Hi, Im trying to get into game developing and pixel art, do you have a beginner video perphaps to see how you started this project? Or any advice to noobs?
I've been planning to do a dev log showing the original design and evolution to current day look at some point. Currently focused on getting enough assets together to launch the steam page. Best advice to get started, study art you love, deconstruct what makes it tick.
24:11 Admittedly I don't know much about SDL, but it sounds like you need a shader. You can combine an animated perlin noise (or similar) texture (using the gradient as the alpha channel), use a threshold value where any value below the threshold is given an alpha of zero, and any value above the threshold is given an alpha of one. Then as you gradually raise the threshold, the texture dissolves away.
Interesting approach, I'll have to consider it moving forward. For now I've got a simple mask out working by modifying the source rectangle height.

You must choose your own fate! SDL2 is stable and SDL3 is on it's way, they have an ABI release now!

@@ArcticArmBoy It's trusted by game devs I respect, it's backed by valve, it's cross-platform compatible , and I haven't had any trouble building the things I want
