EXPLORE Hot Pot BARBADOS Underwater world- Freedive No fins Drift
HOT POT BARBADOS!
This is one of the best 'secret' spots in Barbados, just off of spring garden highway. The sea water gets sucked up into the power plant and runs around the outside of the turbines and cools them. This heat exchange turns the ocean water to warm sulphuric water!
I'm no scientist so if someone is and knows for sure drop a comment and explain!
Many people swear by the health benefits of bathing in sulphuric water. Usually people in other islands bathe in volcanic natural hot sulphur springs but here we have a more artificial version haha
I definitely recommend wearing black swimwear and taking off your jewelry. The water can tarnish both of these. Your swimwear and hair will smell like sulphur for a while too! Most people don't submerge here - I do and no issues personally, I also do wear a mask most of the time though so no water comes up my nose. Swim at your own risk in this spot, there are also no lifeguards and some people have drowned here in the past when the water is deeper and current is strong. The water path and current strength changes day to day.
As i said- The current is quite strong so we enjoy floating down the stream and then running or crawling your way up! So much fun and you sleep so well. Not a typical Freedive session ofcourse but I really enjoy it as a way of changing things up.

The Ce Trek Shipwreck - Continuing my series of The Shipwrecks of Barbados- Shipwreck Paradise Guide. This cement boat sank in 1986 in Carlisle Bay and sits in about 12meters or 40 feet of water. She is a sweet little wreck to dive as its just over from the Ellion so it doesn't attract quite as many tourists. I've often found stubbs sleeping in here :) However this little green turtle is not St...

Just off the bow of the Pamir shipwreck is the 'Mini Submersible' This wreck I cant tell you 100% that this story is true.. but what I heard on the coconut wireless was that one of the wealthy owners of a mega Yacht parked in the nearby Port st. Charles Marina had a mini submersible .. However it was broken and had to be sent out for repairs. Now this person had some friends coming down to use ...
Barbados Shipwreck Paradise-The Pamir Freedive

The Pamir shipwreck lies just north of Speightstown Barbados. She's an absolutely amazing wreck to dive on- not far offshore and usually has a marker bouy on it for boats so relatively easy to locate. The reef is called Vauxhall. The bow sits in about 45ft and the stern is about 60ft. This vessel was sunk on purpose in 1985 as a dive site for scuba divers. It is one of two sister ships- the oth...

The Bajan Queen She Sank or I should say scuttled in 2002 -She sits in about 9.5-10m (30-33ft) The Bajan Queen is by far one of my favorite wrecks to dive in Carlisle Bay! Despite the propeller being in 10m the roof of the wheel house is barely a few meters down which is also what makes it such a popular ship wreck to snorkel on. The light just reaches it so well. Obviously this wreck is my fav...

Hey! Happy new year! How can you relax and smile underwater while having contractions at the same time?
Happy new year to you as well- Good question! I suppose practice makes perfect- For me contractions or “breathing reflexes” are not something that stresses me out. I’ve been a freediving instructor since 2016 now and Over time you become really accustomed to it. Although I think when doing static I find they are much more intense than if I’m recreationally diving or spearfishing I’m usually more relaxed. When I’m just left to my thoughts floating on the surface contracting it’s a bit harder to smile 😬 !! But fun fact: smiling even when you are not happy tricks your brain into thinking you are happy! Hence the “fake it till you make it” phrase. So sometimes when you see Freediver’s smiling allot before a dive they might be trying to tap into this! 😆 🙃
@@tridentfreediversbarbados Wow! Thats was a super nice answer! Thank you so much! I also get contractions underwater when freediving, nad i dont mind it alot myself either. I actually like the feeling of holding my breath
Happy new year with many safe deep dives🤿🤿🤿
Happy new year!! Same to you!!
Che incanto. Brava.
The turtles seem friendly enough. I wonder if they associate humans with food or some such. I've encountered that at other dive spots. Fish see divers & they swarm around them thinking they may get handouts.
They definitely do! I didn’t personally feed them here but there are some tour operators who do throw fish overboard. Originally the tour operators noticed that the turtles always hang out near the fisheries where fishermen will clean fish and throw overboard- for example at oistins jetty there are always loads of turtles. Apparently they are not fast enough to catch fish but will happily scavenge carcasses. And I think even though it’s not ideal to disrupt their natural feeding pattern- the fact that many tourists come to Barbados to see Them has also gone hand in hand with their being protected in our island and valued highly as a tourism attraction. When I was a kid they used to sell Turtle Shell jewelry at the beach and now they sell Turtle tours! Which seems so natural to me that they should be protected but I recently travelled to Grenada and there the turtles have an open season- which apparently isn’t adhered to much and it’s basically open season for turtles all the time but specifically during their nesting times when they catch them on the beaches .. which is just horrible! Especially when you see dead hawksbills etc which are endangered.. so I suppose it’s not ideal that the turtles are being fed by tour operators but also it’s better than some alternative situations as well? What do you think?
@@tridentfreediversbarbados I haven't been in Barbados so I'm not familiar with the laws & regulations there, but in the USA & the territorial waters sea turtles are protected under state & federal laws. Tampering with nests is strictly prohibited, & doing so can earn you a hefty fine. What happens here in some places is wildlife officials & workers dig up the eggs & take them to a hatchery, releasing the turtles once they're large enough that the birds & fish can't eat them. I'm seeing more & more where wildlife is pushing back into civilization. We encounter a lot of deer in town, mostly on the outskirts, & we need to watch out for them while driving. My personal rule & practice - whether on land or underwater - is to respect wildlife & enjoy from a safe distance. Not only for the wildlife's well-being but the human's safety as well. I saw where a diver lost a finger to a moray eel. He was feeding them hot dogs & one of them mistook his finger for one & bit it off. Sometimes my navel piercing reflects the sunlight which attracts the fish, & I've gotten nipped by fish a few times! And of course NEVER touch coral!
We've encountered tour subs like that while diving. The passengers inside wave when they see us outside through the windows.
Wow that would be crazy to see a working one! We have one here but it’s a big one and it goes on an outer bank. I see it from the fishing boat at times but never in the water
Realy cool:) thanks for Sharing this :) I would like to wish you a good start to a successful new year!
Thank you! You too!

Amazing edit baby. Was pulling to keep up with you that day.😂😂
Gracias! 🙏
What happens if you suddenly need air when you are deep inside of a wreck?
It’s all calculated risk- you don’t actually need “air” for allot longer than you think. It’s more about building tolerance to Co2 😎
You are such an incredible woman underwater. Your breath hold is amazing. Sometimes I can see your contractions on your way up. So strong and skilled. What is your best static?
Thanks! I’m not the best at static tbh.. I prefer deep diving or wreck diving. My mind is more quiet.. if I’m just floating on the surface holding my mind races too much 😊
@@tridentfreediversbarbados Thats amazing, i am born side by side of a big lake, and I freedived there all the time every summer. Its an amazing feeling. How deep is the bottom under the ship?
