Proof that huge hives are a lot more productive
Hey Joel, glad to have watched your video! AndyMac
Hope you guys plan to put together more videos. Great job 👍 I subscribed 👍 thanks good health and God bless 👍
What's the name and brand of the uncapper? I think it's very handy 🙂
🤩
When you merge both hives into one only queen , do they swarm ? How often? Or how you control that situation. Surprise me and tell me they don’t swarm... Regards. Fred.
You must have left out some of the process in your video....when you were reassembling the hive I saw no way to keep the two queens separated....and how do you keep rain from getting in the hive when you offset the boxes......seems possible...but from the video and discussion I never saw or heard...the convincing methodology that would work.....
He removed the 2nd queen he not running a 2 queen colony. He in reality just joining two different colonies. A two queen colony can be used often call a super hive. Split a double deep brood boxes with a double screen board for 24 hour add a laying queen let her lay for 7 days. Remove the double screen board add a queen xcluder then another queen xcluder on top of top brood boxes. Then add supers . Worker bees will everyone will get along. Studies show only a 50 to 60% increase in honey production on the total number of test hive. A few in the study did produce 300% more honey. Some of the hive didnt have there queen excepted "which does happen" so that would show zero %increase. If I remember right the study was done by Floyd Moeller.
I like what you do, well explained I am looking at a 2 queen system to use on a bee trailor(not yet finished) .The hives will be permanently on the trailer. Next month I will trial side by side brood boxes on the deck with honey above, If it works well I will reduce my hive numbers and get more trailers. I did your system on a winter Karri flow during winter with some week hives it worked but in the spring the Q.below didn't requeen after swarming that's ok I got rid of a poor Q and made lots of honey
My nucs have screened bottom too. After mating, sometimes I find my queens under the screen trying to get in, they cant find the entrance. Do you have the same problem too?
I have 50 hives screen bottomed about 15 years. I had that happen once. They built a hive below the screen under the other hive 2 years ago but i put them in another hive and they are in their third year as my best resource hive. If shed gone back into the hive they'd have killed her because the other hive had a queen of its own.
Thank you all. How long do you keep in the 2 queen hive? You removed 1 queen in a nuc. I gather to make more honey. Thank you
Loved this!
Enjoying your videos! I received my package today and I was so excited! The soaps are beautiful and the honey cream is delicious!
