    It will be interesting to see if, over time, dust gets in the mechanism of your dust gates and makes them tough to turn. They appear to be "self cleaning" to a degree so hopefully this won't even be an issue. I don't have any plans to install ducting into my shed but I like to see what everyone is doing for their workspaces. I'll stick with moving a hose around to each machine as I use it. Reason is, my shed is small enough, and all my machines are close enough to the extractor that this isn't really an issue for my setup. 👍

      There is a great video on the ball valves and how they dont accumulate dust over time which is why I decided to go with them: ua-cam.com/video/epJ929kZzc4/v-deo.html Running the host between machines is absolutely fine, I have done that for the past 7 years across my various workshops...but this time with me building it, I wanted to run the dedicated ducting. It was a lot of work, quite tedious, but once it is done I don't have to worry about it for a long time.

    I’ve seen a lot of presenter woodworkers burn out, trying to maintain the once a week schedule to try and “stay relevant” in the UA-cam algorithm. In my opinion, if it’s once a week, fortnight, month, it’s all good, and anyone who is half decent will understand, that it has to remain fun for you to continue to present the great content you do. Good luck in Vegas. BTW I have a mate who runs a cyber security company and travels a lot. I’ll have to ask him if he’s going to Vegas.

    Hi Luke. I've seen a few other UA-camrs who also have other job/life comitments and are small enough channels to not have staff to fill gaps talk about this sort of thing before, and IIRC something that comes up is, if you can, at some point in the future, get one video ahead of the game, and leave yourself that 1 extra video 'buffer' you can then spend that buffer when you really need time away and just scheduel the video for the normal future date to keep up your video publishing schedule. This way, you are making the extra video when it's convienant you, and spending it when you don't have the time. Also, my own thought is as a maker channel, you may find oppertinities in the future to get almost a 2 for 1 with some of your recordings. For example, one video about making something, and one video about a new tool that you do a review of, that you shoot at the same time. (perhaps you purchased the tool to make that project) You can then overlap some of the footage but edit it a different order with a different voiceover, and you can get two videos with less time investment than it would otherwise have taken to make 2 seperate videos about different things.

    • @RichmondWoodworks
      @RichmondWoodworks 20 днів тому

      Absolutely, I had a buffer of about 10 over the last 4 months - but it slowly caught up. Totally aim to have a bit more of a buffer - just the projects recently have been a little more intricate with electronics and 3D design and printing. Now that I am back - and parts have finally arrived from Ali Express, I can start doing the next stage of automating the dust collection too. Appreciate the feedback, a new project is always a great excuse to buy a new tool!!

      Absolutely, but even with that video I am earthing my dust collection…I just don’t want to be that test case. The difference I see, is that I am driving screws into the pvc pipe to earth it outside the pipe as pvc isn’t conductive.

      @@RichmondWoodworks maybe the best way is to earth it at the machine’s outlet, middle and inlet of the dust collection with a DIY dangling metal cable design or thin chain so it’s flexible. This would kill the static from charging before and after as the particle movement passes by. I’d also be concerned if you’re into cutting soft metal like copper, aluminum or brass and a hot piece gets sucked into the dust igniting it. Just ideas that might help work out a better method to kill static before it accumulates.

    HDPE would actually be worse than the MDF for the table. It's not the most stable material, would require a *lot* of bolts to get it flat, and generally bulges when screwed into. The heat would likely cause a bit of warping too. Funnily enough, I've never used it with melamine tape, but only 1mm ABS so I have some different experiences with it. * 1mm ABS tends to have a little bit less recoil, but the guides are a bit of a weak point, I'd agree there. I think the thicker material lets you get away with cleaning it less because its stiff enough to push the glue out of the way 🤣 * The cutter is impossible to cut through thicker banding, needs more of a mechanical advantage or in my case, a mallet to hit it hard enough to cut through. * It'd be great if there was a featherboard/roller pushing the panel down - 99% of the time that edging was out of alignment for long pieces for me was when I've had less pressure on it. A wider table would help, but I think featherboard would be the best approach * For the 100m rolls of 1mm ABS, the outrigger table is actually completely useless. Not far enough away from the guides. I had to make my own 'spool holder' that's about 50cm away. Agreed that its a super expensive tool - I had to convince myself to buy one, but now I have it I'm glad I've got it.

    • @RichmondWoodworks
      @RichmondWoodworks Місяць тому

      I mispoke and meant to say Phenolic, which I think has better heat properties. I haven't had a chance yet to run 1mm ABS through just yet, but will be doing so when I tackle inside the house. I really hope it isn't too hard to cut through, as that would just drive me crazy. I think having an infeed, wider table or some feeders would really help but it would add to the already decent footprint. For the ABS, plyco sell it in 50m rolls, which should make the outrigger table ok enough, I haven't even seen 100m rolls...where do you get them from? Overall, I am happy I bought it as it did speed some things up, but $800 is a bit to spend.

    If you place some limit switches at the two desired extremes of where your 3d printed rollers go you could remove the guess work on when to let go of the remote. As a viewer, the feedback I would give about the length of your video is that you could cut out a of of the 'trying out' sections of video. You were trying out your mechanism about 5-6 times in this video, when you one pre-build 'moved with your hands' motion to explain when your going to do, then building steps, and then one showing it working at the end would have been enough, we don't need to see your testing it after every step unless you need to show some kind of problem you were not expecting when you showed your plan at the start comes up. With regard to the actual result, good job!

    Hi there, Marcus again, That is a nice way to sort things out in a small workshop... I'd actually ditch the remote! because frankly we have too many of the silly things & you would only need to use it when changing the buckets.....( that said we wish them for other things) I was in the chemists waiting for a Script the other day (I still use Paper scripts & I am glad of that with the news this week we had of the information breach this week in Australia) I saw that even an electric toothbrush has an app....... I had a remote with a reversing camera I purchased for my vehicle some time ago. (I was using it more as a rear view mirror) I misplaced the remote..... but then must have disconnected the battery in the car for some maintenance reason completly seperate to the reversing camera & It reverted back, so If a car passed me on the drivers side it showed on the camera on the passengers side! Perhaps why I noticed & wrote to you a week or so ago!......The most disconcerting 20 Klms I have ever driven!!!!...... The people where I purchased the camera helped me & used another remote as I couldn't find mine...I very nearly purchased another! But as you might well know, as soon as you commit to that new one, you find the missing item.... And I did find it a couple of weeks later........ I am enjoying your journey so Keep it up.....Marcus

    What a triumph. Something to aspire to. No wonder your chuffed. You could be “the Dennis of the South” at this rate. 😊 Possibly just me, but I would have watched on if it had been twice as long …… probably will be once I watch the speeded segments in slow mo. Look forward to watching how you deal with the exhausts. Would have liked to see how you access the Camvac to operate the motors and empty etc. Look forward to the next one. Cheers Howard

      Thanks Howard, that would be quite the honour indeed! I have some pretty cool ideas on the exhaust, running it through the muffler but also something else too. I will need to see if I can make it work. I will make sure I do a run down on how I access everything once it is all put together, and also probably do a lessons learnt and what I would change if I was to do it again. All the very best, Luke.

    What is the original purpose of the large bag that you have now tossed? Thanks for an interesting video!! 🤓👍

    • @RichmondWoodworks
      @RichmondWoodworks Місяць тому

      The large bag stops dust getting to the motors, which are also covered by filters. It doesn’t capture the dust, the dust sits directly in the metal bin.

  • @howardbecdove9780
    @howardbecdove9780 Місяць тому

    Thanks very much for your video. I bought the 3 motor version…. also inspired by Dennis. I live in Sydney and during a trip to Melbourne, bought the Camvac. I just came across your video today. I also came across the file to print those housings, but have no printer. In the end I purchased the filters only a few days ago, after months of procrastinating and hand wringing about the postage cost,as I couldn’t find another option. They are on their way. Postage was a killer at around AU $145. 😢 The suppliers “Stockroom” in Canada are nice to deal with however. Meanwhile, yesterday I hooked it up to my new (first) thicknesser through the super dust deputy 4/5 ( like the one in your background) that I also set up yesterday, with mixed results. It was the first time I’ve tried to use anything other than a shop vac. Still learning, and desperate to improve. I also would like to build a sound box, and welcome any content on the Camvac in general, I’ve found very little content that helps. I’m hoping you’ll share your progress with the Camvac. BTW I tried to measure the air flow with the 3 motors running, but it was off the scale. Subscribed! Cheers Howard

    • @RichmondWoodworks
      @RichmondWoodworks Місяць тому

      Hi Howard, Thanks for subscribing! The postage costs was something I just couldn't get past - I think the add-on is amazing from Stockroom, great little idea. I do wish they came as standard on the camvac, or at least something you can buy as an add-on here in Australia. When you say mixed results, it wasn't picking up the chip from the thicknesser? The video for the enclosure of the camvac is coming out this weekend, and I am currently recording the cylcone box with bin - I hope to tackle the sound box / muffler soon - I have some ideas loosely based on Dennis' design, but will mix it up a little to fix my space. I measured the 2 motor version down to a 90mm PVC pipe, and it was off the scale too...my anonomometer only goes to 30m/s. Curious where you got your Camvac from? I got mine for MMVIC, curious if there are any other stockists around.

    • @howardbecdove9780
      @howardbecdove9780 Місяць тому

      @@RichmondWoodworks Thanks for your reply. Yes! Only half the chips are caught by the bin with the cyclone. I’d quickly put everything together to run some hardwood edging for my workbench. It’s taking up floor space where my trailer normally goes, and need to complete. I’ll need to revisit the whole cyclone thing now that the jobs nearly done. That’s great news about upcoming videos, that’s exactly what I now need. Look forward to them. Yes, bought from MMVic. I think they are the sole distributor for Australia. I know you’ll want to move on with your topics, but it’s great to know that you’re doing content about the Camvac. Thanks once again for taking the time to share.

    Thanks again for this. 1 suggestion and 1 question. - As you get people all over the world viewing your videos. Maybe a good idea to also show results in CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute), Then it's easier for people to compare results. - Where did you purchase the Dust Collector from? I live in Sydney. Thanks - Steve

    • @RichmondWoodworks
      @RichmondWoodworks Місяць тому

      haha, I was thinking the same thing when I recorded the video initially...however the anomometer I happen to purchase doesn't have CFM as a setting, maybe I need to buy a different one, I suppose I could have done the conversion myself. Thank you for the feedback, much appreciated. I bought the dust collector from mmvic.com.au/ they have all the variants of the CamVac, however, when I bought the Record Power Air Cleaner the remote didn't work, I have emailed a couple times without a response - so they may not be so responsive if something goes wrong. It could have just been me though.

    Oh my god, I feel honored. And here is the reason why I asked you this question. I am designing a dust collection system for the CNC machine that I am building and through experiment I saw that a good cyclon eliminates most of the big particles and for the most dangerous small ones filters are both expensive and hard to maintain. That is why I was designing a water curtain to use after the cyclon to trap the fine dust and get rid of it properly. Here in Türkiye, we have 3 motor (1200w x 3) vacumes that are easily available and very cheap I started with them, and removing the filter and using only the cyclone and the water curtain yielded really good results. So I got myself a 5.5kw centrifugal fan and started to design the same system but this time for 150mm ducting. currently, I am trying to build a cyclon from a 55-gallon (208 Liters) barrel, and soon a bigger water curtain.

    • @RichmondWoodworks
      @RichmondWoodworks Місяць тому

      Oh Wow! I would love to see the end result, very curious how the water curtain would function (as I google water curtains and dust collection). Looking at hundreds of videos on dust collection over the years where they have a cylcone, I believe there is always a level of dust going into the dust collector itself. However, it is very very small, I have seen a couple systems where there are two cylcones which may help? I would love to have a dust collector that you don't really have to maintain, that way I would not need to really access it at all. In the next video I go through creating the new dust collector cabinet, I think it makes really good use of the corner of a workshop, and not having much need to access it frequently because of the cyclone. Thanks again for the idea to do the baseline and look forward to hopefully seeing your dust collection setup, please do share it when you make it.

    If you look at the Early Few video's of the 'Corner house project' (an english couple who purchased a double story stone irish cottage) you will see what I mean about yours...... This is a (hopefully productive)comment!.... not a criticism... I think the side lane on your house is on ther left hand side as you look at your house from the front! your shed is on the right hand side of your garden you look at your house from the street.... I think they (The corner house project) told me the same thing a similar issue with the camera, when I commented on the car......Sorry I noticed it with yours but as I was interested in your progress & I understand the excitement you had as well whilst doing your workshop it was difficult for me to follow as cabinets or fences switched sides.....I have subscribed & batch watches your series, I think you have done a pretty good job so far.... Where was it you got those bulk screws?.... ( Scrooze or similar) you should also try to refer to some more of the more specialist supplies...... 'Bunnings' are really not that cheap, when you look at it..... People at Carbatec in Clayton for example ar far more helpful than some of those you might find in the bigger green stores, Yes they might be convenient! but we cannot afford to lose the good, more specialised stores.......
