2024 IDAHO MULE DEER | DOUBLED DOWN!! | OTC
2024 IDAHO MULE DEER | DOUBLED DOWN | OTC
In this film Max and I head into the high country to try and harvest a mature mule deer. With only scouting this area one time, we didn’t really know what to expect. With us both having a tag in our pocket, we both were hoping to come out heavy. We hope you enjoy the video, thanks for watching!!

    Hope you know in Idaho the tags have to be attached to the proof of sex (genitalia) and not the antlers. Attaching to the antlers will get you a citation unless the carcass is whole or the head and antlers are attached to the hind quarters with the proof of sex still attached. Fish and game could use this video as proof of violation.

    I liked getting any buck and ate the meat. Then I wanted bigger as a challenge as few people really spend more hunting than the cost of store beef. I finally stopped unless they were “big” 4 points or better. To see the outdoors and the challenge especially with others is rewarding.

    I'm very envious of that big, 5-pt. single; finding a whopper 5-pt is on my "to do" list. I once found a set in southwest Colorado that was a spitting image twin to the big set you said scored 363''. The antler buyer who bought my pile when I moved from Colorado estimated that set (which was still my biggest set) scored in the low 360s. Those antler buyers can tell at a glance almost exactly what an antler scores. BTW, it took me all summer to match those antlers. I was on my 6th trip, and going to throw in the towel when I finally found it.

    • @mtn_packers
      @mtn_packers 9 місяців тому

      Oh ya big 5s are something else. After seeing that thing all the rest of us are way jealous and want our own!! That’s crazy on that set though. how far away did the other side end up being?

    • @UnderSprayedWhiteSkies
      @UnderSprayedWhiteSkies 8 місяців тому

      @@mtn_packersThe other side was a fair distance, 1/3 - 1/2 mile (thereabouts). The thing that prevented me (I think) from finding it earlier was that it fell in a clump of brush that completely obscured it from the direction I had been approaching it (west-to-east). On my last attempt I specifically went in east-to-west. When I came upon it, I thought, "no wonder why I couldn't see it before". I'm pretty sure I passed by it close enough to have seen it if it weren't so well hidden. It's almost that time to go out again, good luck.
