Thanks for watching! If you've enjoyed, please consider watching my full length video where I talk in slightly over long detail about the theory of this tune: ua-cam.com/video/USIBAViheYs/v-deo.htmlsi=tVdImSn7qMkGmuEw
Excellent lesson :)
Thank you very much! 🙂
The is amazing wth👏👏👏👏
Cheers!
nice and helpful. Do you happen to have any useful tips on learning triads? I know what they are and how to find them, but I struggle to find a logical and practical way of learning them. I started with Cmaj, horizontally, vertically and diagonally then repeated with F and G. I also tried to mix them (C, G then C,F but then F and G were too close and way less fun :D ) Now I am on Amin with the same process. Horizontal, vertical and now in the third week I started doing diagonal with the idea to mix up with others in a progression. However, I have a constant fear I am missing something and this actually isn't the most clever way of doing it. How did you learn them, do you have any tips???
Thanks for your comment! To be honest, I feel the best way of learning anything like this is whatever way makes sense to you in the moment, and you can always expand your understanding the more you use it, so I wouldn't worry that you're going about it wrong. Having said that, the way that works for me is knowing what notes are in any given chord. That way, I can just find the nearest note that's in the chord and then build the shape from there. If there is a "best" way I think it's just through jamming with them; write your own little melodies and riffs etc, and before long you can just do it without thinking about it. Hope that helps!
@@AlexHedleyMusic thanks mate, i guess i am already doing it then. clanky, but will get better. cheers!
Absolutely, just keep at it 🙂
Great video! I was done a huge disservice many years ago when a teacher said the aged old line "The A Dorian is the second mode of the G Major Scale" - my brain is a simple one I admit and I was lost and OCD fixated at how it had no sound reference to G. Had my teacher said for instance 'the A Doiron is a scale that you would typically use when playing something in something like Oye Como Va as it is a minor sound chord followed by a major sounding chord' my brain would have clicked and off to the improv races I would have gone.
Thank you very much! Yeah I think that's a really good point. The "parent" major scale is emphasised far too much when people teach this stuff.
@@AlexHedleyMusic I subscribed to your channel - stick with it - you have a very engaging voice and personality - well suited for this medium!
That's really kind of you to say, thanks again. I certainly will stick with it. 🙂
New sub sir! Great video for those who don’t know this, I just look at modes as moods, Dorian is everywhere, all the lads like Dorian 😂
Thank you very much! I agree, that Dorian certainly gets around.
terrible riff
Thanks for watching! I hope there are enough ideas here to inspire you to write a better one. :)
@@AlexHedleyMusic I was expecting a much more modal riff, which would really make use of the major sixth and underline the Dorian character. Here it sounds like conventional blues pentatonic
@radiozelaza That's fair enough. My aim here was to give an idea of how to incorporate the major 6th into a typical blues type riff, which is a very common use of the Dorian mode. But of course, there's any number of other ways to do it. (Remember to subscribe and you may well see me do something else with it soon 😉)
Your first example really exemplifies clearly the Dorian sound character in its use in Rock music. Very clear and well paced delivery. Thanks for the vid!
Thank you, I really appreciate that!
Just randomly came up when scrolling shorts, but good work man, love just randomly finding videos like this, people doing stuff I’d love to learn but have zero time. Keep it up man, really cool 👍🏻
Thank you so much, it really means a lot to get a comment like that. Hope you get a chance to do some more playing yourself!
@@AlexHedleyMusic any playing at all would be a blessing haha Literally watches a few videos a couple of years ago learning some basic chords and then never found the time again 😂 Good work again though man, will subscribe to support 👍🏻

Great vocal control. Superb, thank you. ✌️❤️
Thank you for listening and the comment! 👌🤛
@@AlexHedleyMusic my pleasure, to both hear your version and to leave a comment. ✌️❤️
Do you know what you hardly ever see anymore?? The open "b" chord. It's the most awkward "open" chord to play. For me, 50x more awkward than that "f" bar. (And what i mean by "open" b is 1st string, 2nd fret; then 2nd, 3rd and 4th strings, 4th fret. Mute 5th, 6th strings.) You could reach up there to that 5th string, 2nd fret, to get the "b" bass note, but then it just turns into an open a-shape "b" bar chord. Some acoustic-only musicians i know will pull out that open b every now and again, but itll be only certain songs. You dont see it used much anymore. I doubt younger guitarists are even taught open b. This is a cool video, bro. Im from the U S. Im a guitarist, classically trained. I always wanted to be a music teacher, but it just never happened. Went to school, learned theory, the classical method/jazz, but this and that kinda derailed that endeavor lol. Great video, brother.
Thank you very much for the comments! That's really interesting that you think of that as an open B chord - I just instinctively think of that as a version of the A shape. You're right though, it's kind of its own thing and I think it does show up in classical pieces far more than in rock stuff. Hope you get a chance to give some lessons soon 🙂🤛
Very good bro keep it up also love the les paul
Thank you! Yeah I love that guitar 😁
