It's great for hitting outside parts (heads tails wings) but lock on is better for being able to target more inside parts (like arms that may be behind the head or wings)

@@Jrgsubzero that's a good point. Tomorrow I'll try a barroth fight with gyro. With lock on it is quite easy to hit the arms (i play with long sword)

Monsters turn red before an attack. So it's always after they turn red but before you get hit. This varies by what they're doing, e.g. if they're red and wiggling their butt they're about to do a tail swipe. Sometimes if you hold right as they go red you won't have enough time so you need to learn the moveset and attack timings, there is no one size fits all answer except that it's much safer to go for a dodge/perfect dodge. My biggest tip for long sword is beware the 3-hit combo (the side to side then overhead) as you need to make sure you can commit to it otherwise you're gonna get hit. I don't use evade extender.

Ahh ty that's about what I expected, and to be honest why MH is liked and all about. Hunting monsters over and over until you learn their attack patterns like the back of your hand lol

They keep getting me with a few moves it's so agonizing to keep forgetting it lol. Oh, also beware the fade slash, it triggers when you try to back dodge while comboing. I need to do more testing to see when it triggers exactly but it's gotten me killed a lot when I try to back dodge and I do a wimpy little fade slash backwards. @@ezEricZhang

Just a heads up if you haven't tried it yet. If you try this with gold do not try it on the top level. The mini game map was to high for me it cut off part of it and that threw my timing the jumps off. It's doable but like I said, it threw me off.
