Kingmaker is a great game! The old Avalon Hill basic rules were only about 4 pages. The Gibson's reprint gives you tons of optional games rules and player aids. It's not as bad as it looks...

Added to the collection because seemed like a fun theme and do love Disney/Pixar (some are very Disney, others also have a good vagueness to them that works for Dixit/Stella). Checked to see if other boxes seemed to have a weird bend on the card slots. Not sure why it slopes rather than having a flat bottom (my cards also came a bit springy/bendy so that made me critical -- cards are doing better now having placed in some heavy books to flatten out).

A really nice package. something to look out for. will you do a playthrough? Did you have a chance to play the Rogue Angels prototype? I'd love to hear somebody compare the two as Rogue was given the -Mass Effect in all but name- praise.

This was on my radar. I like that they're trying to do a campaign oriented game without the bloat associated with those sorts of games. There's a disappointing lack of player guides though, especially considering that bag of tokens and there being what seems like a big use of symbology. Bit weird there's 5 player characters, but it's a 4 player game?

Wow, having watched that, I agree that its full of beautiful items. A lot of detail into the box, considering even the inside of the cover lid had artwork on it. That's some nice detailing.

Hello Adam, I appreciate the in-depth, extended unboxing. Thank you for that, I really liked watching it. I didn’t want to add a plastic insert, as to me it didn’t fit well with the theme and everything that is in the game. The manufacturer also didn’t really make plastic inserts if I remember correctly. But I am considering it for the reprint with the new manufacturer, or at least I want to make a few more divides, so that there is fully fitting spaces for the other cards as well, not just for the Halt! cards. Those big cards are the only reference cards, but you will find that out if you haven't already. The box is indeed for the wooden components and it should all just fit, except for the first player block. Although maybe some people will keep the dice out as well. And the two bags are indeed for the tokens. I separated them between the basic and scenario-related ones myself. This was the factory standard size and shape for their punchboards, so I didn’t really have a choice with that folding. I also would have preferred it as separate sheets. Reprint copies will probably have just normal separate sheets, as I am going now with a different manufacturer. Happy to see you managed to play it the same day and liked it. I also appreciate the introduction with the explanation why you are interested in the game. I hope you figured out which were the real reference cards and what the other ones are for that you thought were reference cards.

Shouldn't the trees be scored as in the image though? So level 1 tree = 1 point, level 2 tree = 3 pts, level 3 tree = 7 pts? It seems the same for mountains. Also, I am a bit confused about buildings. It seems that single red token is not enough to be considered a building? It says "Building is made of 1 red token, placed on top of 1 brown, gray, or red token". The image is consistent with the description, so I imagine it has to be either 2 red token on top of each other, or red+brown or red+gray. Lastly, at 13:00 you say "this is a 4 point river", which I assume means that it is supposed to be worth 4 points. The image however, says that 4-long river equals to 8 points.

Thanks for the playthrough! It helped quite a bit in understanding the Ranger and how we resolve the expedition cards. My only concern was that you are in winter with only one sprite and one villager. I looked back through the playthroughs and you did gain more but it seems you may have saved them with the character. This would only happen if you play that character in the next season. If you decide to change characters you would place all sprites/villagers at the tower to be available to your new character. Page 31 of the Town Charter.

It's too gamey and suffers from all officially-licensed Star Wars miniatures games lately: It does not feel like Star Wars. Shatterpoint in particular with how it is set up for both players to field balanced small strike teams feels like a saturday morning tv superhero-cartoon with a Star Wars skin. A gorgeous Star Wars skin, but no real substance beyond it. A Star Wars game should embrace a non-tournament game style with asymetric forces fighting for very different mission objectives and with slanted vicory conditions, just like in the movies and shows. Especially in miniatures gaming, this is possible. All these games which delude themselves into being as "balanced" as possible to make them tournament-viable just miss out on a vast number of possibilities and playstyles, which also limits the design space for the developers. This approach would demand some thinking and collaboration of the players, though... What a shame.

Thanks for your unboxing although the Days of Wonder 3 minute video would answer a lot of your questions about game play. As a TTR fan, I’m interested in trying a small box (city) version of TTR. Berlin looks like a mini version of Rails and Sails with interesting decisions to be made about which type of transportation to use to connect your routes. Thinking a small box game will be a good way to orient someone to TTR environment who may not be a game player. Also a quick filler game and for travel.

3:44 I believe you should shuffle the 3 expedition cards, not place them in order. It is described on page 16 in the top of the page 36:20 If you spend the compass in position 3, you do not have it there, when you solve Encounter (row) 3. You do one row at the time, and for each row first do the preparation, and then resolve exploration. Thanks for the playthrough. It helped a lot getting som other challenges figured out. The Ranger is a bit complex to understand.
