Quick Layout Overview

A 40 car stack train does the rounds as I do a quick scan of the layout. Getting there. Was the music really that loud?
Christchurch Parade - early 1950s

Floral parade in Chirstchurch, New Zealand, estimated to be in 1953-54. Typical of those in Christchurch throughout the 1950s and 1960s. Footage taken by my Great Grandfather Corrie Dodge. ©Dodge Family Collection.

Just over a year into operation, Cook Strait rail ferry "Aramoana" is seen here arriving in Picton, New Zealand, then proceeding to unload. The locomotive seen is Dsc 419, also only a year old at that point. Footage taken by my Great Grandfather Corrie Dodge. ©Dodge Family Collection.
New aquisitions out for a test run.

Today's wallet damage, P2K 50/60 and an Athearn 40T. Also featuring my new LED lighting overhead - Wouldn't keep it for a finished layout but for plain work lighting its pretty darn good.
First run of the stacks.

My hodgepodge collection of well cars out for their first run. As you can see a little TLC is required here! Proper lighting wouldn't hurt either...
50 total on the NEW mainline.

Completed my mainline today on the relocated layout - without safety barriers i don't want to try for the longest train possible as it could very well pull in on the curves. 50 total seemed a good goal however.

did that train come out trackless?
Is this layout completely
Thank you so much for uploading. I watched this on VHS repeatedly as a kid. It was my favourite video, even got to meet Mr Scott a couple of time. My VHS was lost to time 25+ years ago, and I've been wanting to find the video ever since to show my son. Finding this has made my day
This was pretty much me as an introvert during the lockdowns back in 2020, just driving and riding my bike aimlessly on empty roads.
Ricky’s been dumb before, but this…
I use to have the video of this as a kid. Managed to see the layout in Napier before the owner had to close
I was really good friends with John (the owner) and unfortunately, he has passed away a few years ago now. But the railway here, has gone to a new home at Putāruru timber museum as well as Lilliput and other layouts from TrainWorld.
@@patricksavage922 thats good it's still around. I remember hearing on Facebook that he died a few years ago
Health and Safety wouldn't leg you so close to operations now days
I just found my copy of this on VHS this morning . Bought it in 2005 at the warehouse. NZ Model Railway Tours . Goes for 60 mins , has a lot of great stuff on it.
A gem of a film. This railway was a big source of inspiration back in the day when I did the same scale due to his book "Little trains of thought". Its an icon of New Zealand model railway building that stands the test of time.
This is from the quiet earth
Any chance of putting a full copy of this up given the news of Merv's passing? I used to obsessively watch this as a child and have lost my copy to time...
I had never seen this video, i agree, would be cool if we could see the full version, lot of rollingstock and engines never seen in his book.
Steam engines run on coal and water as fuel and diesel locomotives run on diesel fuel
You mean steam train 🚂 bubbles?
wow- looks like the layout flatmate has!- a certain homogeneity to it all
Can you upload the whole thing?
I'd like that too
For a older person, you have done great layouts and modelling Mr Smith. At least you didn't have someone from upstairs ringing to correct you over the script for this. I enjoyed visiting your studio and ZB and delivering those ever important "messages from the fuzz" back in the 60's. Blue.
G’day, just found your channel, nice collection of videos. I have joined you and will follow your journey, down here in New Zealand aswell…………..cheers Mark
hey you did a thing!
wrong horn 3/10 would not bang
That's no S3K...
Have you got the complete vhs/ DVD of nz model railway tours?? I used to have a copy but cannot find one anywhere...
That looks like exhibition class to me. Great layout and I agree with your point about developing your own style and and standard gives homogeneity.
fresh from an overhaul then I'm sure
can u mak them crash lol

That is one very cool video, love the old cars and the DSC in original paint, awesome.
Hi there from England! Thanks for posting this. I know someone who has been trying to get hold of the whole OST to this film for years. We've had no joy over here. Do you have any more of the tracks you're able to upload so at least we can listen to them on UA-cam? It would be so appreciated if you could! Cheers either way!
They finally uploaded it on Spotify and UA-cam so you can listen to them now
Great looking video. I also model the UP. Was wondering do you or can you show an overview of the entire layout. Also how big is the layout , what size radius do you use on the curves and what number size turnouts do you use..
Thanks Kanishiro. Minimum radius 30" and minimum #6 turnouts. Will see about uploading something to cover the whole layout soon.
The best movie on earth
My dream :p
You'd have to stumble across this clip, for sure: but if you do, this man,in a previous incarnation, was one of the best rock and soul drummer that I've ever heard in 50 odd years of listening. From the 'Original' line up of Max Merritt and the Meteors from the shakey isles.
Great video!
How far out did you have the viewer set. I love it. Picked up from JointedRail.
Weird, didn't even know that existed.
Looks good!
Hi there, I like the look of your layout, will be great once completed and excellent with the sound turned on.
