    Thinking about buying this kit - so glad to see this review first. Hoping @wittworks takes your idea of an adjustable sleeve for the dust collection part and makes a V2. Also, just wanted to say how cool is it that people are prototyping , manufacturing, and then getting immediate feedback by end users…thanks UA-cam, 3D printing, and inspiring makers such as yourselves!

    Using a dust collector needs more volume of air. Small tool-ports are better suited for dust extractors that are higher pressure. That maybe you issue. Hose maybe too small to get the volume of air needed for a 3 hp collector.

      @JHGWoodcraft 24 дні тому

      Could be, though works ok on my sander and biscuit cutter. I'll try using the shop vac (higher pressure lower volume) and see if that's better.

    Jedidiah, oh my. This is the first time a youtube has reviewed one of my tools. That's a crazy feeling! I like your sleeve adjustment idea. I had much better dust collection with my makita and Milwaukee and bosch ones...I'm wondering what the difference is.

    • @JHGWoodcraft
      @JHGWoodcraft 29 днів тому

      Whoo hoo! I get the honor of being the first! It's a great tool! May be the difference in the bit types or the router housing also. I need to test using it to trim vs putting an edge on it also. And MDF in this case, probably finer particles.... All factors.

      Do you think using a shop vac would make a difference instead of a dust collector?

    My guess is that the blade is pushing the piece laterally but it's so slight you don't notice it move. Try clamping and cutting.

    Just curious if the wood has a twist or a small cup? I was having the same problem then noticed short pieces were ok but the long ones weren't. Run it on a jointer and check it out. Peace

      In this case the material was ok but have run into that exact issues on past projects.

    If it is the fence casting that is off you may try to carefully block sand it flat or make a wooden zero kerf fence to soak up the error. Other issues that i’ve had through the years with my saws that can throw off your accuracy - thin kerf blades try a thicker blade, less side flexing. - with heavy angle cuts after the initial cut dont lift the blade while its spinning the upcut can buzz your finished cut outta wack. Slide the material away to the side. - saw head bearings can wear out and cause blade vibrations and terrible accuracy Good luck

      Great insights, thanks for the inputs for me and other! And yeah going to try to block sand or even a micro shim to start. (For now i can cut on the right and no issues)

      Also you can draw a border around the "plug" when carving inlays. That way you don't have to pocket out the whole work piece.

    Very informative video. I assumed the clamps applied equal pressure in both directions, in and together. I might DIY some and play around with some ideas of my own. I wonder, if the “arms” of the end pieces were shorter would there be more inward pressure of the two bars?

    • @JHGWoodcraft
      @JHGWoodcraft 4 місяці тому

      Yeah you get more pressure from the sides than top and bottom.

    I've had those clamps for about a year. I only have done one glue up with them, it was a nightmare. I couldn't keep anything aligned, the center clamping bar in the head wouldn't stay centered on the work piece, nothing worked right. MAYBE I'll give it another go before I sell them.

    • @JHGWoodcraft
      @JHGWoodcraft 6 місяців тому

      wow that's unfortunate! I wonder what the issue was why it wouldn't align. Well I hope it works for you next time, or maybe try one of the alternatives in the comments.

    Gotta respectfully say I don't think this is a very fair review due to the use of biscuits. How are the clamps supposed to completely flatten if movement is restricted like that?

    • @JHGWoodcraft
      @JHGWoodcraft 7 місяців тому

      Yeah that's a fair call out! I will say having used these claps and others with and without biscuits my results were essentially the same. Even with the biscuits you can still get buckling. Now if you join material 1/2 or thinner it doesn't seem to flatten as well. You do make a very good point. Maybe I should redo without the support. thank you for checking it out and providing feedback.
