Had a total blast and amazingly didnt break anything! Motor is coggy at lower speeds, I ended up swapping it out with a Castle 1515 2200 kv sensored system and then geared it up a ways. My buddy Miguel and I night crawling out at Elk Rock in Milwaukee Oregon. We ended up running into a fellow who had a bit too much to drink and lost his dog... Luckily Miguel came to the rescue, found the dog and returned it to the owner. The last minute or so is the owner telling Miguel how thankful he was! Super nice thing of him to do.

this is so sick, as a bronco owner - well done!
@@a36538 thank you appreciate it! I have more bronco content on my channel if you’d like to give a sub.
Good tip from me is to make sure the RX is taped down well so it doesn’t move around or you will crash ! So no Velcro guys !!! I learned that the hard way! Speed running at 117 mph and a bump in the road dislodged the RX from the Velcro and the car turned into the hedge !
I started to do this after getting impatient with using my heat gun, but started to worry that would make it harder to put back on. Thanks for clearing that doubt!
Glad I could help!
I watched many videos on UA-cam and looks to me that you know most about this transmitter and receiver so I have a question. How do I set up my Kraton 8s so I have to hold the silver button to go in reverse and disable it from its current normal mode.. thanks so much and great videos.
Thanks for the video. It’s close to what I want to do. But I don’t plan on running a body. I was going to build my own chassis and the front end would be wider. I’ve spent countless hours researching and not sure what direction to go yet with a front differential. Whats the overall gear ratio with those TRX-4 portals, I actually have GPM. They look almost the same. I ordered some dogbone shafts and tried to fit them today but they won’t work. The pins are too wide for the upper inner portal stub. Do you have a part number on those axle shafts and the diff? Thanks for any help. I have a massive folder with so much information in it. 30% now is probably worthless because I’m learning as I go. I have this stuff in the real world. It’s very very expensive. But in the RC world it’s like starting all over again.
I want to hear more about this portal ifs build. I already have parts.
Check out the videos on my channel, I have videos on it.
Great video 🫡🫡
Absolutely rad. Some HEAVY heavy fluid in the center and rear diff is the best thing you can do for these things, makes them much more capable on the technical sections
I didn't realize you were local to me. My Hammer Rey shows up this week, I will have to go check this course out!
I used to be local, assuming your in Oregon. I moved to Texas so definitely not local anymore. 🤣
Great review! Have you tried the Flysky GT5? their AVC works quite well and you can adjust the throttle control and steering control levels independantly.
I havnt, I’ve used the radiolink version tho and I like that one a lot.
It's way easier to cut the rear portion off and then make the cut behind the fenders because you can hold on to the bed the whole time

Same problem im having nice video bro. Just subbed to your channel.
Did you put on 3s 5000mah ? You don’t have any themperature trouble with it ?
3s is the only battery I’ve ever ran in it. Never had any issues.
How about 4s?
Ordered same shocks and springs you mentioned and flex is night and day! Thanks for putting this out.
nice video. I'm new to your channel. which camera do you use for your video's I'm looking to purchase a Go-pro
I believe this was all on my GoPro hero 9
That was way better than the instructions from radio link lol
Ha! Thanks man. I also had a difficult time with their instructions. Was my entire inspiration for the video.
What do I do if I am already using all of my channels on my receiver? I am using channel 3 for LED lights. How do I adjust the sensitivity of the Gyro without affecting the lights?
You just set channel 3 to a different button, the dial should still control the gyro.
@@falkenphil557 … I found that there’s an option to set the percentage in the menu instead of using the dial. I have the dial on lights. All my channels are being used I have zero left. Even my mixes and dual are used.
The gears cog out like that and make that grindin noise in the diffs because the stock spectrum setup ESC & motor is sensor less combo. If you throw upgraded censored rock racer set up in there it’ll make a completely different rig. It’ll crawl way smoother with no gear cogs ✌️
Yep I know, its already all been swapped out. I just made as many videos as I could with it stock to show people how it is out of the box.
@@falkenphil557 What combo you end up throwing in it? kv?
@@minneapolismike6124 Castle 1515 2200kv. Its more of a 1/8th scale setup but to me the rey chassis is closer to 1/8 then 1/10 anyways... Torque is never a problem, loads of low end control, had to pinion up a lot to get the speed back tho... Doesnt bother me, im currently in the Texas heat and it never even gets warm.
@@falkenphil557 Noice Bro! Great setup. 🙌
Great help!
I had one of these and got rid of it after not too long. I dislike having to remove several screws to remove the body. Also, getting to the center differential is a nightmare. I prefer the TEN platform.
Not gonna disagree, what you said is all very true... its a blast to drive tho so I just suffer through those parts.

@3:55 so what problems did changing the 3rd member fixed ? I don't think you ever got back to that in the video. I am asking because I got this and it's my 1st RC car so I am trying to learn as much as I can about it.
Bigger bearings. The old style would get hot and melt the plastic the bearings are seated in.
That was an awesome event!
Nice job on that looks 👍
Hey Phil, nice review. Please help. whats parts did you say will fit this? parts from the Baja Rey or the Rock Rey? thank you
The only part specific to the hammer rey I have found, is the chassis plate itself. As in the bottom skid section that makes up most of the chassis. Other then that everything from the Baja rey and rock rey will fit it. Front shafts are from the rock rey, everything else is interchangeable as far as I have found so far. What part are you looking for in particular?
@@falkenphil557 Hey bud, thanks for replying, i have liked and watched all your Hammer reys vids, god job and thanks for the reviews. I guess i'm looking ahead as parts break i will upfate with better stuff like the front A-arms, Shocks, rear trail arms, and all the steering stuff to name a few. probly the steering components all 1st.
@@619MotoXXX I’m still all stock except the steering servo, and I put my castle sensored motor and esc in it so I can slow crswl a little better. I couldn’t be happier with it as is honestly! I’m gonna wait for stuff to break before I upgrade anything. Out of all the rey chassis I’ve ever had the only thing I’ve had problems with is the front shafts, but with the hammer rey having an open center diff I don’t expect to have that problem on this one. I’m just gonna leave it as is, it performs exactly how I always wanted my rock rey to!

I love it man! It was a real impulse buy, and I had to really convince myself because of how much I hated my rock rey…. But this has been a truly fun rig! And I have yet to break it too, which is really surprising to me with how much I’ve driven it. And I have really bashed it in the rocks too, I have a video of it at proline by the fire and I really hammered it there.
@@falkenphil557 im stuck between getting this or the traxxas slash ultimate, but I just think this one looks so freaking cool. I’m sure it’ll be very useful out here in the northern Nevada topography
@@donevy9784 I’ve had both, the traxxas is a lot more capable, and parts accessibility is a lot easier.. however I have a lot more fun driving this. I ended up selling my slash because I stopped driving it after getting this. But for instance I wouldn’t take this racing in the sct class… it was also an easy decision because I have a 2wd slash, which I greatly prefer over 4wd slashes. But honestly you can’t go wrong with any of the above… definitely a hard decision if it’s your first go fast rig.
