Two Common Issues on the Mercedes M271 Evo Engine. See us troubleshoot ‘another one of those’ issues: sprocket and high pressure fuel pump failures in an MB C250 with the M271 Evo engine. As specialists we see enough of these engines that we know exactly where to look when we see a set of symptoms. They form a pattern, and we can quickly and accurately diagnose and fix these issues. They are not related - they just happen to occur at similar mileage.

hi what are the part you used or recommend for this ?
Great video....im facing the same issue...just started happening..ty for saying it has to ti be programmed
Beautiful, I own exactly the same one but in Mugello Blue 💙. You did a great work on it!
Mine had this done under the recall for the 2010 year, several years ago and it doesn't burn any oil.
Correct, some older models got new pistons done by the dealers. Those never burn any oil. They all tend to be 2010s. They stopped at some point, I guess once they realized every single 4-cyl, and many 6-cyl, engines had the issue.
Nice work. I have 4 of these monsters
You're living the dream!
What will it cost to have this done?
Price really depends on the situation - best to reach out to us directly in CT or your trusted Euro shop.
What if you only change the sprocket for the intake side since the code is related to bank 1 ?
Entirely possible. But think about it. Same materials, same manufacturing conditions, same mileage - do you want to run the risk, and have to do it again? As a professional shop last thing we want is to have to tell the customer they need to pay for twice the labor because we didn't anticipate an issue.
I may need this on my ‘15 A4. But I hope not. May I ask the cost at the end of the day? I’m sitting down.
lol. The cost of the job depends on many factors. In our 20 years of experience the number one lesson is to never quote a job without diagnosing the issue first. Reach out if you are in CT, we'll be glad to help.
Which side is bank 1 and bank 2
@@user-wh6zu1nl4r re-watch the video, he covers it at least twice
Thanks, we do!
How often should the thermostat and water pump be changed? How many miles on this one?
We recommend 50K miles, as we prefer to err on the side of caution. Your Rover specialist should be pointing a flashlight every 5K miles and letting know you at the first sign of trouble.
old british car rule..if you stop burring oil ot leaking it, you are out of oil,, could be a new audi rule, now
Yeah, I've heard 'if there's no oil under it, there's no oil in it'! Definitely the case with Audi I4 and V6 of this generation. We see this a lot.
Harsher ride?
Not really - firmer. We are just bringing it back to what it was designed to feel like.
I installed the Meyle HD control arm 10 piece kit on my 2015 Audi Q5. Was very happy with the improved ride !!
They are great!
One of my favorite comments on a forum. “I’ll believe in lifetime fluids when bmw starts with lifetime warranty.”
lol! Correct. Neither will ever happen.
Hey will this cause a no crank no start eventually???
Yes it will. Nip it on the bud.
Useless tool
Can you buy just the bushing only?
Yes but you have to press the bushings out and the new ones back in which requires removal of the whole arm anyway so it's better to just replace the whole part in my experience.
yesterday i did it and i can say that you can save a lot of money with the same result, its good to have someone to help because its not easy to do this alone, especially with the press. For upper 4 parts i paid only 30$ in total OEM parts lemforder, 2x hydro bearings 55$, and 4 next bearings around 15$ each. So in total i paid only around 160$ where the lower lemforder wishbone costs around 120$ for just one part.
This is correct.
While it's possible, we prefer the control arms. Even though we are a professional shop, we almost had a safety incident with the press a while ago. Saving a few bucks is not worth the risk to me as a shop owner.
Hello, I have changed this same box on my 2013 Mini Cooper, but the fuel gauge has been blocked. Could you help me identify the problem please. Thanks for your help!
Hi - as clarified in our video description, specific issues are best addressed by a local specialist. Thanks.
@@carhavneurotech Ok. thanks a lot!
what website is that available on? I have an e92 and I need to update the cars software.
Not a website, man. This has to be done by a specialist or a dealer with the BMW ISTA software or a high-level tool such as an Autologic box. If you are in CT give us a call!
Dorman and upgraded are two words you do not usually hear used together. 😂. I have not had good luck with Dorman parts in the past. You have had good results with the cam bridge piece?
Fair enough! In many applications we stay away from them but this camshaft bridge / camshaft bracket has been pretty solid for us.
How is that new chain better if it has the same number of plates?
Great questions! The double links in the new design are more resilient to stretching.
@@carhavneurotech But why is that if it has the same cross section material wise? Is the steel different?
Just did this job on my ex-wife’s 2010 A5… it was at like 7.4 degrees before I replaced it. The car had less than 100k miles. Luckily it never skipped a tooth. Incredible to me how quickly these go bad. Why not just use a timing belt if they’re only going to last 100k or less?
7.4 is scary, glad it was caught. Did you have a Check Engine Light on? Probably not. Yes, you're lucky it did not skip timing. In a perfect world the timing chain would last a lot more. But bad tensioner design, 10K mile oil intervals, and questionable link design all play a part.
My car won’t start with the E relay on even with a new one.If you take it off it starts. No codes
Stop by your local Euro shop!
You have to remove all that to get to it
To do it right and clean the old oil you do!
No you dont.
Lol "check your piston rings" as if checking your rings are as easy as checking your air filter.. I guess when you go german, checking piston rings is a regularly scheduled maintenance item? 😂
Never intended to say a driver can do this. However, a trained specialist with the right equipment can check the rings in 20 min.
I wouldn't say "only". That is the professional way no doubt. Some have poured concentrated solvent into the pistons and that slowly ate away at the carbon.
Fair enough. However, unless the root cause is fixed (bad piston rings), the carbon will accumulate again, turning into a vicious cycle.
@@carhavneurotech You used original parts, it will happen again
@@carhavneurotech wont you using OE parts cause that same result though?
This is not accurate. The new design does not have the spring in the piston ring that causes the problem.
Every Vw product is burning oil.
Respectfully disagree! Excessive oil consumption is an issue that needs to be properly diagnosed and corrected.
My 2015 golf wagon with is20 turbo and apr tune never needs oil in-between changes and is at 125k miles.
$4000,- ?
😢 easily!! in retrospective, doing the oil change way more frequently is way cheaper
More or less. Our customers typically spend a bit more, but get a lot of work done as we make the best of the labor and replace also head gasket, valve cover gaskets, oil pan gaskets, camshaft bridge, even water pump and thermostat. It's not cheap but it's a new lease on life for the engine. We have customers regularly adding 100K miles after this service, we've been doing it for years so we see the long term results. Cheaper than getting a new car!
You'd think, but at $10-12 a quart for good fully synthetic oil every 500 miles it adds up. The real problem though is that if not fixed, oil in the rings will turn into carbon, and that will either 1. score the cylinder walls internally leading to loss of compression or 2. cause the valves to burn and lose chunks into the engine. Both issues will cause total engine failure.
Did you programmed the new JBE to the car?
Actually coding is needed, not programming. ISTA or a high-level scanner can take care of that.
@@carhavneurotech will it start the car even if you did not coded? Thank you
May start, but not every electronic function will work properly.
Hi, I'm having the same p2505 code on my glc43, do you know if it's same 87 relay? many thanks in advance
Probably, cheap enough fix to try, or connect with your local Euro shop.
This is a W221 S-Class not E
Yes you're right! We will make the correction, thanks for pointing it out.
Nice video. But my sq5 busting is fine but still has squeak sound. And today it has warning says suspension malfunction you may still driving. Do you know anything about this?
The advice we always offer is to find a trusted local Euro mechanic. Every situation is a little different. If you’re local to us in CT we’ll be glad to offer an appointment, our info is in the description. Hope this helps!
Or just apply 12 volts directly to the parking brake motor.
Yes - gotta be real careful though.
It can be done manually. It's an electric motor. Just apply electricity 👍
Correct done it myself that way
Not imposible - if your voltage source is not clean or if you get the polarity wrong you're looking at an expensive repair.
How do the Germans come up with this?
Everyone does it nowdays with electronic parking brakes, not just the Germans.
@@roots4xI have used the parking brake since mid-late '90s 😂. On all my vehicles. Every time I park. Automatic or manual.
Correct, many high end cars have this feature. We're a Euro shop so we see this all the time.
Any recommendations on where to purchase the seal kit from please. The make on my car is Pierburg model 06H 145 100 S.Thanks.
Hi Kelvin! Try Euro retailers like Europaparts, FCP Euro, or pelicanparts
Thanks a lot for the video. Very helpful. Did you detect issues on pistons by running compression test? Or do you think issue with pistons that you show can be detected by compression test?
Great q. Compression testing does not effectively detect piston ring failure. Endoscope is the way to go.
Do bad rings give any issues like check engine lights ? Im having a (turn engine off add oil light) but i don’t have any wet areas in pistons. I did valve seals already. Cars throwing blue smoke. Not sure if its burning off old oil in internals from previous owner. he had put 10 quarts because the light keeps saying low oil.
Just hoping its not piston rings. Car drives great. No engine codes or pending.
They won't cause a CEL, nor will they throw codes as there's no sensor to measure them. It's the 'add max 1 qt of oil' or similar that should prompt you to have them inspected by a Euro specialist.
@@carhavneurotechour Audi service dept is AWFUL. I’ll google Euro specialist. Great info!
How much is the cost for this job?
Pretty up there. See your local Euro shop for accurate pricing.
Thank you for this video! This has been happening with my Q5, 2013 every 900-1200 miles!
Get whose piston rings replaced! They will score the cylinder sleeves and ruin the engine.
does anyone know the proper torque specs for that vacuum pump, the 3 large bolts? Can't seem to find it online...one video the shop did 8 Nm on a 2016 Tiguan and another on a 2013 they did 20 Nm...?
Which year and model?
@@carhavneurotech mine is a 2013
Tiguan
Did the cylinders needed honing?
Thankfully no! In our experience, if there's scoring in the cylinder walls it's time for a new engine. The materials used in the walls are too delicate to hone properly.
Hi there great content... I'm. In the middle of engine rebuild... Would you share with me what kind of rings do you recommend..? Thank you 🙏
Sure! Only OEM or Rhinmetall ( they make them for Audi)
