I was young when turbo frank, shimmel and eip were doing their thing. Frank had a 12 second scirocco that he drove to the track like '97. Put the motor in a Jetta and crashed it. Swapped it later to a corrado then sold it around '05. Was making 400hp on oem stuff. Pretty insane.

I remember telling someone my R32 had a "straight 6". I've owned Turbo GTis and for some reason I've always equated "straight" to mean "normally aspirated". Shortly after telling someone that I realized that the term I used might not have been accurate and I felt like an idiot. Now, though, I have heard many people say that "technically" since the VR6 only has one cylinder head that it could be called either a "V6" or a "straight 6". I feel redeemed.

@kanaric - it's not a v engine, nor a straight engine. It's a Vee-row engine meaning the cylinders are placed in a zig-zag form (when viewed from the top). One of the main reasons vw developed this engine was because a true v6 engine wouldn't fit in the engine bay of the golf. The same design is also found on the vr5 engine, which obviously has a lower displacement and one cylinder less.
