I started fishing with my Grandfather when I was about 4 years old. I was hooked from day one.
I have owned numerous boats and now have a 20' Wilson Flyer. My fishing passions in the UK are Bass, Pollack and Conger. I have travelled extensively to fish but the greatest place on the planet has to be the Gulf of Carpentaria at the top end of Australia which I have visited 7 times.

4th September 2024 Danny and Paul on the Bass
New club member Paul joined Danny and me on Shockwave today to try trolling for Bass.
Danny had seven fish, returning five of them to fight another day and Paul had two beauties the biggest of which came to his lure less than 100 yards from the beach.
A good session was had by all.

This has been a great year for Bass fishing from Hastings. Forecast was for light winds all day but as you will see it started blowing early so we we did not have a full day out there. Had a couple of undersize fish and a couple that got away but still retained four fish over 50cm.
17th August 2024 My Granddaughter's first fishing trip

A short session as it was my granddaughters first time on a boat. Needn't of worried though as she took to it like a duck to water. Sophia caught four bass two of which were over 50cm. I think and hope that she is now hooked on fishing. Many anglers who have been at it for years still only dream of 50cm plus bass. 30th July with Alex on the bass and pollack

Great day out with Alex today. Had some good size bass early on and then out to the wrecks for some pollack. We also had some quite large mackerel. The wind picked up sooner than it should which made for an interesting steam back to shore. P.s Alex caught far more than me today. "Good on ya mate."

One of those days for me, but Alex did well. He had plaice, dabs, bream and pollack. I eventually managed one bass to take home. But it is always good to be out on the water even if I am not catching the fish.

We covered a lot of miles in search of the fish today. Lots of other boats about all seeming to want to fish in the same spots. All came good in the end with 3 Pollack up to 7lbs and 3 Bass over 50cm, biggest was around 6lb. Clear skies and baking hot. A lot of wind was forecast today so we stayed inshore on the Bass marks. Trolling for Bass is one of my favorite types of fishing. We did get caught in a heavy downpour of rain but still had a very enjoyable day.

Had a great day on the pollack today. We visited a few wrecks around 10 miles from Hastings. We were also boarded by the MMO (see separate video for that encounter)

Not one of Alex's happier days. Lost end tackle in wreck, lost a nice Pollack when his hook broke, lost a lure and leader round the propeller and he hooked a large Bass that came near the boat and then spat the lure. On a brighter note I had a great day only losing one lure and boom to the wreck gods.
Winching onto berth

Some viewers have asked how I get the boat onto her berth. So here is a short video of it. There is a main winch that pulls us to the berth and then I attach a smaller one to pull her off the runway and onto her hard standing.
Coming Ashore

I have been asked to show how we bring the boat ashore. It does not always go according to plan as, in a sloppy sea, it can sometimes be dificult to get it right. Basically we hit the beach at up to 20knts (depending on conditions and the steepness of the beach) aiming at the plastic tubes that our club's boatmen have laid out for us. What speed are you going
Generally I go a bit faster when going with the tide. So about 4 - 4.5knts with the tide and around 2.5 - 3knts against the tide

In the US, every Coast Guard patrol boat has radar, which is a life saver in the fog.

I think, if there was a ban on recreational anglers taking pollack, that the MMO would of said something when they boarded me and checked the catch.

Boats are winched in all over the world. Just a different method of getting it clear of water.

Keel bands must get a hammered
beach keels comprised of 4 x 40mm x 10mm oak, glued using west system adhesives, plus 5 mm stainless steel per keel. No damage to gel coat yet. They have been on about 6 years and I have only ever popped four of the screws that hold the stainless on

I use Halco lures. red and white seem to be working well this year. Either 3.5 mtr or 5+mtr
