Lovely footage. Great video. I work in the petrol station in Erskine. Just watched a documentary on the bridge build. The main reason was to get workers from Dunbartonshire to Renfrewshire. To work in car manufacturing in Linwood, ship building in Greenock, etc.. I feel a Proclaimers song coming on.

The Transpennine route a high speed line. Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. its high speed if its above 100mph. Its 60mph for much of the route.

so this bridge is like 250 meters tall, while Denmarks highest point is 170 meters. This dude was the highest standing person in all Denmark at this very moment.

What I like about this Humber Bridge is the fact that the hanger cables are not vertically down as in the Tacoma Bridge, When the hanger cables are vertically down, then there are rectangles formed, and rectangles and squares can change their shape into a rhombus through changing their angles. This would permit the deck to oscillate a little reflecting the oscillation on the main catenary cables. This could lead to instability as standing waves can form along with the deck and along with the catenary cables acting as guitar strings. In the modern cable-stayed bridges they are full of triangles and with three sides the triangle is a geometrical figure that cannot change its shape, The Humber Suspension bridge did well to chose the hanger cables to be triangular rather than vertical as this added better stability, It would still oscillate a little but the triangulation of the hanger cables would damp this down much better than if the hanger cables were vertically upright as in many of the older suspension bridges. Well done to all the designers and the workers who had a hand at making this bridge, I would have added a few wider triangles from the main towers to the deck as the more modern cable-stayed bridges including the new one at Queensferry Scotland. That would enable the replacement of any cable, I saw the Forth Suspension Bridge being built at about 1960 and that has vertical hanger cables which I did not favor and did talk about it to the workmen but it remained at that level as I was only a young student at Newcastle University. The Forth suspension Bridge which was erected at about 1960 does not have a long life as the older cantilever bridge a few yards away from it. ua-cam.com/video/tgeFKVX2C-o/v-deo.html

Have to add a comment here. I don't work for spencer group, but whilst I was climbing my way out of that dark hole depression puts you in Spencer's were constructing the Stevenage turnback, and I found videoing and documenting the project something to focus on and gave me purpose. I received excellent support and encouragement from Spencer's with some of the team following my videos of their progress. The peak of this was being invited to meet the lovely lady I had been communicating with via e-mail, and key staff on site and invited to walk the new line with them the video can be seen here ua-cam.com/video/twttQnI-Soc/v-deo.html I feel that if spencers can recognise the importance of mental health support to someone who is not employed by them, then they must be a wonderful company to work for. I still stay in contact with the manager, and feel proud when I get asked if they can use my material for whatever reasons. Where is the Hull border post going to be?

Amazing to see this footage and to capture the whole preservation of UCB over the coming months. Especially at this time with limitation on travel. I managed to drive over it in the summer knowing it was a moment in time and I wouldn't be doing that again for a while.
