Over the last few years I have read a number of books on quantitative investing which I found very convincing. My investment style has definitely shifted that way, and about 15% of my portfolio is now run quantitatively. That proportion is likely to steadily rise as time passes. If you don't want to read books, this video is a good introduction to the subject in only 70 minutes.

TRANSLATION: They recruit any one with a degree (i.e. underwater basket weaving), no experience necessary because they will work cheaper, MUST be a yes man. This company is one the worst managed companies I have ever seen. They hire fresh college grads, with degrees having nothing to do with the industry. These grads then come in and try and tell employees who have 30 years of service how to do their job. While I do believe management oversight is necessary, the manner with which it is done is a laughingstock. They still make BILLIONS in spite of theirselves. The amount of waste and money lost due to mismanagement is staggering. It would be scary to see their profits should they ever figure out how to eliminate waste and manage crews. Instead of trying to improve efficiency and reduce waste, their solution is the typical republican (which I am), greedy executive response: Cut employees wages, reduce healthcare coverage and increase the employees premiums. This is going on RIGHT NOW, while the company profits BILLIONS. Heaven forbid the overpaid executives give up a few million in bonuses. CARL ICE, MATT ROSE AND EXECS = THE DEFINITION OF CORPORATE GREED.
