While I was in India I decided to have my newly diagnosed cataracts removed before it became medically necessary here in the States. This Institute is where I had the surgery done. The cost was less than a round trip airline ticket and what the insurance copay would have been combined. Better yet, I did not have to wait for the condition to impact my activities of daily living in order for the insurance pay for it. The care I received was superior to that provided here in the States. My doctor also partners with other medical specialists. Together they visit villages to provide health care and vision screenings to those that do not have the means or transportation to seek medical care. They give out free reading glasses and medicines. During one village visit they found a boy blind since birth due to severe cataract formation. The cataracts were cause by steroid medication his mother took while pregnant. Desai Eye Institute did the surgery for free. Now with “Vision on Wheels” they will be able to provide more comprehensive eye screenings.
