      I tried to make one, but the camera angle is so wide that you either have to be right on top pf the food, which makes it impossible to actually manage a recipe or you have to set it farther away and there is too much in the frame and it doesn't look good at all. It's the same reason why you don't shoot food with a wide angle and I should have realized that before trying.

    Great video. I like how you take your time explaining things. 3 questions... 1) The bottom and backdrop, are they foam board or something else? 2. Where did you get you stands to hold the base and back? Last, any tips to eliminate glass glare? Love your vids. Thx.

    • @ChristopherCina
      @ChristopherCina 2 місяці тому

      Hey there! Thanks again for watching... those specific surfaces I purchased from ReplicaSurfaces.com, and they come with a set of the stands. They are quite sturdy, more sturdy than foam core and come in a variety of patterns. They are not cheap, but they are great options. There are a few things you can do to mitigate the glare, first one is moving the light, sometimes just a small shift in the direction and/or position of the light will help with the glare. Bounce cards, like a matte foam core, as long as they are not reflective like my aluminum foil, will also bounce light without creating a glare or hotspots in glass. The other thing you can try is some well positioned black foam core, does a great job of absorbing the light. Hope this helps!

      I have 1 speed light, bought it hoping it would be my primary light source and help me elevate my photography 😅😂 I find myself going back to natural light often, I only use the speed light when it's the only choice.

    • @ChristopherCina
      @ChristopherCina 2 місяці тому

      @@onalekitsojasonkenosi1912 For the type of shooting I do, I prefer the video lights, they are consistent and predictable, especially in situations like the video above. That said, I do prefer natural light, but all depends on the circumstances. There is a lot more variation in the light with color temps and brightness depending on your weather that day. I've spent an hour shooting in restaurants using only natural light and have gotten some wildly different color temps and casts in my photos. It can make it difficult to deliver consistent images, just something to be aware of. Cheers!

    Great photos. When you deal with customers, do you supply actual physical photos or just the digital files? And what if the printout they want is too big and you get a "grainy" printout - what then? Thanks, enjoying your channel.

    • @ChristopherCina
      @ChristopherCina 2 місяці тому

      Hello again! I use a service called WeTransfer to send the files digitally, it's quick and easy and I get a confirmation that they have actually received them. Regarding the printouts, the question should be asked up front if any of these images will be printed, and here are the acceptable print size parameters. You could easily get away with a 24' x 36' in print from a 24 MP sensor, all that said, it's not something I have ever dealt with for a client.

    Nice vid. So you filmed in a vertical format for IG. But do you re-shoot horizontally for UA-cam or can you change the format for a regular UA-cam video? Thanks

    • @ChristopherCina
      @ChristopherCina 3 місяці тому

      Thanks for watching! Yes, I filmed vertically specifically for reels, but I don't post recipe videos on my YT channel, so no need for me to reshoot. That said, if you were going to use for both landscape and vertical formats, you would want to shoot in landscape for regular UA-cam format. You just need to be cognizant about about what can be seen in the video so that it fits into a vertical format when you go to crop in your video editing software. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

    I’m thinking of getting an Action 4 for some food videos - are you using these for your edits? What videos have you shot with it?

    • @ChristopherCina
      @ChristopherCina 7 місяців тому

      Hey there, thanks for watching! Honestly, that was my main reason for purchasing the 3, and I would like to get the 4, but in my opinion, they are just too wide for food videos, even in the standard mode. I've just upgraded from a Z6 to a Z6ii and both are pretty bulky, thought the Osmo would make that easier, but I never really considered focal length, all my videos are shot between 50mm and 105mm, Osmo 4 is 15mm in standard. When using the Osmo, there was way too much other stuff in the shot, you just can't ever get close enough, hard to focus on the food, and if you shoot in 4K and try and crop in, it just starts to look wonky, so I never really used it for food. They are great cameras and I would recommend one depending on use case, but I can't recommend them for food videos personally. Hope this helps. Cheers!

      Now that you mention it, I might make a video in the next coming weeks why this ISN't a great camera for food videos, easier to explain what I'm talking about.

      Amazing - thanks so much for the reply! I’m looking to film outdoors for some bits but have decided to go with a iPhone 15 pro max, with cage and lenses / filters, and also my pocket 3 with ND’s. Will see how things come out!

    I use 55mm f/3.5 macro and 105mm f/2.8 macro lenses for food photography with small format cameras. When I need front and rear movement for perspective control and/or depth-of-field control, I use a 4x5 inch large format monorail view camera with 90mm wide-angle lens and 135mm normal lens.

      You're set up is definitely more specialized, good on you. I went through your channel trying to find some examples of what you mentioned in the comments but didn't find anything so maybe you'll have some examples soon! Cheers.
