March 24, 1992 - Penguins at Red Wings - 2nd Period - Mario Lemieux (40) (Tocchet, Stevens), 4:50
Mario Lemieux takes Rick Tocchet's pass just inside the Detroit defensive blueline and tries to thread a pass back to Tocchet driving the net, but Lemieux's pass goes off the stick of Red Wings defenseman Vladimir Konstantinov and over goaltender Tim Cheveldae into the net.
The goal was Lemieux's 40th of the 1991-92 season and 404th regular season goal in the National Hockey League.

Too funny the guy wasnt fast enough to🛑Lemieux so he throws his hockey 🏒 stick.
Absolutely the best player of all time .
Lemieux's health remains the biggest what if in hockey history
Stevens: 24:46, 31:41, 36:44, 2:05:28
Отлично Марио
Goalies would kick their pads to the side to prevent him from going 5-hole when he would come in a straight line. Lemieux read that and went top shelf, only like he can do.
Thorne put some oomph into this one. He always brought the enthusiasm
I dont care what anyone says, i think Mario Lemeieux is the best hockey player GOD🙌created. Mario Lemeieux with his hockey 🏒stick is like Thor with his ⚒️ hammer🥰
As a Flyers fan it's so weird to see the clinching goal scored by Rick Tocchet for the Penguins with Tim Kerr having taken the faceoff for the Rangers.
Liba couldnt catch up to Lemieux so he cheated by hooking Lemieux. Lemieux with his hockey 🏒 is like Thor with his ⚒️ hammer!
Thanks for posting these! Do you have any 91-92 regular season games with the Pittsburgh broadcasts?
what was so scary was his gracefulness. It looked like he wasn't even trying.
Les Magnifique #66. The best ever.
It went in. You can clearly see a strip of white ice between the puck and the goal line.
Never had a chance
As a Flyers fan, the clip of Dave Poulin definitely brings back memories. P.S. Kudos to Mike Lange - one of my favorite non-Flyers announcers.
Lemieux could score with 500 different moves.
That last goal how he fakes Murphy inside then pulls the puck to the outside and blows by him. That move had to be at least 8 feet wide. This is why you just couldn't stop lemieux
This guy got to play with prime Wayne Gretzky and prime Mario Lemieux. I don’t think it’s a coincidence both those guys put up their best statistical seasons with Coffey!
From the rear camera angle, there was just enough space for the puck... Amazing Mario...
I just met Phil Bourque a few weeks ago and I didn’t even ask him about getting an assist on this goal! Instead I asked him about his crazy breakaway move he did on Tim Cheveldae.
Отлично Марио!!!
cooool!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember watching this game on tv when I was a kid. Mario looked like he was playing shinny. Just did what he wanted
trapper side
They ended up losing this game and missing the playoffs but they ended up with the 5th pick I'm the draft which turned out to be jaromir jagr
Wow. Lemieux had 4 goals and the penguins were losing 7-5. Wouldnt surprise me one bit if he had the primary assist on the other goal. Says all you need to know about the penguins in the early part of Marios career.
They wouldn’t have awarded Jarda a penalty shot. The probably wouldn’t have even penalized Zhitnik. A defenseman for the Rangers pulled the EXACT same stunt against Jarda during a game earlier that season at MSG and not only was Jarda not awarded a penalty shot, that fucking ref wouldn’t even call a penalty so the Pens could go on the PP. I think Steve Levy & Darren Pang were calling the game & even THEY couldn’t believe the ref didn’t do shit. Pang was yelling “No call?!” And you could hear Jarda down on the ice (quite rightly) screaming at the top of his lungs “That’s bullshit and you know it”
Lemieux was absolutely unbelievably perfect in his penalty shot attempts in his career. I don't think he's ever missed one ever. When he was awarded this penalty, I knew two things for certain: one, he was going to score no matter what, and two, he was going to go five-hole successfully.
Watching this in 2024. The amount of hooking that was allowed is funny. Today that’s 1000% penalty shot. Look how small Kelly Hrudey is compared to todays goalies.
He was greater than the "great one"
Might as well remove the goalie
The best part of this was the commentary. "Look out Loretta!"
😤 0:20
I was 100% sure that Lemieux would score.
He played at 50% and scored 50 goals. Not bad...
Do, Stevens didn’t do his homework! You gave him a guaranteed goal!
Mário was like a 🐯 tiger, full of energy, self - confidence and strength.
Mario is a hockey God.⭐
This is my go-to move for hockey breakaways. It almost always works.
Mario on a breakaway was one of the certainties of results in life.
I have a super Mario jersey if he was healthy like wayne. Gretzky said he would’ve broken my records.
Nobody would have dares to try hooking gretzky like that, it would have ended their career. Thats why gretzky's records dont mean shit
Agree 100% - don’t forget his bodyguard, Semenko!😂
Gretzky was the highest scoring player ever but Mario was THE best ever player. Had each had the same teams/players & # of games, Mario would’ve scored much higher. Not even close.
I was there at his “last” game in South Florida. Panthers gave him golf clubs on ice after the game. What a memory.
Goat
Class act. Didn't hot dog after any of these.
Isnt it funny that ovechkin did this its considered the greatest goal of all tine, but when Mario did it, it was just another day at the office. Simply the Best!
Terrible defense and goalie.
Great Mario Lemieux. BTW : If we listen carefully, until 1:30 of this video, we can partally hear some footages from the movie "On the Waterfront" by Elia Kazan, I recognize the music around 1:00 and then the voices of Marlon Brando and Eva Marie Saint 🤣😂
On this play Lemieux outsmart the goalie by moving on the other side behind the defensman at the last moment.
