I couldn't believe what I saw the first time I witnessed a mandarin duck on a drab grey walk. I'd never seen such colour on an animal outside a zoo. I googled something like 'orange duck' and found what they were. Been fascinated since.

Thanks for posting! We also have a huge problem in Southern Africa, as introduced basses, trout and carp are basically taking over and wiping out indigenous fish species. The biggest obstacle we have in remedying the problem is the recreational sport fishing fraternity who by and large don't really care so long as they can catch and release their favourite alien exotic invader species.

I'll never keep another betta. They're fascinating fish, and really satisfying to care for, but it was super depressing to see my little homie building his bubble nests, and then just waiting and waiting for a ladyfish to show up in his tank :(

It's a real shame the last one will likely go extinct. If we can save it it's new adaptation to not being as territorial would be good if it could someday be used for the domestic side of it because those fish that evolved from it's ancestors are aggressive. I hope somehow they get conservation efforts and it can bounce back.

Im not a fish person (owner wise) but I have such a fascination and respect for aquatic creatures and fish. This gave me sm more respect for beta fish
