Sahishnu Jadhav Takes on the English Channel Again
30th July 2024 - Dover, UK - For many, conquering the English Channel is a once-in-a-lifetime achievement, but for Sahishnu Jadhav, it was just the beginning. This tenacious 16-year-old swimmer from Pune, India, took on the Channel once more on July 29th, 2024.
Last year, Sahishnu battled the Channel's icy waters for 16 hours as part of a six-person team. This year, he joined Steven and Matthew, forming the formidable Marine Mavericks three-person relay team. Despite swimming double the distance, they completed the swim in 15 hours and 8 minutes. Remarkably, Sahishnu is the youngest Indian among the 65 Indians who have ever swum the English Channel twice at this age. Sahishnu’s journey into swimming history began last year at the age of 15. "The jellyfish were still intimidating," Sahishnu acknowledged, "but juggling schoolwork with training pushed me to my limits. I remember taking an exam, heading straight to a qualifying swim, and then sitting for another exam the next day. It was gruelling but strengthened my resolve."
Hailing from Pune and carrying the spirit of Pandharpur, Sahishnu swam not just for personal glory but to inspire and give back to his community and school. "I was fortunate to have this opportunity," he said humbly. "If I could achieve this, imagine what others could do with the right support and facilities. That's why I was swimming - to make a difference."

The last two hours saw seven-foot-high swells and tides that nearly forced the pilot to abort the swim when they were just 0.3 miles from the French shore. Sahishnu swam for a total of 5 hours, covering approximately 15 kilometers. The route typically takes an S shape due to currents, wind, and high tides.
Sahishnu and his teammates brought unique strengths to the Marine Mavericks. Together, they formed a powerful trio, united by their passion for swimming and a shared goal of making a positive impact.
