      I think four to five minutes per boil should be fine. So in total anywhere from twelve to fifteen minutes would be good.

    This castle was built in 1580 during the period from the 15th to the 17th century when Japan was in a state of war, and is a valuable cultural heritage that has remained intact to the present day.

    • @thisoldjapanesehouse
      @thisoldjapanesehouse Місяць тому

      The history is so interesting. From the grand daughter of Tokugawa Ieyasu, Princess Sen to the people of Himeiji's effort to save the castle from disrepair in the Meiji period, to its survival through the war when it was blackened to disguise it, and now to a world heritage site, it is truly a blessing. As a half Japanese, I am so proud of its history and I hope that it will stand for many centuries more for the world to enjoy. Thank you for watching and commenting.

    Algae generally indicates two things: too many nutrients and too much light. It looks like a very shallow pond? If there's anyway to get more good plant matter growing in it to use up the nutrients and provide shade that can help cut down on algae.

    • @thisoldjapanesehouse
      @thisoldjapanesehouse Місяць тому

      The pond definitely gets a lot of light. As for the depth, even when completely filled with water, it can't be more than two feet deep. I'll try adding some more plant matter and see how that goes. Thank you.

    I live in America and plan on building a Japanese inspired home soon. Where could I buy materials like the shoji doors and tatami mats?

    • @thisoldjapanesehouse
      @thisoldjapanesehouse 2 місяці тому

      Hi Kyleechelle, That sounds wonderful. I would suggest try searching for J-Life International. I know you can get tatami mats there, and maybe shoji doors as well. Another option would be to search for Martial Arts supply stores near your area. They usually supply tatami mats for martial arts dojos for tournaments and you maybe able to get Shoji there as well. In Japan, of course, there are lots of stores where you can custom order tatami and hire carpenters to make exactly what you want, but there's also the cost and shipping so that is a consideration. I hope you can find what you are looking for. A Japanese inspired home sounds so nice. =)

    From what I have seen others do, you could remove the hardware, and assess it. Determine if it is good enough to clean, or replace it with new. Are there used hardware stores there, where you might get vintage replacements? So I vote remove it. 🙂

    • @thisoldjapanesehouse
      @thisoldjapanesehouse 5 місяців тому

      I think looking into vintage replacements might not be a bad idea. I know that there are stores that sell modern copies with working keys, so that could also be an option. Ok, one for remove. Counted. Thank you so much for your comment. =)
