Product review: Compostable trash bags? Are environmentalists serious??
So I have had my Aldi Countertop composter now for over a year. When I grabbed it, those cute little compostable trash bags kind of made sense to me. I have heard and participated in discussions about making LARGER trash bags ALSO compostable. I thought they were for ME to compost them in MY compost pile...But now I have questions - does this even work? Are there ANY facilities that compost those bags? Will those bags MAKE IT out of my house each week without starting to compost? Will they make it to my curb? How about TO the compost facilities? Find out what I discovered with just these LITTLE compostable trash bags.

Product Review - Are Dish Drying Stones worth the price?
Переглядів 1914 годин тому
For years I used those dish drying waffle fabric cloths on my counter and under the dish rack. I struggled with them developing mold, and even if bleached, they would get black stains that would not come out. I just gave up - then I tried dish racks with nice trays under neath, they got funky, too! I saw these stones and decided they were worth a try. Are they worth the price? Do they really wo...

    Hello, everyone - I had a question sent to me on Facebook and thought I would share: I read that the instructions say to dry every dish b4 placing it on the stone? Yes, some of the stones do say that in their description. However, the stones we own did NOT come with those instructions. In fact, they stated that you can place "damp" dishes directly on the stones. To my husband and I, DAMP dishes implies those we washed & rinsed by hand. We don't currently own a dishwasher and ALL our dishes are washed by hand. So we own a dish rack, which you can see in a photo in the video. All our "skinny" dishes like plates and some of our soup and ramen bowls, even pan lids, go into that rack. Then glassware gets washed, rinsed, and placed on the stones. I hope this helps! Let me know if there are any additional questions anyone has! Blessings, Judith, Director of Biblical Prepping.

    I'm writing this comment hours after watching the video so if I'm miss remembering my bad. But I think you had said something about not having luck with compost or your pepper's not doing great after compost. Then I recall you saying you put a lot of onions and garlic in your compost. You really don't want a lot of either of those, or citrus. A little is ok but best to avoid it all together if possible.

    • @biblicalprepping
      @biblicalprepping 11 днів тому

      Thank you for your reply. Since we cook pretty much everything from scratch, yes, I do have a lot of onion and garlic scraps - but it's not too much in comparison to all the other ingredients I pile in. We have 1/4 acre of wooded area and I add a lot of leave material as well as all the grass scraps and green wood chips I get from cleaning up the yard. It makes a good balance. I just can't seem to keep up with layering. LOL That ends up messing with my temperature in the pile. My peppers have been having problems since I moved from my old garden plot to my new area. It's just that our soil is REALLY that bad. The builders of this area, some 20+ years ago, allegedly removed all the topsoil. So it has too much potassium and other minerals. I have been trying to balance that out now for three garden seasons with raised beds in this new plot - got some great advice from WVU when they tested our soil for us. It IS getting there...little by little. This year my peppers did horribly because I could NOT get the seeds to start well and when I FINALLY got tall enough plants, it was too late. My hope is next year will be a blessing! Citrus - I hardly ever put citrus in the piles now. For some reason, even the organic citrus we can buy is now sprayed with a lacquer to make it shiny. VERY frustrating. I can't even dehydrated that junk. Wish WV could grow good citrus crops. LOL Just not the right environment up this high! I do appreciate your input - if you have any other ideas or thoughts, please share! Like how to stay on top of adding the ingredients so that you CAN get & keep a good pile going! I am the only "worker bee" human who enjoys all that yard work. LOL - Judith, director Biblical Prepping

      Ronald, I'm sorry to hear that - Mine is still working perfectly after about 3 months of having it. Do you mind my asking: 1) Does it just not CHARGE any more? Or charges but doesn't run? 2) If it turns on, is it that nothing comes out the sprayer? I had this problem and realized there is an internal filter inside the bottle at the bottom of the tube attached to the sprayer handle. I had a clogged one and it strained the motor badly. I almost caused mine to go kaput. Discovered that even though I run the liquids through a fabric to strain debris, there is micro stuff that still clogs that inside filter. I don't know if this will help. Just thought I would share those thoughts - I plan to do an update video on it sometime next week. It's a shame if it didn't last long - that just increases our trash output, especially the batteries in these kinds of machines. You want them to last a GOOD LONG TIME. Thanks for letting me know! - Judith, director Biblical Prepping

      Kathy - I have dried seed beans in the past to save for the following seasons, but this will be my first time drying actual DRY beans for the pantry! I am excited and hope that I do a good job. I LOVE cannellini beans in soups and Italian dishes. So if I could grow my own dried beans, I will be happy as a clam!!! I also have dried GREEN BEANS in the past! In fact, this week I made a pot of lentil vegetable soup and used an old jar or dried mixed veggies that had dried green beans in it. I MUCH PREFER either frozen or rehydrated beans over canned. Canned always have that funny canned veggie flavor. LOL Frozen seem so fresh most of the time, and dried are yummy, too! I am HOPING to get enough green beans to dehydrate some from my own crop. But if not, I don't mind grabbing a frozen bag every week and tossing them in to dehydrate! Keep your eye out for more updates!!!!

    have you ever tried using silicon circles in your press? I always had a hard time with parchment paper and then gave up but I'm thinking of doing this again and have wondered about cutting two silicon parchment circles...cause they could be used again and again.

      I haven't....that is an interesting idea....I wonder if they actually MAKE silicone circles that small. I will have to take a look and give them a try. I don't use silicone for actual baking - I am a tad uncertain of their long term safety, even though some say it is not a concern. LOL Just my thing! But on the press would be an interesting idea. Thanks for that! It may take me a while to get a video done, but I will do my best! - Judith, director of Biblical Prepping UPDATE!!!! I bought the glass set but can’t find where it says bpa-free. Also, can the glass go into a conventional oven or just the microwave? It says safe up to 425°F, so I assume that’s oven but not sure since it doesn’t specify oven-safe.

    • @biblicalprepping
      @biblicalprepping 4 місяці тому

      Hello, AprilHawkins, Judith here from Biblical Prepping....I use my set in the oven all the time. UP TO 425F degrees. But most often I cook/reheat at about 375 in the glass dishes - leaving the plastic lids off of course. I wrap them in a piece of parchment paper to cook/reheat. It works wonderfully. NOW, as far as BPA free - my box said that clearly on the label. I very rarely buy anything unless it is clearly listed on the label/box. In bigger letters is better! LOL When you read the box/package, were you able to read all wording? I know I recently bought a set of dishes and Lead free was in the online description, but the box arrived and I could not find it anywhere. It was actually on the bottom, along the edge in teeny, tiny black lettering. You might find it down there? Please let me know...and if not, I have emailed Aldi and gotten very swift responses. I hope this helps!!!

    I'm so jealous! For three years now my asparagus and blackberries are freezing. As soon. As the asparagus comes out of the ground a couple inches, they freeze and go limp. The berry canes freeze to the ground. I don't know what's going on. The garden is on top of a hill so it gets all cold winds. I might have to replant on the hillside.

      You are very welcome! I have to say I still use the entire unit! I LOVE the little food chopper for quick chopping small amounts of onion, celery, carrots for soups and sautes. And even for chopping nuts for recipes. I have a larger food processor with a big 8 cup bowl and it is just too big for most jobs - it's just two of us. I will also say that I bought another immersion blender online a while back - it is rechargeable and cordless. It is no where near as powerful as the aAldi one. The cordless one doesn't even puree a can of crushed tomatoes very well. My Aldi one makes them into tomato soup. LOL I truly hope yours is nice and works as well. I DO wish Aldi would bring one out that is a few inches longer, though. So I can puree an entire pot of spaghetti sauce! Blessings - Judith (Director, Biblical Prepping)

    I don’t think you have to go to the extra effort of cutting those small branches down so much. I’ve seen videos where folks are putting 10’ long branches with no difficulty at all. Good luck.

    • @biblicalprepping
      @biblicalprepping 8 місяців тому

      LOL I have put them in at quite long lengths as well - I believe the longest has been 12-15 feet...I did strip off the side branches, and yet it still decided at about 6-8 feet to whip around and smack me square on the jaw line. There is a definite "you could do longer" in the equation. However, I prefer to recommend the safer method over all. When it took a good 7 days to get rid of the DARK purple and move on to a faded purple on the side of my face - light enough to be covered with foundation for public appearance - I decided SHORTER IS SAFER. LOL Leaving the side branches invites the likelihood the chipper will catch you off guard at some point, too. Increasing the likelihood of being smacked as well. Because I have "been there, done that" I will pass. If people want to put in longer or leave side branches, that is their choice. I now err on the side of caution. Because NOT doing so hurt like heck. LOL

    What are the 3 slices? How clean?

    • @biblicalprepping
      @biblicalprepping 10 місяців тому

      I am not exactly certain what you are asking with, "What are the 3 slices?" I THINK you are asking about the thicknesses of each of the sections on the bread slicer guides. They are approximately 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" slices - but you can cut the slices as thick as desired by cutting every other space as well. That is one of the great blessings of this particular model. As far as how clean the cut is, that is always based on the quality and length of your knife and its cutting surface. You can view an exact slice of bread freshly cut in this video where I test out the new 12" knife we ordered specifically for this bamboo bread slicer! ua-cam.com/video/mHzwrKzDeEk/v-deo.htmlsi=Eq143fLQoEA6v5nL

HOWEVER, they DO have a big sale going on now through the 30th on their site!!! That would be your best deal. As far as a specific eye cream no. I haven't seen one. I DO use their hand and cuticle salve though under my eyes for wrinkles and it is helping. I know that isn't too helpful. I am having a problem taking out the blades. I can only get to the outer bolt up front and the inner bolt through the back hole in the rotator plate guard, but either way, the bolts are in there rock solid and I cannot get them loose and I don't want to strip out the heads. Recommendations?

      I had to take it almost completely apart to remove the original blades...the second set was easier. I haven't been outside much since 4th of July, but definitely need to do a video to show folks how I did mine!!! In the mean time, My suggestions: WD40 and a tooth brush!!! First, I tried accessing inner bolts as you described, and ended up removing that plate guard. I took LOTS of photos along the way so I didn't mess things up putting them back together. But the WD40 was the final key. Spray the bolts the night before if you can, or at least a couple hours before planning to try and change them. I scrubbed them with an old toothbrush after spraying with the WD40, then let them sit, sprayed and scrubbed again. I found that a lot of sap had settled into the edges around the bolts. The WD40 seems to dissolve that well enough that I was able to get them loosened. Then I carefully pried them loose with the provided wrench/tool. I DID have to tap the tool with a small tack hammer on the last bolt because it DID NOT want to come loose easily. Remember the blades ARE reversible, so you may only need to turn them around - my original set was completely shot with gauges and nicks in the newer edge, so I needed brand new ones. I ordered TWO sets of new so I never run out. Also, a recent experience I had with my Earthwise Tilller/cultivator. SOME parts are being phased out - if you think you might need a plate in the future or another major part like that, check into ordering one. I am very upset with their parts tactics lately - Had to buy a new tiller because the transmission blew and they no longer sell new trannies. ALSO, I suggest you ensure you filed your warranty info. My tiller was 6 months out of warranty, but I know your chipper is newer. You want to ensure you have that coverage! Let me know if you have any more questions. - Judith

      @@judith3063 Thank you, Judith for all that information. I do have to see if I ever filled out the warranty on the chipper. I did finally got the bolts loose. I soaked them for a couple days with WD40, as you recommended and then scraped around them with a pick to get any sap out of the space between the bolt edges and the rotator plate surface. Then I had to use a screwdriver slipped into the handle of the Allen wrench handle for extra leverage. That did the job. Update: Just one thing I did when reinstalling the blades, I dabbed a very small amount of anti-seize grease on the threads to make them less likely to give me a hard time in removing them next time around.

    How do you get to loosen both bolts on the blades when replacing them? I can only get to the outer one, but the front of the rotator plate guard blocks the inner one. I can get to it via the hole towards the back of the rotator plate guard, but either way, I cannot get them loose. The inner bolts are rock solid in there and I don't want to strip them. This can be a great way to cook them - but we don't use a pressure cooker (or Insta-pot style cooker) at all. I know a lot of people do. For regular cooking, the Anasazi do need a short cooking time just to rehydrate them. They don't need any soaking time like kidney, pinto, red, black, or other dried beans. 🙂 I prefer the method I describe in the video of bringing to a boil and letting them sit for an hour or two so that I don't over cook them while I do other things around the house. Apologies - I was out of town with a family emergency and had no access to my computer. A few things might be happening - 1) it may not be able to pull all the air out as you said. 2) could any of the edges of the frozen sauce have made micro-holes in the bags preventing a seal? 3) I find that anything frozen is best done in a shorter, but wider, container. I like to freeze chicken and vegetable broths sometimes. If I use a tall round or tall square container (each holds about 2 qts) I can never pull a full seal. But if I freeze the broth in a short square container (which holds a little over a quart) the sealer pulls a much better vacuum.
