This event brings together leading scholars on philosophy as a way of life (PWL) globally to discuss new directions in the field opened by the works of Pierre and Ilsetraut Hadot, which has since been developed by John Sellars and others around the world. What impacts does PWL have on how we understand the history of philosophy, and philosophy itself? How do PWL influenced approaches allow for new readings of particular figures? Does PWL research open up new avenues for cross-cultural research? Are key categories in PWL research, like spiritual exercises, able to be developed further, and how should they be critically understood? And what impact can re-understanding philosophy through a PWL lens have for how we do and teach philosophy today, within and outside of the universities?
