Any house built for me would have the garage in the back. That's a convenience, not a design feature. Some call them "snout houses". I call them something else. 😊
Not a bad idea!
Indirect light, no down lights, light fixtures should point up (especially the dining area) otherwise you need to wear a visor to shield your eyes especially if you wear glasses . I've dined in restaurants where the lights over the tables are too bright and harsh and I wished I had my visor that I wear outside to shield my eyes from the sun.

YES, I totally agree with these, a south facing veranda is awesome especially in northern climates, the sun angle gets in under there and makes it nice and warm late in autumn through to spring. A back deck, mine is not covered, it is on the north side, we can sit in cool comfort for most of the day with the house blocking the sun. Attached garage, could NEVER be without such in my climate! Recessed lighting, only have a few, but is fine, the least important of things mentioned.
I live in the north west USA. Lived in a house once where the beautiful view was facing West. We had to put the shades down mid to late day because the sun was blinding and hot . Couldn't enjoy the view.
@@MissPrissy6688 Yes, would be problematic with the sun in west and sinking in the horizon. The sun only really gets under my south facing veranda from late fall to early spring, it can be so nice and warm that even in the middle of a northern winter, I can set houseplants out to catch some rays while I enjoy my coffee sitting staring at the snow. The uncovered north deck is ideal until late in the afternoon when it becomes too hot as the sun swings around to the NW. I have a small west deck, is uncovered and it's a furnace.

I agree about the yard. I used to live in a beautiful condo, and the noise transmitted through the walls and floors was insane. The second week living there, my upstairs neighbors had a lady friend over, and I truly thought their bed was going to crash through the floor and on top of me. I had to move to our guest room until they were done. I now live in a house with a beautiful backyard.
Everyone wants a slice of the waterfront! The lake is your playground :)
