I live in Garia. I must say that our part of town has become somewhat different. Its become a booming part of town and there is no brick factory anymore! It is actually very easy to reach via Metro and Train or any public transport. You either get off at Sahid Khudiram or Kavi Subhas Station and its a 5 min auto rickshaw ride after that. I also want to add, lots of female tourists come to India and have good experiences and some have bad experiences. Its just like every other country in this world. One has to be smart and avoid uncomfortable situations. Local trains are for locals. This race is stupid enough to tell bunch of white people to board a local during peak busy hours. I don't know how one can paint a picture for tourists based on this stupid race.

I hate US politic, the racism and the stupidity and ignorance of millions of people that will never go away as I myself had been racially discriminated and wrongfully imprisoned from that red neck racist state of Texas. I am thinking similarly to get the hell out of the US and VN is a consideration. After all it was my country that i was born in so language, culture and foods are not new to me as yours. I am not there yet with my decision but it is on the table for me to think about. My only reservation about VN is deep deep down it still is a communist country. The very reason I escaped decades ago.
