drop everything to do the mission is pretty crazy, but for the sake of a good relationship...
File sets definitely need to be buffed. Maybe have it give a flat increase in trust and power, at least more than selling them individually? Make it a choice between more money or a better contact. Considering the effort you have to go through to collect them, it should at least nab the contact a promotion or a commendation. Thanks for the video.
File sets have been improved since I did this video! I actually sell a set in another video coming up and the value is much, much better. I think it was just a mistake of not balancing early on. It's early access, it happens!
That is the most underwhelming side objective and reward I have seen in this game. Your better off ignoring it entirely since a single lockbox could hold more money than the objective and you'd have to abandon it to meet the Sec 2 limit.
Since it was a proc-gen mission, it's not surprising that the side objective wasn't great. They're still working on those. But yeah, that one wasn't great. Luckily, the adjustments I made helped make it achievable.
Happy November Star. Thanks for the video.
Thanks! Can't believe the year is almost over!
Good video the factions part is appreciated
Thanks for watching!
Sitting in a single spot for multiple turns to run a hack while all the grunts are running about can get really tense at times. At least you have a lot of time to burn off all that heat. Thanks for the video.
I agree, this mission type is great for the bringing some tension and pressure to our hacking. I'm just glad that the time pressures should be more relaxed in the future!
Interesting how reprisal scales with the Q-Sec level. Guess the Corp doesn’t want to mind fry their employees for missing their password three times. Thanks for the video.
You know, I kind of wonder about that since the setting is cyberpunk. I'd guess there are a lot of employees that the corp would not care if they fried (fired?), but I also think that they may have gone beyond passwords at this point!
Knight Horizon were a weak faction the only real threat in the og Cyber Knights games was thier drones. I used mainly gun slingers and Agents with fire power to deal with them. Their soldiers most likely dissolved into blue ox gang
Ooh, an OG player! I always appreciate hearing about more lore and history of the game world, so thanks for chiming in!
Valkyra just keeps getting sucked into non-paying jobs by its crew. Thanks for the video.
Well, this time, we do get a payment: a new recruit, and a hacker at that. That's actually a lot of value in my eyes! Still need to make actual cash money though. We got some stuff coming that will do that, at least.
That was the Hooteniest Nanny I have ever seen. Guess it was too much to hope for there to *not* to be an entire squad on that bridge. Forgot how limited the "preview" of the mission can be. Thanks for the video.
I understand there being some "fog-of-war" to keep things interesting, and that's really what it is since we only have information on enemies in a certain radius around the characters. But I do wish we had more information available at the start, even if it's not very detailed information. I'd expect that we'd have some reconnaissance done before we head into a heist, so even if it's not detailed or even inaccurate (due to the dynamic nature of patrolling), we can make some kind of determination as to planning. It's also a balancing issue, so have to keep that in mind too. It was definitely a Hootenanny though! Thanks for watching!
Think you got enough lucre saved up for the cyberdoc upgrade with some change left over. Liquidating all the files will probably lose you some money, so holding off might be prudent, but the siren call of dumping stock for the doc remains. Thanks for the video.
I think it's probably true that I could afford to get the upgrade if I sold off everything to get to 400k, and it might've been something I thought about more if we were on the "main run" that will start after full release (and also if I knew the benefits of getting the upgrade, which I've never gotten). With changes coming pretty frequently, I think it pays to hold off on doing anything like that in case a change makes it more profitable. Also, I want to have things ready in case they are used in new systems or in new ways. I'm playing slowly enough that it's a pain to get new resources to try things out with, especially when there's usually a couple of updates between episodes.
This mission really emphasizes rotating the camera. There are so many tight corners that could be hiding a lootbox. Also screw you Mute for sending us into this deathtrap. You're lucky Rook was here to save our behinds. Thanks for the video.
Yes, being able to see everything is very important. In fact, I could do better at that because I don't really utilize the zoom aspect, which could help further. And now you know why I like to take a Soldier on stealth missions, just in case!
Hi. I watch your videos a lot on Cyber Knight. I have two questions to ask you: 1- How do you unlock the implants? 2- How do you progress in the story because all the missions are similar?
Thanks for watching! You start with some implants available that you can slot in when you have the time and money. Others become available as your contact list grows and you meet people that can supply them. I currently do not have a ton of money, so I haven't really explored that part yet. For the story, that is still a work in progress in the Early Access period. There isn't a ton of "main story" content right now, but there is more planned to come before full release. You progress by taking the missions that come up, although they're not really labeled as such. I believe there is also a mission or two that takes place via legwork currently. The Trese Brothers are also working on increasing the variety of the proc-gen missions available, so there is less repetition. In the past few weeks, they've really increased that, although we'll not run into that here for a little while yet (since the videos are a few weeks behind current release). There's always going to be some repetition though, since the proc-gen missions will be limited to the combinations of objectives and maps that are available to the AI story generator.
Star: “I am going to try for a stealthy approach this mission.” Game: “It’s funny you think have a choice in the matter.” Thanks for the video.
Now you know why I like to take at least one soldier when I try to do a mission stealthily! It just loves to make me start shooting. And if you thought this was great, just wait for the next episode!
@@streamsbystar To quote the "Jesus Cop" incident from a decade old Heist Game playlist on youtube: "Of Course I get ******* spotted if he's ******* SENT FROM GOD!"
@@Yacovo I feel so much solidarity right now! Of course someone has to ruin your day in a game in this genre, no matter how old it is!
The stat boost seems like a good compromise from going for the true long term goal of gaining 60+ loyalty. Thanks for the video.
I think others might have different priorities, so the other boosts might be more attractive to them. I'm looking long term, especially at this early point. Then again, once we get to the late game, the temp bonuses might look a bit better!
Do the lore next video
Already recorded and I don't think I did any of the lore in it, unfortunately. I'll have to remember to do that in a future one!
@@streamsbystar thanks planning to get steam and buy the game financially unable at the moment these videos let me know what I'm in for
@@asavelakuse6865 Glad you're interested and that these videos are helping you get an idea of what you can expect! If you're looking for more background and lore information, the game has a wiki that will have more information (I forget the exact web address).
@@streamsbystar I'll find it
On the brink for a lot of boosts. Thanks for the video.
Yes, the boosts are fun! Definitely some coming soon!
are you going to do one more video with new v1.8.63 ?
The videos are right now a couple of weeks behind, but I am keeping up with patches still. I'll be filming another this week, which you'll likely see late-September at this rate. Maybe sooner if I get some videos out quicker. Basically, I work to have a backlog in case life intervenes! Right now, it's pretty big but I do know September is busy, so I'll probably start blowing through it soon. But yes, I'm planning on keeping this one going until full release (unless something breaks my save, of course).
There is always something that trips up your carefully made plans. Thanks for the video.
Not sure that I'd call any of plans "carefully made", but thanks all the same! :D
Man, who knew sewers were so claustrophobic? There is almost nowhere to maneuver. Thanks for the video.
Old city sewers are spacious compared to modern (20th century) sewers though! It's cool how the maps so far have felt different from each other with their layouts. That's good map design. And there are more to come too!
Bright Hootenanny is the best mission name. Thanks for the video.
I was just as impressed with it as you are! Hootenanny itself is just such a ridiculous word that doesn't get used enough, so to see it in this game is hilariously awesome.
Why do I get the feeling the bioscanner's job could have been done with a regular weight sensor? Thanks for the video.
Ha ha, but that's not very sci-fi, is it? But I like that it gives us another type of movement problem to solve since it couldn't be hacked as a level 2. And it's interesting trying to get a hacker to the other terminal while the Knight moves through if you're trying to be quiet. Thanks for watching!
The stair guard caused quite the scare. Thanks for the video.
Just when I think I can predict what's going on, something like that occurs! This game certainly loves to keep me on my toes.
Hacker seems like one of the more desired classes for events, legwork, and Ops. Managing them seems like a priority. Thanks for the video.
Yes, I think that Hackers have strong importance in this game, as you would expect with the genre. There's even a heist type that features only a single Hacker! And there are a few other mission types that feature Hackers as well. However, we are guaranteed a new Hacker with a mission that comes up at some point (a mission I got very quickly last run). Plus, now we should able to recruit a new one via the Safehouse once we have an Underground Hub up and running. And lastly, there's always the possibility of multiclassing into Hacker! I've heard of people crossing their Cyber Knight into the class, which is an interesting idea and probably a nice way to have a Hacker in combat areas.
That strange feeling when no one forces you to go loud by spotting you with wall hacks during a stealth mission. Thanks for the video.
Yeah, I was happy that it worked as expected because there are certainly times in other games where it doesn't... Probably should make the cone stop when it hits a wall though, or do the hatching style cone, just to not be confusing. I'm glad you understand the trials and tribulations of a (sometimes) stealth gamer!
Those legwork rolls can really affect what missions you can take. Thanks for the video.
There's definitely a time management aspect to the game that has started to show itself as more content has been added during the early access time. I think it's also a bit more prevalent in the middle and late game too (which I've never quite gotten to). For someone who likes to do as much as possible, like me, it can be a bit frustrating. This is why I have plans to run a crew a bit on the bigger side, just so I can handle the time pressures. We'll see how that goes once I start recruiting, but I'm hopeful that I'll be able to manage time better then.
Pretty clean run for a first non-tutorial mission. Thanks for the video.
I've done this mission a few times now, so I have a good idea of what to expect. I did do it in a bit of a different way with the split group, so that part was new to me. Still, I do agree with you that it was a very clean run, which is not something I'm known for! Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching!
Ah the joys of enemy sight lines in a stealth tactics game. Thanks for the video.
Haha, yeah, it can be tough sometimes! And I was already on edge because I screwed up the first recording and had to start over... But thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video

New campaign, super exciting! Looking forward to seeing more.
Thanks! I'm looking forward to engaging with some of the new systems that have been added since the last run! And all of the stuff still to come too!
Yikes Star! Hope you're feeling better. You sounded alright at least. Great to see you streaming this still!
Yeah, was definitely sounding better by this time! And feeling even better now, so I should be getting the new run started very soon!
@@streamsbystar be on a look out for the randomly encountered "Brig" (or maybe "BrigBriz"?) character. I hear he's in there. :)
@@brigbrizz I'll keep an eye out! Oh, and it's not my fault if he dies... 😂

Thanks for watching!
Sorry about the bug Rob! We've fixed it for the next update, your mercs will re-appear within the roster then. It's a rare bug in order of operations from extraction, leaving the merc in "Extracted" state instead of "ready and active." Thank you for your F10s! Congrats on 75+ subscribers! 🎉
Thanks for looking at it! Glad it got fixed for other people! But it was time to start a new playthrough anyway because I really want to try out out the Scourge class and I wasn't sure that I'd multiclass into it. And with basebuilding around the corner... should be ready to go for a long one! Also, saving appearances is going to help here too! Thanks again! And thank you for all the hard work on this game! Looking forward to more!
I hope they're planning on doing another Star Traders but with the enhanced graphics designs they implemented in Flashpoint.
I don't think they'll be returning to the Star Traders series for a while yet. They're a small team, so only work on developing one game at a time (plus support for others). Their focus right now is on this game, and I can't imagine the Trese Brothers even starting to look toward their next game until this one is past full release. But when they do get to the next Star Traders, you know it'll be quite the leap forward from the current one! And it'll have a lot to live up to since Star Traders: Frontiers has been great!
@@streamsbystar There is a logical progression in the games Trese Brothers develop, they all explore different aspects of micromanaging a small group into a wild complex world. It feels as if they are doing this to bring it together in an ultimate project. Do you think Cyber Knights is that project?
@@Asporez Personally, I don't think there is an ultimate project in mind, but that's just my opinion. I think they like to focus on a particular aspect, like you point out, and iterate on it in fun ways. They are a small team; I don't think they have the resources to make a big "ultimate" project type thing either, but in the future, who knows? But yeah, I don't think it's something to expect soon, if ever.
Hey, Streams. Just happened to stumble across your channel. It's always nice to see more UA-cam content creators covering indie titles, but from the perspective of a voiceover artist and audiophile, I did notice one minor but nagging issue you may or may not want to remedy moving forward. Your microphone is picking up a fair bit of extraneous sound, particularly your breathing and mouth sounds, which are amplified by the nature of the device to be quite noticable, and may be uncomfortably loud for individuals with misphonia. I don't know what your system architecture is, but having an Nvidia graphics card I use Nvidia Broadcast for its adaptive noise cancelling algorithm. You'll find it works quite well with minimum quality loss. Should clear that right up if you use it or an equivalent.
I think a lot of this comes from having adjusted the noise gate and mic position because I was finding that certain sounds wouldn't get picked up, and it's too sensitive now. Always lots to work on for someone who is naturally not a good speaker and easily falls back into bad habits that I try to fix with the tech instead... I'll keep trying to find settings that will sound better in the future. Thanks for the note!
Great to see people covering this game! Shame no one else does, is an awesome game and gets better pretty much daily, is impressive!
Yes, it really is impressive just how much is being added! And to think, they're not even close to done with adding things before full release. Plus, if you know about previous Trese Brothers games, they support the game for a long time after release, so the game in a couple of years will be even better than it is at release.
Duuuude! So glad you’re covering this game. Not sure why I’m only now just seeing the recommendations on my feed. I have a bunch to catch up on!
Good to see you, man! Definitely digging this game and all the new stuff being added. Still trying to figure out how best I want to tell stories although there is some new stuff that will help. I just need to work on my part! But yeah, being small and not really doing any type of advertising/networking/social media type things makes it harder to get seen. Glad you found it though!
Took a look at that collapsed tower your shots went through and re-did the box colliders for it, should be fixed now. 👍
Awesome! This video is from a few months ago, so wasn't sure if it was still an issue or not. I really should've did an F10 for it, but sometimes I forget while I'm playing!
Thanks for the video.
Thank you for watching! Hope you enjoyed it.
Thanks for the video.
Thank you for watching and commenting!
This game is extremely hard if you go into it thinking you gotta kill everyone and steal everything. It's not gonna work. You gotta pick a spot, rob them blind, and LEAVE. You cannot fight them, ever. Steal and leave.
Yeah, the original plan was not to kill everyone. It was supposed to be a stealthy mission, but once we got spotted, we had to stop them from following us. Plus I guess the best way to not be seen is to eliminate the witnesses... Also, in this case, the objective was to steal all we could in this mission, so we did exactly that!
Congrats on completing your first job! Looking forward to seeing how Cyber Valkyria Alpha shapes up as a team. 😎😎😎😎😎
Thank you for the support! I'm looking forward to it as well. And seeing how things evolve with all the new content you'll be adding!
That's a good-looking squad!
Thanks! I saw some improvements to the appearance screens have been done too, but the episodes will be a little behind the patches as I build a buffer! Happy to see all the options we have for making a squad appear as we want, and excited to see what gets added here. Also excited to see what you have in store as you build toward full release!
I played this a bit in 2021 and I've recently come back for my second playthrough. It's a great game, but I find it a bit repetitive after a while as the missions and encounters end up being mostly more of the same. I don't know if I'd have the patience to get to 20m+ credits! Kudos to you for that.
I hear you on that! For me, I find it to be relaxing, especially at this point where there's little to be done except whatever hijinks I want to get up to, which in this case was building a new ship with new 9000 mass base. Of course, for purposes of getting up to 20 million in the bank, it's helpful when the game starts dropping 1+ million credit reward missions!
@@streamsbystar I haven't watched your whole series, but how have you found the second more advanced aliens? In my first play through I was encountering them a lot and losing most ground or space battles with them which was putting me off continuing.
@@Cuahchic They're definitely tough. I don't fare well against high level Jyeeta (the second set of Xeno); they're basically the only things able to wipe my crew so I don't fight them. I fought against them in the storyline where they appear in my first playthrough, but I didn't fight them much in this one since I learned my lesson (and I wasn't really set up to fight much at that point). I think for fighting these xeno, you have to have a crew that 's prepared to battle, so having some crew that are specialized would be helpful. And they love to mess with your battle positions, so being able to adjust or hold your positions is important too so you don't waste initiative getting your swordsperson from the third row (for instance)! I'm sure the community has better tips than I do though. There are people who are very, very good at battling, and they play on much harder difficulties than I do!
@@streamsbystar Thanks for the reply! Yeah I found the same and to be honest I kept encountering them so it started to annoy me how powerful they were and it put me off continuing my campaign. Overall I find the ground combat not too bad, but the ship combat really annoys me - I always struggle unless I go straight for boarding which is generally my strategy.
@@Cuahchic Totally agree with you on boarding! I feel that since I have a good fighting squad, I'm only hurting myself if I'm not utilizing them everywhere I can! That's also a reason I like to have a shuttle craft as well. One advantage of having a big ship and big crew is that you can load up with Skip Off the Void talents so you don't have to fight if you don't want to. Just have to keep an eye on your fuel levels.
