R2R Podcast: Episode #2 - Stephen Christian (frontman of Anberlin)
Welcome to the second official interview of the Reels2Riffs podcast!
I am joined today by Stephen Christian, powerhouse frontman of the legendary modern rock band Anberlin. Just 2 days ago on Friday, May 17th, Stephen went live on his Instagram and opened it up to have any fan request to be in his live and join in on the fun. Naturally, after I was lucky to have my chance to speak to Stephen for a few minutes, I took it upon myself to edit and piece together all of my time in his live as a fun "interview" for my channel.
We discuss all things from what we were up to on our ends that night, my Anberlin concert on July 30th 2023 at the UA-cam Theater, meeting the band at the show, Stephen's reflection on his temporary current hiatus from touring with the band, the future of Anberlin, and so much more! This was quite a lucky experience and I'm honored to have chatted with Stephen. I've been a long time fan of Anberlin (going all the way back to the 5th grade when I was a kid), they've been my favorite modern band, and Stephen has always been one of the most genuine and nicest people you'll ever met.
So grab some popcorn, sit back, and enjoy a fun chat with one of the most respectful, genuine, and hardest working frontmen in music.
TABLE OF CONTENTS:
00:00 - Intro.
00:00:18 - Connecting with Stephen / movie plans for the night
00:00:51 - My Anberlin show 7/30/23 & history with Anberlin
00:01:30 - My appreciation for the Silverline & Convinced EPs
00:01:51 - The recording process behind Silverline & Convinced
00:02:37 - The making of the Anberlin song "Nothing More"
00:03:50 - Meeting the band at the 7/30/23 UA-cam Theater show
00:04:54 - Wishing Stephen good luck / his future endeavours
00:07:19 - Stephen's reflection on his future with Anberlin
00:09:37 - Thanking Stephen / ending the live chat
Special thanks to Stephen Christian for his immense kindness & dedication to his fans, generosity of his time, and for personally inviting me as one of the lucky fans to be on his Instagram live! Definitely one of the coolest experiences I've ever had!

After 2 weeks of editing, I am proud to present a very ambitious project that has been very special to me. I've loved this character since picking up Adventure DX and the Mega Collection on Gamecube way back in 2001! After 4 days of tiresome editing, I am proud to present a tribute to my favorite actor of all time, Sylvester Stallone. An icon who’s an absolute badass, has been a major source of inspiration to me since childhood, and the manliest person on the planet. Happy Birthday, sir, and thank you for over 45 years of amazing films. Song used is "Ready To Strike" by 80's rock band King Kobra, off their ...

Right in the beginning of 9th grade way back in 2011, I was treated to watching one of the most legendary movies of all time with my Dad: Invasion U.S.A, released in 1985 by MGM Pictures. Not only did it introduce me to creating my love of movies, but it also introduced me to a man who was one of his favorite actors growing up, and would also become one of my favorite actors of all time. An abs...

TNT is one of the most impressive, legendary, and supremely talented rock bands of all time, with special notice going to the supersonic God-like vocal prowess of Tony Harnell and the machine gun-like guitar playing skills of Ronni Le Tekro. The band has enjoyed much success since they hit the scene in 1984, and continued with even greater, multi-platinum, and award wining albums throughout the...

Sigourney Weaver (70th Birthday Tribute To The Sci-Fi Queen)

A little something extra I threw together and made for legendary actress Sigourney Weaver , especially since last year was her 70th birthday! 1979’s "Alien" directed by Ridley Scott and 1986’s "Aliens" (Special Edition Director’s Cut) directed by James Cameron, are my 2 favorite horror movies of all time, and ones I watch every year whenever October rolls around. Scott and Cameron knocked it ou...

In 1987, Dokken was at the top of their game, and riding their commercial peak. They had just released their 4th, and most successful album of their career: Back For The Attack. It already had a string of hit songs on there, such as "Standing In The Shadows," "Heaven Sent," and "Burning Like A Flame," however the song that would catapult the band into legendary status was their hit song "Dream ...
Till The Living End - Tribute To Dokken's George Lynch

A couple days ago on September 28th, was Dokken's legendary guitarist George Lynch's 65th birthday. I wanted to put something together to pay respect to this almighty guitar hero, by showing off footage across all of Dokken's historic videos, set to his blisteringly furious solo from my favorite Dokken song, "Till The Living End," off of my favorite Dokken album, Under Lock And Key (1985). If we keep remembering him and share with each other what he did for us individually , then we can keep him semi alive and keep him with us as long as we talk about what he did for us , the first time we heard him , concerts or if you were lucky enough to have met him , it seems that we put our differences aside and meet on one level . The peaceful , music , especially new music comes first, and create that atmosphere that we can re-live hour own memory’s with him , and keep him in our hearts and minds , then he is always with us . I have to think that way because I can’t handle the reality that he really is no longer with us . After getting shocked to the core on October 6, 2020 , it was well into 2021 before I could listen to Van Halen music. What was one of the most natural things that ever existed in my life , listening to and digging VH music , I now physically could not do The moment that I realized what was going on it really hit me hard and all the arguments against anyone else ever being a better guitar player than Eddie and all of those moments (which was every second Eddie invaded my ears) , I knew that my instinct of knowing he was the best, all those moments in life when the odds were against me , that sticking to my EVH is the best mindset paid off and that was one thing that I could hold true to myself , made me proud knowing that I have been right all along and that’s a great feeling. When that hit me , which was about 6, 7 months after he past, I began to loosen up and before long , the music worked its way back into my life and back where it belonged , to its rightful place atop the Mt Everest in my heart. But that’s just one story that I have to go along with all that are in the world. It’s that loyalty syndrome’s little voice in your head that says when your listening to the music , I may or maybe I may not be correct when I think he’s the best ever, because there could be someone out there who might be as good or better, and that’s ok , and that’s anyone’s right to think and say that . To that , I answer back with s peaceful response of , you know , if you like the other one better , then by all means enjoy yourself with your choice , I don’t care if my favorite is not your s , but as for me , I’m thankful and lucky that I have my favorite , and for the rest of my life , I can enjoy my favorite artist,, Maybe your guys better , but you’ll never convince me of that because I found and have the very best , and I’m just fine with my choice ,……and yours , …. God Bless!

The guitar just looks like a Fender Stratocaster with the pickguard removed and a paint job. The fact that he put a humbucker in the bridge position was different but i'm sure companies would have figured that out eventually. I would never ever buy his guitars. It's too much associated with him!

The love that Ed has for that instrument is infinite I admire that he is so dedicated and obsessed with it that he is playing it or carrying it around (always) like an extension of his own body… like Frankenstein Who is built from the body parts of other people Ed is built on guitar parts😂I am obsessed with music myself but never have I seen a musician love his instrument so much it’s admirable

I did the exact same thing this builder did and built my own replica, down to every single detail including the original reflectors to the quarter with the exact same size drill holes. Fking rad plays killer looks like hell LOVE IT lol I wake up every day and out of all my guitar (or some I have in the racks) she stands out amongst all of them. It truly is the most recognizable guitar in the world.

Franco was an extraordinary trainer and body builder. Training came to him so naturally, he played a big part in transforming the way Stallone looked in movies! He was also an integral part of Arnold's weight training days, just shows how greatly he must have contributed in the impressive physiques of two of the greatest action movie stars of all time! Thank you Franco for your great knowledge!

Don's right about what he says about So-Fi Stadium. The sound is terrible because it' snot made for sound. It's made for football and Taylor Swift, Beyonce, spectacle crap. Not music. Hollywood Bowl is designed for music. For an outdoor venue it sounds terrific. I've gone to many concerts there, rock, jazz, classical, blues, metal. Great venue.
