Blame it on the cheap homeowners, If they tested for asbestos or lead the cleanup cost would be 20K+ more than the house is worth, This is why you can buy homes in some states for $1 because of this problem & The taxes are 5K a year
Its going in the landfill 😊
Trusses are junk framing!! Stick framing is by far the way to go. I wouldn't build a shit house with a truss!!
Well trusses come with a multitude of major problems in anything but a free span application. Don’t expect you to understand or to be able to explain it with knowledge.
This is NOT from AC condensate. Overflow drain was obviously used as a floor drain for basement. The large pieces of junk would never come from condensate. The basement floor was likely cleaned with bleach, which would have oxidized the metal strainer.
So many people who make videos have no idea what they are talking about and most likely could never make even one pay check working construction.
Take note kids. Not everything on youtube is helpful
Studs 16 oc and joist 24 oc are not all going to be stacked. Add interior sheer walls that need at least 2 ft minimum sheer panel and things dont always line up. Best practice, yes, but noot the end of the world
The non-expanding foam marked "WINDOW AND DOOR" was $1 more than the other one. That, or they had regular gap filler on hand and they said "good enough". This company should win a prize that involves meeting a celebrity ... judge.
How to Frame! 🤟
Its obvious of this dudes sensationalism, hes trying to make $ on his videos. Its not drain tile, its waterguard, and its designed to sit on the footer!! It probably could of been deeper, but would require chipping the footer away. Those cracks could also been caused by curing to fast. Is there a dehumidifier in the basement and was it on??? Im not saying there isnt scammers, because there is for sure, but you wont actually know until you pull up a piece of concrete and look at the work!!!
Waterproofing doesn't start on the inside.
It’s amazing what getting your downspouts operating properly will do 😂
Are you even sure even they dug a drain? A real scammer would just scrape some portland cement on the surface to give the appearance.
Transition from 2x4 to 2x6 plates--you can't make a plate continuous. It should have a metal strap however. So it wasn't done right until they add the metal strap. Also the little block at the intersection shows a mistake as well. Actually that is not how a partition is framed. I paused the first frame and I had a hard time figuring what a lot of that framing is for. It looks like they were making it harder than it is.
Let's ignore how poorly that wall is braced with all those openings, and worry about stacking joists over studs.
while stacking the studs works when the floor and walls are on the same centers, but if your wall framing is 16" O.C and floor is 19.2" it just can t happen. also the only utilities that should ever go in an exterior wall is Electrical, and maybe an HVAC Lineset. these people in the south that put plumbing in the exterior walls are just LAZY. they often Pay the price when there is a freak cold snap. Stack when reasonable, but itst not imperative
They will never line up perfectly with doors and windows below them with king studs, trimmer studs, headers etc. They'll be close, but not really needed with a double top plate.
Cool 😎
This makes no sense. Did you just walk into someone else's site and start talking? "Acrosst" is not a word.
squeak squeak squeak 😂
I don't think you understand trusses. We used to shim and nail them in the old days. Engineers told us let them float, but we had to fasten the walls to something to keep them from moving.....then the floating truss clip was invented.
Looks like the second story was added onto partial existing framing?
Studs on 16” center with a double top plate.Joists not required to be over the studs.
Love your channel!🙂🙊🙉🙈🙃!
You've put my mind at ease! Thank you!
If floor isn't sagging or uneven when it used to be level, don't stress. If there's cracks, obvious water damage, if it shifts under foot then look for the cause.
Hacks! They probably use a chain saw to cut sheathing.
Don't shim trusses until the house has a load on it. The crown of the trusses is part of the truss engineering. More importantly you need to be checking the bracing details on engineered drawing from the truss manufacturer. Looks to me in the video that there is possibly bracing and "strong backs" missing.
Thank you for letting me know because I'm planning on redoing my entire roof in a month
Roofing contractors are about the worst. Get at least 3 quotes, ensure they specify all the components/materials they are going to use, including the brand and item number, and make sure they specify the scope of the work, IOW, what work is included on the quote. Your roof consists of way more than just shingles. A complete roof job includes replacement of EVERYTHING but the sheathing, unless, of course, it's rotted or damaged and needs to be replaced. Also, I do not recommend singling over old shingles. Of you're going to do it, do it right, have the old roof stripped down to the sheathing. Also, check your local building building inspection department for any code requirements associated with your roof, including ventilation requirements. If your contract doesn't specify ventilation, ask why and insist on it. Also, make sure the quote includes removal of all trash, including dumpster fees and dump fees, two different things, as well as protection for any landscaping directly below the roofline and a complete magnetic sweep of your yard and driveway for nails. I also recommend that you be there for the entire job. Take before photos, progress photos at every stage, including the final. Make sure your before photos include any and all landscaping, hardscape, decking, windows, doors, and siding. Inspect EVERYTHING before you write the final check! If possible, hire a drone photographer for befire and after photos of the roof itself, paying close attention to any crickets, chimney flashing, etc. Good luck!
Omg 😲
ooof .....that is a problem
rock solid
Right on
No squash blocks above the beam???
Not required with this system but great eye so others will think about it. Thank you
Nice to see a good construction report for once. I would have wanted it primed, myself.
Glad you enjoyed it
Code requirement vs. best practice. Best practice isn't always "the best". You don't stack when you want to limit holes being drilled in floor joist. I'm a formally trained carpenter, almost 40 years in construction and I would not have an issue with this if it were my own house.
Why the fuck would they do that
those 2x4 are not holding those trusses up it that is not going to cause drywall cracking. stop playing inspector you clear dont know that you talking about
Screw metel angle to inside wall plates flush with top of walls.fasten rock in between trusses to metal. The metal will hold the corner down when trusses lift and lower. No cracked corners
Thank you
@ConstructionConsumerAdvocacy glad to share a remedy. Got tired of warranty repairs climbing in attics and screwing plywood on top of walls to keep the rock down to the wall plates.
Don’t they also make dry wall grid systems, then you can avoid trusses altogether. I know, more money.
Where is the termite shield? Whoever built this is incompetent.
This guy is a asshatt of the highest level. Hope he never does a inspection on anything I work on. I would hate to have to run him off site.
That's what happens when you can't layout
The inspector found exactly what was wrong with the plumbing. A good job in my book
So im assuming you need a Licensed Electrician there to turn all the light switches on?
So HOW is the inspector supposed to inspect if stuff isn't turned ON? THAT is the point of an inspection. If there is a problem beforehand, then the utility in question (electrical, plumbing or gas) should have a lockout on it with a tag as to WHY it is locked out and WHO has locked it. THAT is standard for industrial.
Good thing that licensed plumber flooded the house instead of an idiot inspector. Maybe you should have hired the inspector to do the plumbing because the guy you got, Mr George, he no good.
Yeah thats how video started off right? "Luckily the plumber was here to flood the house, he expects it." So like your plumber does this on the regular?
Irresponsible to not have your water already turned on and issues like this worked out before the inspection.
Contact the owner. Determine why the water is off, it's usually off for a reason...
Truss designer and prefab wall panel designer here. Typically we are instructed by the structural engineer to NOT have interior non-load-bearing walls in contact with the trusses so that the walls will not transfer load to the floor structure at a location not designed to support it. This would include shimming the plate under the trusses.
Is he wrong? Will the weight of the drywall close the gap and crack the drywall? Would really like to know the correct answer
@@genollanas2110 Well let me start by saying I am NOT really knowledgeable about installing drywall. My experience is in design of trusses and prefab walls. I know the engineers I work with want trusses to be able to flex without transferring load to non-bearing walls. I also know that the builders I work with dont want the movement of the trusses cracking drywall. This usually means that we are limited to a small deflection tolerance, i.e. the amount the truss can move under load. If there is a way to install drywall to prevent cracking due to truss movement, a professional drywaller would be the one who would know.
If you are a truss designer, then you know that drywall hangs on the trusses and if the trusses are allowed to move, they crack your drywall.
No, the drywall will not close the gap and stop the movement of the truss. Someone is misleading us about a truss designer. They are supposed to be Engineers like me. Also glue your drywall to the studs and trusses. This help stop nail pops which will happen when trusses move, and they all do. 100% of the time.
@@ConstructionConsumerAdvocacy as you say below, trusses move, "they all do".
This is why if I ever get a chance to build my own home, I will not use trusses.
I would agree but 90% of home buyers can't afford to buy a house built with quality materials and methods. They would much rather spend money on counter tops than the roof structure or a quality heating/air conditioning system. THE MARKET is what drives the cheap construction/homes.
looks like the basement my dad built in our house in the early 80’s 👍
Agree with the comment about using a line or a laser. Basement floors are never flat.
A sill seal product should always be used between the top of the concrete foundation. And the first layer of the frame sill. Which should always be presure treated lumber. Rolls of foam are available for purchase. The product is typically referred to as sillseal.
