the expiration date on food, if it's not milk, means nothing. there are no regulations and the dates are now called "best by' meaning that's when the manufacturer thinks they will taste best by. you can safely keep canned food for years - though as it hits the 10 year mark, it might start loosing nutrition value. also, a can might be rusty on the outside, but the rule is - if it's not leaking or bulging, it's fine. if it's rusted all the way through, to where the food can be contaminated, it'll be leaking the contents

So we find the commen used price of the item and pay 20-25 percent of that cost. We need to make 20-25 percent profit man

Selling at a pawn shop is rare for me, but when I do, my bottom is 40% of the value if I'm desperate, but I would try to get it at 50+% if I can. If you get get one of those generators new for 530$, but the pawn shop is trying to get you 80$ then that's 15%. I understand that it's used and the pawn shop is a business not a charity, but your right, that's a low ball price. 212$ is 40% of 530$, that should be the bottom in my opinion.

Pawn shops do have bills you know. They have to pay lease on building (several thousands) and electricity as well as pay employees. Do you really think they’ll be able to do that if they pay you 300 for a USED generator then they’ll be losing money once they sell it for 250.00😂😂😂😂

Never sell anything to a pawnshop.

This guy obviously doesn’t know how a pawn shop works. They know the genretator retails new for 550.00 and know that used they go for 225.00. And on top of that they need to make half of what they think it’s worth USED. So if they figured they could sell it for 200 instead of 225 then they’ll offered you no more than 100. So that 80.00 was not that bad.

So you paid double MSRP for it? And tried selling it to a pawn shop shortly thereafter? I recommend eliminating any and all middlemen to make sure those funds go in your pocket

You should really be listing that on any of the selling apps or marketplaces for 2 or 3. Or just getting a loan from a pawn.

a pawn shop is a loan on the items you come pick back up it's not a place to just flat out sell stuff you don't want.

After that pawn shop pays Employees,taxes insurance,rent, light bill ECT. There really isn't much profit at all. That's why they aim for over 100% profit

Only a desperate moron goes to a pawn shop with anything of value hoping to get even half the value . They not only are paying for the they will have to keep on a shelp space for who knows how long and have employees pay to sell it

you're conflating their cost $80 with what they will retail it for. A used market RETAIL is around 60% of retail value if it's fair condition. That's about $300. They need to earn at LEAST 100% markup or double cost vs retail, so if they give you $80 they're retailing it at $160-$200. That's how much it costs to maintain a brick and mortar store, pay rent, utilities, staff, etc. There also needs to be at least 20% "negotiation room", so if they retail it at $200, they're letting it go at $160 and still profitable. If you don't like it, sell it private party, but i'm sure you already knew that.
