    I wouldn't entirely say that's the correct way, depends on water depth, current and most importantly what the fish want at that time. I've caught them essentially "walking" the jig, by just barley twitching the rod tip, while also doing some of the most aggressive jerks possible. Both of which they eat in the mouth

    • @HighBankFishing
      @HighBankFishing 3 дні тому

      I cant think a single reasonable argument in support of 'the most agressive jerks poasible' making any sense especially and specifically for salmon in rivers which is what our context is here..u care to elaborate on that?

    • @steelheadseeker
      @steelheadseeker 3 дні тому

      @HighBankFishing I guess it doesn't completely relate to the video perfectly. I kinda went the route of most effective ways to catch the most fish, while your method was set on the best method to catch fish and not foul hook any. Yes, your method obviously works, but it's necessary to change up twitching techniques even if that means having to release a few extra snagged fish. I've still foul hooked fish even doing an almost identical method to yours, I don't think you can really escape not foul hooking fish, so you should go with the method that's most effective, even if that means twitching pretty aggressively... Sorry for the ramble on, just had to throw some info out 🤙

      Is all good mate.Sharing is caring 😁.I agree it may make a difference if u twitch quicker or slower or if u focus more on the up and down motion at times or more on light jigs in a straight line..but jigging like youre setting the hook contributes nothing to making a fish bite..it makes no sense that it does..if u want the jig to go up the column simply pick up your rod high(but gently) and then let it drop..the fish always bite on the drop and not the pick up...so apart from some kind of bad habit - the only thing youre doing ripping hard is create commotion and hugely incereasing your chance to snag - in other words nothing good

Even if I was just doing a barebones bucktail jig like that one, I would at least make sure the thread collar is clean. All it really costs is a bit of extra thread and an extra 5 seconds on the vise.

      Preach brotha. No spot is truly secret. Why not share some knowledge so everyone can have some fun, and maybe your state will notice the increase in fishing interest and start to put more resources into wildlife conservation. If a place I like to fish is heavily pressured I’ll just make a hike and try to find success in unsuspecting places. And that right there is the most rewarding feeling.
