My first amazingly delicious tomato of 2024/Tomato Taste Test #2
Hi Everyone!!! I hope you enjoy the second taste test I’ve been able to edit but I of course have a correction that needs made. I spelled Jaune Flamme wrong. I apologize for my mistake and hopefully I did ok with the rest. I hope you have a lovely day.

You’ll see some pretty cool mushrooms, pop up. I will get these chips from tree cutters, big piles, throw coffee grounds from Starbucks in there and have my chickens climb all over them look for bugs and poop and they would spread them out and make soil for me plus I have millipedes making millipooh

Hmm, I wonder if the Dwarf Berry Multiflora was an offshoot of the Berry’s Crazy Cherry. They are also a pale multiflora variety and the plants aren’t very tall either. (& the name… coincidence?) Might have been like a 2nd or 3rd gen plant that was grown out and cultivated.

I really appreciate that y’all aren’t afraid to say something isn’t good. I have found that lots of people when they review tomatoes they’re so scared of saying something tastes bad. I just really appreciate the honesty bc I hate investing so much time into something that’s just going to disappoint. And I just love growing things that others are enthusiastic about.

It was me 🙋🏼‍♀️I told you to skip Northern Lights. It’s good if you have a really short season because it’s a large tomato that ripen early, but yeah, the mush factor ☹️ I gave away all my Scarlet seeds because I didn’t think I would ever grow it. Those huge dense hearts never seem to ripen before the end of my season, but now I’m kicking myself!

Some years are just bad no matter what you do. This year the rice farms around here are having a bad crop, about 25% less than expected. Not just one farmer. In fact, they called farmers in Louisiana and they are having a bad year also. Sometimes things just go wrong and nothing we can do about it. Just makes it tough when the previous year was a bumper crop.

I am wondering if the ground cherry variety you have is actually Peruvian ground cherries (Cape Gooseberries) as they do not drop their fruit (like Aunt Molly's and other ground cherry types do). So you just pick them when the husk is dry like you did :)

Any veteran gardener experiences poor garden years. It can be a devastating feeling. I like to do quick little harvest videos for myself, even during an awful year. It actually helped me see the positive. That even during an awful year, the garden produced something, and some things actually did well despite all the negative. I just had trouble seeing it because I was focused on all the negative. Your garden still looks green, and while you have had some setbacks, you still have time to get something back. Hang in there

This year was brutal.. 80 MPH winds twice, and 3 weeks of no rain and 95+ plus temps. I had to water like crazy to keep the plants going. Luckily I have a small garden. For ground cherries, you can make them into a jam, just heat with a little sugar and lemon to taste, they don't require pectin. Jam has a different flavor compared to fresh ground cherries.

Peppers look good! I’m so glad some things made a comeback. Foxgloves are biennial- they should flower for you next year. They are heat and drought tolerant ! Next year could you run a soaker hose out to just one or two beds so you at least have some plants you can keep watered for a harvest if it goes sideways again next year?

It was a tough year and sometimes you have to stop and do a reset so you don’t give up completely. Lessons were learned and changes will be made. I’m hoping that Mother Nature is a bit kinder to us all next year. And in the meantime you just found out that you have things growing and not all died in the heat and drought. Micropalooza is a new season and being indoors allows for a bit more control. Hugs

You got a taste of that Texas heat. It’s something else! 🥵 Last year it was 100° and drought for us. This year was very wet and a little cooler; like a tiny teeny bit cooler 🙄 Bacon, Lettuce & This is such a great tomato name ❤ I’m so jealous of your early fall temps 💚 Your squash patch looks great. I’ve been doing a lot of cleanup too. The weeds are bananas, but I’m determined to get them under control 🤨🤞 “Get it, Bumblebee “🐝 😂 It’s definitely been a challenging year. Don’t be so hard on yourself 🥰🫶 Sending love & encouragement!
