You could have sold me on the idea that this piece was by Schoenberg in a cheery mood, but no, it’s actually Babbitt unbuttoned…. I feel like I can almost follow the musical logic: lots of canonic passages, etc… Or are my ears just hallucinating? Yeah, probably. Anyway the Big B isn’t often this clear and generous, so, enjoy.

I'd never heard this piece till this morning. It's remarkable how Babbitt manages to make this brief piece sparkly and cheery and uplifting, something very difficult to do without a tonal centre. Not every work he wrote was this successful, but he really pulled this one off well.

My Huawei AI can actually make better forgettable music than this one.

Bonjour. Cette musique a un côté pastoral que j'aime beaucoup, en même temps je verrais bien celle ci dans un film des années 1930. Le quintette qui interprète cette partition est excellent. Un instant d' insouciance à l' écoute de cette pièce de musique de chambre pour quintette à vents. Bravo à tous les interprètes.

I was practicing the flute part to these earlier tonight. Now here it is 7:32 A.M. and I still haven't gone to sleep. How am I supposed to sleep now with this in my head?? Very addictive music. I actually went through all 6, plus the Potpourri on Themes from Rossini's Tancredi by Giuliani for Flute and Guitar. Now I might have to go get my instrument out again and play these one more time before the ambien kicks in. I don't know what's going on at 45:39 on the Bb-A's it sounds like a slide horn. Being a woodwind person, personally I would move my fingers a little quicker. The flute part at 49:30 is absolutely addictive.
