    idk why, but the first thought that came to mind was Howl's Moving Castle. I can't figure out how these aliens may feel about this book... but I think it would be interesting, lol.

    'Just for the Summer' made me SOB. ugh. 'Yours Truly' was beautiful, made me feel all the feelings, unforgettable--- but I also HATED it so much so I have a lot of mixed feelings about that one, lol (I was viscerally annoyed by the miscommunication, assumptions about how the other feels. I also felt the dramatic ending was rushed).

    I've read everything aside from Yellowface. I truly need to read it! I've been worried bc of the mixed feelings people have had, but I know myself; I can definitely read a character you love to hate and I know this is one of those reads. Lol.

    re: men being into romance, my boyfriend's favorite movie is pretty woman and he loves romcoms. so. do with that what you will😌i would have so willingly settled before i met him and thought nothing of it. but he has shown me that there are people out there who are just as emotionally intelligent and communicative and kind as the men in romance novels. so anyway. to anyone reading this: know your worth, and don't settle for anything less than what you deserve. you deserve someone who really does make your life easier. k love you hope this helped

    another thought: some male authors LOVE to write romance and say that in interviews but will only write it in a fantasy or sci-fi context because the story itself will be more "manly" or sell more to a male audience, honestly breaks my heart because i'm sure they could write wonderful romance books and would open the genre to their male audience thanks to their trust in their writing (if that makes sense)

    I just don’t get why people judge so many people judge people for what they read. Like when I say I’m a reader, so many people (manly men) think that all I read is spicy/dark romance. While yes I read a lot of romance, I read a lot of different genres too.

    "fantasy is easy reading" is something only someone who doesn't read fantasy can say 😅 I read a lot of litfic and the last time I picked up a fantasy book i felt SO lost because the author's world was so complex! There's so many important details to the magic and political systems, and if its a fantasy based on historical events sometimes theres a learning curve because its a culture or world event you might not be all that familiar with.

    I think if you’ve got the guts to say “I don’t think booktok should be political” then you should also have the guts to defend your political opinions 😂 bc in that sense, that ~is~ a political take, imo! I’m a libertarian and I’m pretty unapologetic about my views, but I also don’t expect the entire world to agree with me, or to not speak about their opposing views in a space where I’m in! I think if you wanna be on the internet, you gotta toughen up a lil and just deal with it.

    I think there's also something to be said about Audibles other post of bookish ins and outs (saying 2x speed is out and 1x is in), as it promotes their "ideology" in a more direct way, especially when you take into account the fact that many people with disabilities, such as dyslexia, use the service for accessibility. And although it is a corporation, and it makes sense that they would promote an opinion that contributes to their prosperity as a business, they also have the responsibility to be aware of the impact what they say or promote has on their audience, negative or positive, especially when it comes to the fact that they make the speed of listening an option on their platform.

  • @zivakobal558

    while i agree with pretty much everything a comment or something to think about - we cannot ignore the fact that many books that are coming out nowdays aren't just a bunch of (popular) tropes thrown together, sadly many authors are rushed to produce books very fast (publishing a sequel a year after the first book for example),, im not saying these books are bad or unenjoyable, im just saying we cant dive deeper into them because they literally don't go any deeper

  • @nataliemorrison574
    @nataliemorrison574 11 днів тому

    When you say it’s a ‘boarding school romance’ some people that wouldn’t have looked at it twice might pick it up. When they’re reading, they’ll then be exposed to the deeper themes & messaging. It’s up to them what they take away from that. It gets it out to an audience that wouldn’t otherwise choose to read it, so I can’t see the harm at all

    • @arkkon2740
      @arkkon2740 6 днів тому

      The issue is that you're basically lying by ommision when it comes to what the book is. Its one thing to list the basic tropes, its another thing to boil it down into very basic concepts that your general audience would like, only to find out there's gratuitous violence, mass murder, and biological experimentation on human beings. Yes that was in reference to Gaze Upon Wicked Gods cause even the author did that, and no one liked it because she hid so much and reviewers hid so much If they didnt check it out, its probably because they wouldnt like to see a book about war at the time. If I told you GTA was a romance/dating sim game cause they have VERY optional dating sections then I'd just be lying, right?

    • @nataliemorrison574
      @nataliemorrison574 6 днів тому

      @ I really don’t think there’s an issue at all, honestly. Some people just want to read for enjoyment and to escape - a blurb gives a good picture. All the opinions on what people should and should not read, honestly, are more of the issue.

    • @nataliemorrison574
      @nataliemorrison574 6 днів тому

      @ I would also look at the overall description of a video game and see the wider concept, so, I can’t see the relevance in that comparison. If they aren’t looking for a war novel - the blurb will tell them they! If they know there are some subplots that might interest them and have also read the blurb, then they might think about reading. Lying by omissions isn’t really a phrase that can be applied to much, because a lie is literally something untrue. It’s not giving a whole picture, but it’s not a lie. It’s a book - people take what they want from it and the whole culture of making everything which a big deal is why I actually have been put off of reading communities entirely. It’s beyond the ridiculous.

    • @arkkon2740
      @arkkon2740 6 днів тому

      @@nataliemorrison574 by that logic, no one would be checking out the book anyway because they'd also look elsewhere. You're leaving out details by lying by ommision, but its okay because it breaks into a new audience, even though they can just find the stuff that doesn't interest them anyway because they're looking for extra stuff (lets not forget how accessable books can be when you dont feel like spending money btw) Also you know what lying by ommision is, right? Scewing the picture by leaving out details, even if the stuff you already mentioned is technically in it. Lets go back to Dead Space, if I told you it was a space exploration game then thats a lie of ommision. Its a decent part of the story and some gameplay, but thats not the focus and it completely leaves out the fact that you're playing a zombie shooter. You made that picture so small when it comes to the original, you cant even say you were being truthful about it unless you never actually read or played it. And so what if its "just a book?" People taking what they want from it is an entirely different thing from acting like what they took from it is ALL that thing is. There's absolutely no point in sharing your interests with a person if you can't even up front with what that interest actually is, and thats the entire point of these shitty book recommendations. You say books should be an escape, but when people want to escape their abusive situation so you give them Credence, thats not gonna help if you just tell them its a reverse harem book and not mention the weird cousin stuff

    I think another problem people had with Powerless was the fact it was about genocide and Lauren did nothing with it. There was no real political discussion, the MCs had a Katara/Zuko type relationship, and the genocide itself wasn’t treated with as much care as that type of tragedy warrants. Among the plagiarism allegations I think this issue is the one that gets brushed over most. (But I know Powerless wasn’t the point of your video.)
