Thanksgiving as an International Student in Ireland | Dublin Diaries #12
[THIS WAS FILMED IN 2022] While studying abroad at UCD in Dublin, Ireland, I celebrated many seasonal holidays - such as Thanksgiving! Hosting a miniature friendsgiving in our dorm was very fun (even though I am NOT a cook). Also, the remainder of November saw a shift into the holiday season in Ireland (a magical time in its own right) Enjoy this glimpse into student life at Universtiy College Dublin! Hey, please I have a question. I just did my biometrics yesterday, but I have a 3 months gap, that's 3 months without doing anything, do you think it will affect my chances for visa approval. It's a study visa by the way, I'm going for masters, and I've paid full tuition fees and my sponsor showed 13k euros as proof of funds and an annual salary of 50k euros. Hi! Do you have the option to live alone (no roommates) with an en suite bathroom?
Hi! I do not believe there was an on-campus option like this, but plenty of students lived off-campus (albeit usually with host families). However, as someone who really values her private time, I thought the setup at Roebuck Hall (and most if not all of the other accommodation halls) worked great with a private bedroom and bathroom but a shared kitchen and laundry room. Overall, it was the perfect mix of shared and independent living.

Yes! Some towns on the west coast speak Irish, but most of the country is fluent in English.

I have applied to UCD as an international student, how and when do I need to apply for accommodation. Have searched everywhere, but I can’t find anything about it
I received an email when it was time and I believe it brought me to SISWeb for it. However, it only opens at a specific time after you are accepted. For more specifics, you should ask the accommodation department at the school (and also through your program advisors if you are attending through another university).

Do I need to speak Irish if I want to study medicine there ?
No! Every one at UCD (and most people in Ireland) speaks English. In the west and in more traditional areas, you could possibly come across someone speaking only Irish but it is rare. The only Irish word I used while theree was "slainte" which has absolutely nothing to do with studying ;)
Hey, just a little question. I'll be moving to Dublin for next year to join Trinity but I have a lot of difficulties to find affordable accodomations. Do you have any recommendations / how did you do to find yours ?
As a UCD student, I got accommodation directly on campus. I am greatful for this because it is notoriously difficult to find accommodation in and around Dublin. I would recommend maybe finding a family to host you if you cannot find something on your own. Whatever you choose to do - good luck!
Many people are of the view that weather in Ireland is very depressing but after seeing you there it doesn't seem depressing at all.
It definitely rains more than in many other places, but I love the rain so I always enjoyed it. Also, fun fact: due to wind patterns, Ireland technically has a temperate oceanic (like tropical but cooler) climate! Winters are mild with little-to-no snow and summers are humid but not despairingly hot. Definitely not depressing for a semester or two!
