MADMAN (1981) | RETRO HORROR MOVIE REVIEW | SPOOKY FLIX FEST 2024
This is a great movie. The accuracy and Tom Cruise was actually not bad a pool. So often pool movies have so many cuts as the actor is awful. I liked it and felt it maintained the gritty vibe of the pool halls I have been in.
Glad you like it! I’d forgotten you were a bit of a pool shark. :)
Thanks! Totally agree!
As a Tom Cruise fan, a Paul Newman fan, a MSMA fan, I don't like this movie. Saw it for the first time recently and i gave it 2 tapes. It sounds like The Hustler is required watching first. Maybe i should go back and watch that first to see if my opinion changes.
You should definitely check out The Hustler!
Such a good movie! Haven't seen it for a long time, need to give it a rewatch!
Definitely! 👍
Watch Color of Money and Rounders back to back. Then prepare to move to Vegas 😂
Excellent advice! 🤣
I remembered I did not comment! Correcting that mistake and keeping the streak alive...I did need to wear a jacket to watch this movie while on a plane. Not a bad movie at all. These guys would have been a mess on Mt. Everest, got to work together...like you two :) Side note, in an alternate universe Michael Bay blew up the mountain and exposed a Transformer. Also, Hans Zimmer was feeling his inner Pink Floyd for the Ascent :)
Glad you kept the streak going! And, as usual, great points made. Especially the idea of an alternate Bay-iverse! 🤣
This was very quirky when I watched it the first time. The second time I felt it was something special. Not as drastic as when I watched Natural Born Killers, hated it and now love it. I did think what made it for me were the side characters. The dance scene is very memorable and was just fit perfectly. Your right about the timing, it is hard to pin down what time frame this was supposed to be. Very much a subtle retro vibe. Efrin was a great complement to offset the goofy Napoleon. Great job, fellas!
Thanks, man! Great points (as always). I haven’t watched NBK in yeeeeears, but have been wanting to revisit to see how it hits me decades later.
People actually watch this nonsense?
🤔
This is a movie that I did not like when I first saw it, but grew to enjoying on future watches.
Well, at least you get to enjoy it! :)
2004 is retro now? Good God....
Yes, welcome to our world. :)
Big hat. Funny. -Turd Ferguson 2:40
🤔🤷♂️
Great to meet you guys! Subbed and can't wati to see more
Thanks so much, man! It was awesome meeting you too!!!
Tony rules 🤘!!! ( I am Melevill!! Worship me!!!) 😈
Michael Biehn!!!
Yes!!!🙌
@ Love him!!
SUCKS that it’s ONLY commentary and we don’t get to see any of the actual movie 😝😖😡
Yeah, if only we didn’t have that pesky copyright thing. 😏
Yes! Darrell’s favorite Christmas movie! 😂😂😂
Absolutely! Well, this and BAD SANTA! 🤣
Great movie and I was lucky enough to see it in the theater as well
Agreed!
Definitely check out the mangler
Will do! 👍
This was the best movie I had ever seen when I saw this. I saw it on vhs, recorded off of tv, probably a year or two after it was in theaters. My babysitter Jennifer or her sister Vicky brought it over for us to watch. I loved it immediately and still do. It's way underrated and none of the 20 somethings have even heard of it. None of them I've ever asked know anything about it.
Yes! TOY SOLDIERS is awesome!!! 😎
When this came out in the summer of 88’, it really broke ground by having a hero who not only had a sense of humor, but also could be vulnerable. We got that a little bit also with Riggs in the first Lethal Weapon as well:) Excellent discussion of this classic Christmas Film:)
Thank you! :)
Thank you for refreshing my mind on this film. I do remember Tom Hanks being in it and being charming, and he wasn’t the villain, but this one did kind of bleed into other titles that came out around 1980. I need to revisit this one:)
You’re welcome!
Joel, thank you for all of the kind words! I'm glad you like it as much as I enjoyed making it for you!!! Tyson, Thank YOU, for keeping it safe and making sure Joel got it in one piece! I wanted to makesure the lamp was period to Ed Geins lamp. The lamp is indeed from the early 60's. I also wanted something unique, I was so happy when I found that particular lamp. It was a pleasure crafting that for you . I think the trick was not going too far with the design and keeping it "realistic". Next time I could source REAL teeth for you. Lol. Enjoy!
Thank you so much, R.J.! I truly love it and really appreciate the craftsmanship and artistry you put into it!
Beautiful and extremely well executed. The understated creepiness makes it that much creepier. "Are those real teeth? No?...Ah, dang it..." Quite possibly the most Joel reaction to an art piece.
🤣 Thanks man! And I love the “understated creepiness” observation.
That's very cool. Wish I had that skill to handcraft pieces of that quality. Much like Melissa James and her clay figures, of which I have 3 🤙
Yes! I have my Stripe Gremlin she sent me proudly displayed in the video shop! :)
Well done. Creepshow vibes mixed with Tales from the Cryot. Enjoyed it 🤙
Thank you! 😊
Special Special!!! Absolutely loved this. Great job my friend and everyone involved.
Thank you so much, brother!
From a long time RMG listener, I can tell Joel's sons are getting older because his cussing is getting more prevalent. Teenagers bring out the best in you 😂
🤣True. Plus DIE HARD also brings out the best in me.
That was awesome! Would love to see more of these on your channel
Thank you! That’s the plan! :)
I love this movie!
Great one Joel. I really enjoyed it Good acting. Great cinematography. I liked your stranger in dark short you put out couple years ago
Thank you, brother! 😊
Looks more like pisuzu than Arnold the munchie
🤔
Loved both F/X & F/X 2.. 😎🍿🎥🎬
Yes!🙌
If you were Joel's friend in the late 80's or early 90, this was required viewing. Also, Joel does not need an excuse to kick off a double feature. I still remember the plan to watch all the Friday the 13th movies...lots of Jolt was included in that plan.
🤣🤣🤣 #facts
Great film
💯
I loved this movie as a kid!
Yes! It’s a classic (or should be)! :)
Great work, guys! Loved it, super fun. Loved the ending too!
Thank you, my friend!
Well done! Just the right amount of suspense, creepy and gore. A new holiday classic!
Thank you, brother! :)
👏👏👏👏 Great! Makes me feel like Bah! Humusbug! Thank you.
🤣 Thank YOU for watching!
@@momandpopvideoshop Thank You for creating such a clever, entertaining, creepy video.
LOVE IT!!
Thank you, my friend! :)
Well done!
Thank you, Matt!
Special, Special! Kudos, gentleman!
Thank you, man! :)
Awesome work!!!
Thank you so much! 😊
This is awesome!
Thank you!🙏
Now i know what happened to the kid with goggles waiting in line for Santa in A Christmas Story.
🤣🤣🤣
This is a good one, totally fun and it just keeps moving. I did not feel like they overdid any of the government ops background, just a fun and worthy of an annual watch.
💯 I think fun and entertaining is a great way to describe it!
Here's a another fun definition of the word cove from the dictionary... 'cove noun [C] (MAN) UK old-fashioned a man: He's an odd-looking cove.' I don't know if the phrase ever made it across the pond (or to the 1960's), but I hope it adds to peoples enjoyment of the movie.
I've never heard it used that way! Thanks for the added info!
Very clean camera work, guys. Special special lol
😂 Thank you, my friend!
I was looking at picking a Christmas movie I haven't seen in for a while and thought why not lethal weapon? Had no idea it was the same screenwriter as long kiss goodnight
Yes! And imho, it would be a great Christmas-action double feature with the classic LETHAL WEAPON!
