Can you do more on expressions? I use a lot of expressions when I talk. And/or can you do one on slang nouns and expressions? For example " Cute as a button." "Social butterfly." "Dumb as a brick." "Dummy." "Shithead." How do you call someone a jerk? Thanks.

I had a 6th grade friend in 1975 who was a recent arrival from Vietnam after the war. He had a sister who was two years older than we were. He dared me to say "I love you" to her in Vietnamese and I thought the sound was "doy eu 'em"....she laughed pretty good at my efforts.

Awesome lesson, truly appreciate it. Side note: Can't hear any difference in pronunciation of: không and hồng, pronounced within a minute of each other in the examples. Must be my old ears.. or is it just southern pronunciation?

I used to think the whole concept of Esperanto was useless, but after beginning to learn Vietnamese and the pronoun usage in every day conversation, I can understand why so few foreigners try to learn Vietnamese. And I can see why the concept of Lingua Franca has so much appeal. Not sure why I find this so difficult, I'm quite good with Russian and Mandarin.. I'm finding Vietnamese pronoun usage more difficult and complex than Russian verbs of motion(!) I guess, I'll just make mistakes :-)

And I thought Mandarin Chinese was difficult... yikes. Wonderful lesson, by the way. Teacher is A+++ ... for Westerner, just wrapping the brain around pronoun usage will seem maddeningly complicated.
