      However, in 1954 when this guitar was built American ego was well earned. That’s also why most guitars even today are still copies of American guitars so perhaps it’s still earned…. When you find something that’s vintage and original to collector value becomes very subjective

      make sure the "Note Chase" button is on and it will work. Its the upper left button. (PLEASE DOWNLOAD AND READ THE USER GUIDE FROM THE STRIKE DOWNLOADS FROM THE ALESIS PRODUCT PAGE!!!) However be careful and I recommend turning the button off while you are adjusting a particular pad because its easy to accidently hit another pad in the middle of adustments and not realize it and then you've gone down a rabbit hole. @AllenLind I've been reading thru the manual and things are making more sense and am becoming more comfortable with making adjustments. However I have not come across anything that says or shows me if it is possible to save velocity adjustments per kit? Is it possible?

    • @AllenLind
      @AllenLind 2 місяці тому

      @@ironmike92 well you can't do full velocity settings like triggers overall because those are global and you only have one set of trigger settings in the whole module which is the case in all brands However, in each voice, you have the VEL tab. The first parameter for each layer is velocity level and this does pretty much I believe what you're asking for. I have a library of almost 30 GB of sounds and hundreds of kits taken from all the major sources has a lot of these things fine tuned already but as an FYI, if you lower the level on a particular voice/layer, let's say use the symbol as an example you'll get more consistent hits for inconsistent trigger surfaces like ride bell start w 72 on the ride bell and see what happens) . For everything other than a few of the cymbals you should have thise set to 99 and you'll get the most realistic response (snare and Tom's) and you could find that from there. I mean if you use 50 kids it's a lot of effort to go through them all but if you use a few main kids, you can easily fine-tune that. And there are a few other parameters within that tab that are also very interesting and fun the mess around with. If you're interested in my library DM me on Facebook and if you're not on Facebook, let you know I'll give you another way. Also I have my trigger settings which are likely as good as they can get (some people like minor tweaks) that I can share but again, the midi ox (or similar for Mac) .

    The real answer is whether you play traditional grip. It’s easier to get into a cross stick with the butt end when playing traditional, but easier to use the tip when playing matched. I would agree that the sound difference is negligible.

    • @AllenLind
      @AllenLind 3 місяці тому

      Absolutely ! This wasn't about what to use. It's about whether they sound different. Lots of people still use butt end for different reasons. This was born out of a little debate on Facebook by someone disparaging drummers who use the tip end as he said it doesn't sound good. I counters by saying it sounds fine if you know what you're doing lol. I literally made this video in 10 minutes.

    I'm sorry to interfere in this discussion as I am no drummer, but when you test the significant details of these things, you gotta make sure that the recording sound quality is UN-questionable (meaning; of the highest quality)... and honestly, the sound quality is really terrible - which leaves no room to even compare in this debate!

    • @AllenLind
      @AllenLind 3 місяці тому

      No you don't . Drummers will get the point. That level of minute detail is not noticeable when music is playing with you.

  • @BigBoysStudios
    @BigBoysStudios 3 місяці тому

    I respectfully disagree. The butt end of the strick is heavier and creates a louder sound with less effort. That equates to more control and greater range of dynamics. It also means it can cut through when things are a little louder. These things are important in live and recording situations. I've done my own tests, on various drums. And I've taught drums to more than 1,000 students. Now, I will also agree with @tjroy ... the precise placement of the stick is massively important ... as is the player, the particular drum, the choice of sticks and the tuning. In terms of tone, these things will have a much greater influence. But the fact remains that the butt end gives a larger dynamic range and a more consistent cross-stick sound.

  • @tjroy
    @tjroy 3 місяці тому

    I've been having the same conversation bout TUNING too..... DON'T WORRY BOUT THE ACTUAL NOTE if your in a REAL band, your gonna use DIFFERENT KEYS which makes the ACTUAL NOTE, IRRELEVANT. WHAT MATTERS IS THE INTERVALS BETWEEN THE NOTES.

    • @AllenLind
      @AllenLind 3 місяці тому

      This is true!

    • @AllenLind
      @AllenLind 3 місяці тому

      Dw shells have a natural note resonance and it's printed inside each drum, but that does not mean you're supposed to tune your drum to that note or pitch it only helps them make sure that the shells and the resonant interval between them are proper so you can get proper tuning ranges , which is essentially what you're saying. Again you don't need to tune your drums to a specific pitch

  • @tjroy
    @tjroy 3 місяці тому

    EXACTLY!!!!!!! EXACTLY!!!!!!! I USE THE TIP ENDI!!!!!! WHY RISK POTENTIAL CATASTROPHE BYE FLIPPING YOUR STICK?????? think it matters on the player & the size of stick. I can literally use either end & it sounds exactly the same. Its hitting the "sweet spot". That what matters.

  • @howabouthardno4834
    @howabouthardno4834 3 місяці тому

    Tip end of the stick is going to give a slightly sharper hit than the butt namely because it's skinnier at the tip. Yes moving it around changes the sound, and it is more or less the same sound on both ends, one is just more dull and to an untrained ear it's difficult to notice. Does it matter? No, unless you use ahead sticks like me; the sound of aluminum stick(butt) on rim isn't fun

    • @AllenLind
      @AllenLind 3 місяці тому

      Well that's why when you side stick us in gb the tip end you push the stick further up to get the thicker portion of the shank on the rim for the sidestick sound. In the main section of the video I use both ends for a variety of sounds and when you match the diffeeent sound to each end they are pretty much indistinguishable from each other. I use ahead sticks as sometimes well and still manage a dedent sidestick from them but you really have to find the sweet spot and hit a little harder.

      @@AllenLind Not only can I hear a difference, you're playing everything very far in, and well past the sweet spot where the sound is very clunky. Your sticks are also chunky, probably 2B's, 5B at least, they lack much of a taper, that contributes - different sticks will land the taper on the rim and there's a BIG difference in that case. The taper on the stick changes how far in or out the sweet spot is, and that changes the length of the stick bridging the hoop. Put your stick resting on the hoop and play that stick with another stick as you slide it further and further in, the pitch will change as you go

    That snare sounds killer, no matter how you adjusted it! I would absolutely keep that drum, too! One of my acoustic kits is an extremely rare mint condition1952 Leedy & Ludwig Knob Tension drum set that has a similar tuning concept, having upper and lower tuning knobs going around each drum instead of lugs and tension rods. The design was innovative but flawed. The heads are very difficult to replace and the ones on the snare drum aren't able to be highly tuned without the internal mechanism eventually failing. It appears that Dialtune has finally gotten it right!! Do you think they'll ever produce complete drum kits? I got an Alesis Strike Pro SE a couple years ago. Much of your content is some of the most helpful on the internet! Your UA-cam videos were critical to my understanding of their complex operation. A thousand thanks, sir! Your work is greatly appreciated.

    Allen can you do a walk-through video on how to export and impot SD3 kits into Strike Pro SE module? I don't think there really is a video online anywhere that shows how to do this step by step. I think it would be very helpful to many of us that are newer to e-drumming. Great chops as always Allen! Really love the creativity in your solos.

      Hi. If I get a chance I will but in order to get the samples, you need to buy Lustark SDSE and of course whatever software you want to import most of drum VST's are supported by that tool, but it becomes quite costly if you don't already have this software. I have a studio so I have tons of it already and I've been doing these imports since 2019 . Just fyi - I have an enormous library already created and if you're interested me on Facebook and I'll give you details

    Do you have some kind of reverb on? Does this kit have that? So it can sound like a stadium type sound.. thanks for making this alesis kit better

      Hi! First, I'm using mostly all imported custom samples that I created for my kit. I have a huge 29GB library of VST imports that I use mostly for drums as I think stock cymbals are as goiod as any. If you're interested PM on FB msgr. Otherwise i used the 8 outs into my interface and did do some post processing on the drums with some added verb and compression but not a lot. The 8 outputs provide dry sounds with no kit FX and are made for recording or live sound. A little gating on the snare and additonal reverbs for studio sound. For the cros stick I use the snbrass202_Xst pitched up +2 I think. Reach out on Facebook and I can help more and tell about my library

      Well most people found this very helpful so maybe you need glasses.. HOWEVER , obviously you DIDNT READ THE DESCRIPTION WHERE I HAVE A LINK TO CLEAR PICS!! THESE WILL GET YOU IN BALLPARK Also the hihat stand controller is also USELESS. I use a DM continuous pedal controller now and have for 3 years+. In the same description you DID NOT read, the is a link to a vid on that. I'm also betting you did NOT read the manual/user guide you can download from the Alesis roduct page so you get what you give... You MUST read at east 3 times while sitting at your kit. IF YOU DONT UNDERSTAND THE PARAMETERS YOU WILL NEVER GET ANY OF THIS RIGHT. Good luck and try reading other comments. Youre in the minority PS - On the pdel triggers, try LOG1 or EXP 1 on the top curve and either LOG 2 or 3 on the bottom. Depends on your playing but the hihat stand controller ALL suck - roland, goedrum etc - at least in this range. ALSO - Balance the foot level with the overall hihat sounds to get realistic close and chick. The the HH has 3 sounds. Edge, Bow and Foot

    ive had my strike pro, from when they first went to market. After watching your video, Ive discovered Ive not been using my snare head trigger, because the sensitivity was set too low, & the rim was set too high, taking over the snare. Anyway I just adjusted all my triggers, & the snare sounds so much better now. Thanks for the knowledge.

      Yw! Watch all my vids at the playlist link. They are all helpful. I've been using it since it came out also in 2019, at least the SE. I also have an incredible library. I've imported sounds that I've been putting together since then and if you're interested, I can give you information. I assume you're on Facebook find me there and DM me.. ua-cam.com/play/PLWMSKolvMwTohPaxuN77iWmNKhSlare4k.html&si=gwpNYzZoTEfh2AzL

      FYI - Always happy to help. The new kit is pretty nice, but you certainly don't need to go out and buy it because the strike can sound just as good and play just as well.
