This is exactly what happened to mine! Was trying to fix to play with my son. Waiting for parts to arrive. Thank you!
You are so smart! It’s fun to watch you fix old toys!! Thanks for sharing!
Great video John! It’s fun to see the ads for the toy and the prices from back when it was released. 😊
All past Radio Shack catalogs are available from this site: www.radioshackcatalogs.com/
What a great truck you built! Coco at the end playing with the truck is adorable. 🐾 So glad that you are doing so well since your stem cell transplant. Many prayers were said for you and your family in our house while you were recovering and we are so happy to see you doing so well. 🙂
Thanks for the kind words!
The fact that you sent it to your sister and brother-in-law had me laughing… 🤣 Great job fixing it! Can you use alcohol to clean corrosion off any part or is it just for specific parts? I’m curious if I can use it in a tiny flashlight I have that a battery leaked in. 🔦🔋
Use gloves when extracting the leaky batteries and cleaning out the corrosion. You can get chemical burns on your hands from the leaked chemicals. I use Windex and Denatured Alcohol for minor corrosion. Wire brush and sandpaper for heavier corrosion. Denatured Alcohol can cause issues with some plastics, so test it on a small spot first.
@ Will do as far as the gloves go. This is inside a little metal flashing (has some sentimental value or I wouldn’t mess with it). It doesn’t look like there was much leakage, but I can see a small amount. I will try the Windex first since I have a little bit here. Thank you for the advice I appreciate it. ☺️
🐔🥚🥚🥚, Great job. Fun toy!
Thanks for watching!
I know I always say this, but you are so smart! It amazes me how you know how to fix things!!
If only I used my skills for good and not evil :-)

Thanks for watching!
You are brilliant!! It is cool to watch you repair things and to have the knowledge to do so!!
Thanks for watching!
So awesome to have such talent
I spent 10 years working in the industrial electronics field before switching to computers.
That’s wonderful that you were able to repair this game! Was this a time consuming project? It doesn’t seem like it was in the video, but I know it probably took more than 5 minutes to repair. ☺️ Great video John.
I spent about 8 hours on this project including repair, creating a script, and filming.
I’m either so overtired I’m imagining things, or I watched this video last night… 🤔 In any event, I’m glad you didn’t end up throwing the truck out the window. 😄 It’s a neat toy and for being 45 years old looks like it’s in nice condition. I’m curious, do you know the approximate weight of this truck? Thank you for the fun video John. 😊
I resubmitted this video because I omitted a segment on remote testing. The truck weighs 1lb 9oz without batteries and 1lb 14 oz with.
@@RustBeltVintageToyRepair Oh good, I haven’t lost my mind! 😄 It’s a decent weight for a toy that large. Toys from when I was younger always seem heavier or more sturdy than today’s kids toys. Thanks for letting me know the weight John. 😊
Hi John! I think my younger brother had this. So cool! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Hi John! This toy looks cool! Thank you for sharing!
This is an entertaining toy set!
Hi John! Thank you for sharing!😊

Hi John! Awesome game!
I remember playing this game as a kid :-)
Hi John! Sorry I’m late to watching your videos. I’m planning to catch up! So great to see you on UA-cam! I’m definitely going to suggest my husband to watch your channel, I know he’s into the fixing toys etc. Thank you for sharing!

My kids had this toy😊
This was a very popular toy in the 1990s!
No wonder you and Bonnie are so perfect together, you both have awesome hobbies!
We do :-) Thank You!
Hey John😊.. Excellent content!
Thank You!
This is so nostalgic. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
They don’t make fun toys like these anymore.
I agree, this toy was very creative and ingenious.
What a fantastic toy! The repair portion of the video was amazing. You are very talented when it comes to fixing things. Wonderful video John. 😊
Thanks for watching!
I just got this set from Goodwill for my toddler but the motorized chassis doesn’t work!! The terminals are very corroded and I’m not sure if the motor even turns on anymore. Going to follow your steps here and see if I can get it working again. Might need your help though if I can’t figure it out.
Thanks for watching! My repair steps in this video should help.

You know this toy looks VERY familiar. I’m about 90% sure that I saw this toy with my cousin (who would have been about the right age to play with this toy in the late 70’s) at one of his grandparents homes. It was set up under a window next to a very old organ I used to play with. I took a screenshot of the toy and am sending it to my aunt in the morning to see if she remembers if I’m correct. I never played with it, but it stuck out to me because it did take up a fair amount of space under the window. Very interesting repair on this toy. A bit more involved than corrosion in the battery compartment for sure. Thank you for sharing this toy with us John; it has brought back some memories that I haven’t thought about in a very long time. 😊
The Tomy Big Loader Construction Set was a very popular toy in the late 1970s :-)
@@RustBeltVintageToyRepair My aunt got back to me immediately and said it was the toy under the window! She was so surprised to see it and even more surprised I remembered it after all these years. ☺️
There are many Big Loader Construction Sets on eBay. You could relive the magic!
Next up, retrofit with modern LED lighting.
That would be a good retrofit!
Came out the year I was born!
I think you might be out of luck on the blank message sheets, but I’d be curious to know what happened if you did send it in. 😄 It’s so cool that it works! It is quite loud as you mentioned, but it is really neat. Thank you for sharing it with us John. 😊
This would be a cool ornament for a home bar!
Awesome video! Hope you keep these coming :)
Thanks for watching!
Merlin or simon next!
Oh, I don't think I have either in my toy arsenal. I did like how Merlin had many different games.
