Opti TV
United States
Приєднався 7 жов 2015
The source for all your Optimist Sailing Tips, News, and Info! Opti TV was created to be a resource for primarily US based Optimist sailors, parents and coaches. We found that the Opti class lacked a centralized knowledge base as the Opti Class continues to evolve. Our focus is primarily advice and information for competitive optimist sailors and their support persons.
Opti TV aims to be the ultimate resource for Opti sailors, their parents, and coaches in the US and in a future, worldwide. Using modern tools and social media we hope to be a source of tips, tricks, news and everything in between so that your sailing and sailing program can succeed.

Love it I do sailing in Austria so cool but we dasnt have this I am Annalena
hi ASHER
Thank you for your vid! Still I can't understand why learning to sail with a type of sail that is not used in almost any other dinghy nor sailing boat. What do you think about that? Neither I understand the flat shape of the bow... Maybe you can explain all these in a new video (why the shape, the type of sail, etc). Many thanks again!
hm, maybe we should dive into the design! Here's a short summary: The rig and hull designs are carryover from the original designer's constraints of cost and materials, and Clark Mills did a pretty good job as he designed a boat that could be sailed by children. the sprit sail rig is easy to depower, simple to assemble, and is small enough that a couple of children could lift it. (remember, back in the days of wooden optimists). The square bow comes again from the cost savings, as Clark Mills originally planned for a sharpie skiff design, but a pram design was more cost effective and easier to build out of plywood than a pointed bow with multiple chines. I highly recommend checking out the book by Robert Wilkes which is where we got most of our source material, here it is on amazon: www.amazon.com/Optimist-Dinghy-1947-2007-provisional-International/dp/1484911962
The sprit sail is a very old design and was a popular rig in the Tampa Bay area for small craft which had to pass under railroad bridges for example. Also, the spars were short enough to be stowed in the boat. The pram bow makes for a lot of load carrying capacity and is easy to build. They were very popular for dinghies for larger boats.
Awesome insights... very clear and informative! LOVE it! Great job, and you've got the best coaches in the USA!
Hi Alberto it’s Carter I’m subscribed. Your a great coach and I am glad Orlando is back 😊

Agree with concept. sprint, tactic, round. Thanks for sharing
Get a Ronstan Clearstart. The feature set has everything you need to race and it’s _cheap._ It has 10, 5 and 1 minute countdown with beeps every ten seconds in the final minute plus beeps every second for the last five seconds. It also has a user set for pursuit starts, up to 59 minutes and 59 seconds. It has a sync reset button in case you were late setting the gun. There are now four different versions but the analogue quartz only does five minute countdown. My only reservations are that the 4055 model uses an integrated strap that can eventually break, resulting in the potential loss of the watch. The other is that the buttons can be quite hard to push on the 4054 and 4055 models and my 4055 eventually failed. The 4054 I now have has a 20mm lug width and I strongly recommend that anyone considering a watch buy this model. The reason is that you can put a Zulu or NATO strap on it (stupidly comfortable, by the way) so that if a spring bar breaks you don’t lose your watch. Ronstan is an Australian company. Buy one. It’s a no-nonsense watch.
Keep up the nice work❤
Im 12, I just started sailing and I love it
I just started opti sailing today its really fun
Great!
optis are epic
It me Cameron Alberto from cayman
I like all of your videos!
Thaaaaanks! 😍
Great content! thanks a lot ❤
.
The ClearStart is by far the best with the Sync function. After using sync so many times from failing to hear or start the first horn, it has become a necessary function IMO. However, the integrated band version is very crappy. Mine got brittle after 3-5years and broke apart, so now I need a whole new watch. So get a ClearStart, but NOT with the integrated plastic band.
Agreed, we've owned and used all the ronstan offerings and the clear start puck is the best by far. The small watch version has not held up to usage and hasn't been very water resistant in our experience
Buy the newer 4054 model. It’s smaller but it has a conventional strap. All you need to do is remove the strap and put a Zulu strap or NATO strap on it so that if something does break (it will be a spring bar) you don’t lose your watch. Those straps are much more comfortable, by the way. I sail keelboats, rather than dinghies so YMMV.
@@thethirdman225 I actually contacted Ronstan recently and they helped me replace the watch. Great customer service. I thought about the smaller version, but I don't feel like I could go smaller. Not only for my own eyes, but sometimes I put it in front of the helmsman so I'm not yelling out the time.
Legit 🤙🏽
Cool
Good 👍 👍 👍
