This is really informative, thank you!
Glad you got something out of it and thanks for watching!
Thank you Sir! 😊
Thanks for watching and I hope it helped!
@@ChristopherCina Yes of course it is very useful! Thanks again
THANK YOU
Thanks for watching!
Wonderful video/tutorial. I'm a portrait photographer and in my downtime have become interested in food and/or flat lay photograpy for fun and learning. Thanks.
Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching! Best of luck with the food and flatlay. I find it much easier than portraits so you should be able to pick it up quite quickly!
Great tutorial. Thank you. (Recommended by ChatGPT)
Sound?
Sorry, I don't understand, I checked the video and it has sound. Were you not able to hear it?
@@ChristopherCina Sorry! I was thinking of the kind of sound or music one would add to a food video to add value.
Care to show a Action 3 food demo. It be great to see how it works.
I tried to make one, but the camera angle is so wide that you either have to be right on top pf the food, which makes it impossible to actually manage a recipe or you have to set it farther away and there is too much in the frame and it doesn't look good at all. It's the same reason why you don't shoot food with a wide angle and I should have realized that before trying.
Love this 👍
Right on, hope it helped! Thanks for watching!
thank you!
You're very welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching!
Great job man.. I like the way you simplify it... keep it up 👏

🎉C you were talking too much... Instead of showing how it's done
Ha! No one has ever accused me of talking to much but...I'll admit the first 3 minutes or so are a little wordy, but if you can get to 3:20, that's where all the magic happens!
Seeing is believing; thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!

Great video. I like how you take your time explaining things. 3 questions... 1) The bottom and backdrop, are they foam board or something else? 2. Where did you get you stands to hold the base and back? Last, any tips to eliminate glass glare? Love your vids. Thx.
Hey there! Thanks again for watching... those specific surfaces I purchased from ReplicaSurfaces.com, and they come with a set of the stands. They are quite sturdy, more sturdy than foam core and come in a variety of patterns. They are not cheap, but they are great options. There are a few things you can do to mitigate the glare, first one is moving the light, sometimes just a small shift in the direction and/or position of the light will help with the glare. Bounce cards, like a matte foam core, as long as they are not reflective like my aluminum foil, will also bounce light without creating a glare or hotspots in glass. The other thing you can try is some well positioned black foam core, does a great job of absorbing the light. Hope this helps!
@@ChristopherCina Thanks so much. Looking forward to more videos. I hope you enjoyed the ice cream after the shoot. :)
I really enjoy your videos Chris, super informative. Keep at it 🙏
Hope the videos help and thanks for watching!
What challenges are you having using studio lights?
I have 1 speed light, bought it hoping it would be my primary light source and help me elevate my photography 😅😂 I find myself going back to natural light often, I only use the speed light when it's the only choice.
@@onalekitsojasonkenosi1912 For the type of shooting I do, I prefer the video lights, they are consistent and predictable, especially in situations like the video above. That said, I do prefer natural light, but all depends on the circumstances. There is a lot more variation in the light with color temps and brightness depending on your weather that day. I've spent an hour shooting in restaurants using only natural light and have gotten some wildly different color temps and casts in my photos. It can make it difficult to deliver consistent images, just something to be aware of. Cheers!
Thank you!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Great info; thanks for sharing. The end product is impressive, and the ribs look delicious. I'm definitely going to try making the Carolina Gold BBQ sauce recipe; I'm subscribed!
Thanks for watching! Yeah, that sauce is yummy, and easy! The ribs and that sauce will be a topic on my other UA-cam channel once I launch it, more focused on food and cooking. Cheers!
Great photos. When you deal with customers, do you supply actual physical photos or just the digital files? And what if the printout they want is too big and you get a "grainy" printout - what then? Thanks, enjoying your channel.
Hello again! I use a service called WeTransfer to send the files digitally, it's quick and easy and I get a confirmation that they have actually received them. Regarding the printouts, the question should be asked up front if any of these images will be printed, and here are the acceptable print size parameters. You could easily get away with a 24' x 36' in print from a 24 MP sensor, all that said, it's not something I have ever dealt with for a client.
@@ChristopherCina Thanks again. I like that you take your time with you videos. :)
Nice vid. So you filmed in a vertical format for IG. But do you re-shoot horizontally for UA-cam or can you change the format for a regular UA-cam video? Thanks
Thanks for watching! Yes, I filmed vertically specifically for reels, but I don't post recipe videos on my YT channel, so no need for me to reshoot. That said, if you were going to use for both landscape and vertical formats, you would want to shoot in landscape for regular UA-cam format. You just need to be cognizant about about what can be seen in the video so that it fits into a vertical format when you go to crop in your video editing software. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
@@ChristopherCina Thank you
TIL: edit a photo to be good 🗿
Very good, but more accurately, it makes a good photo better!
I'd love to see you explain 45 degree angle photos. Mine always seem off balance, and I need some tips. Thanks for this one, you make it look so easy!
Hi there! Thanks for watching and also for the kind words. I actually have a video on camera angles I did last year about this time, I think I can post a link to it... ua-cam.com/video/54Gb5ueuFLw/v-deo.html If that doesn't work, you can find it on my channel page. Let me know if that helps. Cheers!
Really enjoyed this 👍🏻
Right on, thanks for watching!!
Your videos are extremely helpful thank you so much 👏🏻
Glad I could help! Let me know if there is anything specific you'd like to see!
Would have been nice to illustrate where to lock the focus point using the tomato and salad picture as an example
You make a good point, I can see how that would have helped to further illustrate the progression of photos. For your info, I focused on the garlic glove just to the left of the tomato. Now ow that you mention this, I might see if I can go back in and highlight that. Thanks for watching!
@@ChristopherCina you're welcome. Always willing to send helpful feedback
great job!
Thanks for watching!!
your intro is really nice, did you design that yourself? I'm going to start a channel and I want to have an intro also. thanks!
Thanks for watching...the intro was a template I edited from Canva, really easy to do.
Nice
Thanks for watching!
You know what? I am a regular viewer of your UA-cam Channel. I have seen all your videos and your content qualities are very good. I learned lots of things from you. Your channel has great quality contents but still it is not delivering its right audiences due to SEO problems. You should focus on your SEO so that You can get a big fanbase. Thanks.
Thanks for the heads up!
Informative video, Thanks Christopher!!. I have a Canon 6DM2 with a 50mm 1.8 and a 100mm macro 2.8 non L
Very nice! You're well suited to get some great photos. Is that the Canon 100mm? I've never used it but heard it's an awesome lens.
Yes it’s the Canon 100mm
what iwatani stove is that? loved the video
I'm pretty sure it's the 35FW, bought 2 of them about 10 years ago and they still work perfectly. Thanks for watching!!
Awesome setup and explanation, Chris! I’ve been playing around with different tools to improve my food reels and came across boost app social. It really helps in crafting catchy captions and enhancing profiles.
Been there with boost app social too! It's slick for tweaking those tiny details in my profile.
Yes my good man that polarizer is crap I highly suggest Hoya CPL Or Nisi magnetic filters Or even magnetic filters from neewer
I ended up getting one from Breakthrough Photography cuz yeah, that one wasn't very good.
Video maybe 3 years old But I see good photographs And wishing I can get down there But this person can only get as far as my mountain bikes allow it for my weekend warrior trips with no rain
Thanks! I wish I had been there with more water flow but it was a beautiful area.
Excellent tips! Showed my photo students to inspire them.
Fantastic! Thanks for watching and sharing, I hope they were able to get something useful out of it. Cheers!
Can you please do a video on editing?
Do you mean editing the actual video? Let me see what I can do, thanks for watching!
Yes how to edit a video.
Nice stuff. FYI the correct pronunciation of the name of the soil type of those hills, based on the original German is LUS. The only other place in the world where soil based hills like that are found is in China.
Ha! Thanks, I've heard so many different pronunciations of Loess, I just picked one and went with it! Hoping to get back to that area later this year, thanks for watching!
Thanks! This was one of the best tutorials Ive seen For Food Photography!
Glad it was helpful, I did have fun making it. Thanks for watching!
Interesting video 👍
Thanks for the visit!
thanks for the tips
Hope they help!
Good to see a video from you Chris! Great information here. I've exclusively shot in manual mode, but recently I've started using shutter and aperture priority while doing street photography. Hope you are doing well pal. Have a great week!
Thanks Paul! When I got my first Nikon D60 back in 2008 I made myself shoot in manual mode, didn't get a single photo for the first 6 months...now, it's all I use. Lots of food shooters use Aperture priority although I've never felt conformable letting the camera make any decisions, I'm a control l freak :-) I'm doing well and getting better, excited for warmer weather. Hope you are enjoying the new home and settling in well, cheers!
Good to see you back brother!!
Thanks David! Feels good to have my photo mojo back, was a depressing time being away from YT and the camera. Hope you're well, cheers!
What are the ingredients!!!!! I can tell most but not all
3/4 cup yellow mustard 1/2 cup honey 1/4 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup cider vinegar 1/4 cup ketchup 2 tbs worcestershire sauce 2 Tbs hot sauce 1 tsp garlic powder 1/2 tsp cayenne 1/2 tsp kosher salt Easy to make, enjoy!!
I’m thinking of getting an Action 4 for some food videos - are you using these for your edits? What videos have you shot with it?
Hey there, thanks for watching! Honestly, that was my main reason for purchasing the 3, and I would like to get the 4, but in my opinion, they are just too wide for food videos, even in the standard mode. I've just upgraded from a Z6 to a Z6ii and both are pretty bulky, thought the Osmo would make that easier, but I never really considered focal length, all my videos are shot between 50mm and 105mm, Osmo 4 is 15mm in standard. When using the Osmo, there was way too much other stuff in the shot, you just can't ever get close enough, hard to focus on the food, and if you shoot in 4K and try and crop in, it just starts to look wonky, so I never really used it for food. They are great cameras and I would recommend one depending on use case, but I can't recommend them for food videos personally. Hope this helps. Cheers!
Now that you mention it, I might make a video in the next coming weeks why this ISN't a great camera for food videos, easier to explain what I'm talking about.
Amazing - thanks so much for the reply! I’m looking to film outdoors for some bits but have decided to go with a iPhone 15 pro max, with cage and lenses / filters, and also my pocket 3 with ND’s. Will see how things come out!
I use 55mm f/3.5 macro and 105mm f/2.8 macro lenses for food photography with small format cameras. When I need front and rear movement for perspective control and/or depth-of-field control, I use a 4x5 inch large format monorail view camera with 90mm wide-angle lens and 135mm normal lens.
You're set up is definitely more specialized, good on you. I went through your channel trying to find some examples of what you mentioned in the comments but didn't find anything so maybe you'll have some examples soon! Cheers.
Great tutorial! please keep up 🤩
Thanks for watching, more videos coming!
