This is a test of the HP z240 I built with a 7th gen Xeon CPU 32GB RAM and a RX 5700XT Red Devil GPU. I am certainly not an expert game player for (any) Doom so please be gentle... lol I recorded this in front of the TV so it is the raw footage and no tricks..... 60 FPS 1080p Ultra Nightmare graphics settings.....

This was a test to see how well the Quadro a2000 6GB gpu pairs with a 6th gen Xeon CPU in a sff case with only a 240 watt power supply for God Of War. Didnt finish the fight scene to avoid any spoilers.... GPU only pulls about 70 watts and still gives very good performance and pairs very well with this CPU both utilized around 100%, High settings & DLSS Balanced... Please touch my like thingy S...

HP Z440 Server temp memory fan bypass w/o getting the error at boot when all memory slots are full.

This shows how to remove the black fan connector and add jumpers to eliminate the error message at boot up for the memory fan shroud if you do not have one or waiting for one to arrive. You will need a pair of pliers and 2 jumpers to complete this simple temporary hack. This is ONLY for temporarily fixing the issue until you can get a fan shroud as it does not correct the issue on a reboot, onl...
Putting a 2.5in SSD into an old 3.5in hard drive.
Переглядів 67Рік тому
Just something to do to add to a system for speed and noise control. It is a Crucial 2TB SSD going into an old 2TB Seagate drive that died on me. I added some thermal pads to transfer any heat out to the case if it generates any. Was just board and needed a way to secure it to the pc as I didn’t not have a 2.5 in drive sleeve. A really quick review of the i fix it tool kit. IMO it is way overpriced and you can get a bigger selection of tool for 1/3 the price. This kit was only 80 pieces if you include the case… I am not impressed at all. Please remember to like share and subscribe…

How did you attach the arctic fan on the inner front of the case please
the jumper hack does not work on a reboot. for a more permanent fix, connect the memory fan connector pins 3 and 4 (tach) to the rear 90mm fan's tach pin 2 (tach), even on a reboot it will not display an error
could you do a video of how to do this thanks Peter
thanks man, it works, rebooting and no error message
I just found that for HP Z6 G4 the mem fan has 4 pins, which are: 1 for ground, 2 for 12V, 3 for RPM sense, and 4 for PWM control. Which pins should I put a jumper on in order to get rid of the 517 error? Thanks a lot! Your video is fabulous.
Thanks so much for sharing!
I just bought the stupid front fan kit, and I have a nVidia Tesla P4 installed (with its 3d printed fan shroud and that fan running off of SATA Power separately) and its still giving me the stupid front fan required in this configuration bios error. Does ANYONE know, or know where I can figure out how to disable this? Because I have the stupid fan and its STILL throwing it...
I have one with E5 1620 V3 and 32 gb and a K2200 Quadro. Goes very well. I might throw a 1650 in it. Unfortunately it has the 500 watt PSU.
does not work after reboot, unfortunately 😕
I just bought a HP Z840 on ebay which will be delivered in the next few days. It only has a HD. So I'm looking to get the fastest SSD to boot from. Do any NVmes work in these HP Z turbo drives? Are all the drives the same?
Thanks for watching your video. Is there any way to adjust the speed of the memory fan? I found that it still makes a lot of noise even when the temperature is not high.
Excellent stuff for us who took the hardware out of the z440 case and put it in a regular high airflow atx case, with 3x140mm fans. :)
Cool! But how did you find out that this is the way to do it? Just trying to learn something new...
It actually started with my HP Z240 that threw a fan error if you installed a aftermarket PSU with an adapter cable. Not all adapter cables are the same - Long story short I know there is a power pin groung pin and signal pin and the signal is usally what tells the system there is a fan there. Grounding this pin bypasses that check just like in the z240 that I started with...
@@douglomax7461 So how did you find out which pins two be connected? I suppose you measured the voltage of each pin? I got a HP Z6 G4, which has 4 pins for the mem fan. Looks like I need to figure out a way to finding out correct pins to put a jumper on.
Thanks , you r Good
Is the GTX 1080 running off the stock 400W PSU? I'm interested in doing a similar build myself
yes this is the 400 watt stock psu with a 6 pin to 8 pin adapter on the card.
please show us front fan jumper connections bruh!
Interesting, this video never came up in search for Z240 stuff , found it when I ran across your z440 memory fan mod.... Z240 is a great machine, I set one up for my better half and works great! Same Xeon and running 4 sticks of 4gb =16gb which came with it . She did not care for the Asus Tuf GTX 1650 oc card I picked up in the price craziness last year, so recently updated the power supply to a Thermaltake Toughpower GX2 80+ Gold 600W , Comeap PSU adaptor and used Gigibyte GTX 1080 ... She really loves it , and it runs great . Now she wants bling , and it really does need better cooling , already added case fans and modded the case door with mesh venting, but worried about the hard drive bay cooling. Still rocking a 4tb mech drive and a 1tb mx500 ssd , gets hot in the drive bay cage. If it was me I would just stick a slim 92mm fan in the front of the drive bay air intake with the dremel and call it a day , but she thinks the OEM case is not flashy enough :) I like the carbon wrap and what you have done overall, if it was mine I would do the same. Got her on order a modern micro atx case with all the fans and argb stuff she wanted for a great price. Keep it up !! Subbed and liked !! :)
This will be great to use in a case swap and loading up all the udimm slots :)
I just got a HP z440, gonna be a great machine / work horse :)
Doesn’t work on my HP Z400
I dont know about compatibility with the Z400 systems, but I had to update the BIOS in one of my HP z440's before it would work.
I already had the latest BiOS, so not much more you can do.
@@rompstar ua-cam.com/video/_6T16RCqVDA/v-deo.html
@@rompstar You have to modify the card to get it to work on any system.
@@douglomax7461 Just the standard newest bios for the mobo?
I just ordered the fan and housing. It was like $30 on ebay
The problems arise when you move the motherboard and stuff to an aftermarket case and then you no longer have a way for the shroud to sit properly. You kinda have to do this fix in that scenario and in such a scenario the modules are fine since the aftermarket case has much increase airflow anyway.
@@theexile4694 Yeah I'm using the stock case. Airflow seems adequate.
worked for 9 x HP Z440, for one it's not :( , bios and all the other drivers are up-to-date. i will need to figure out what the hell is going on.
just what i needed. the memory cooling unit is 120 USD on ebay, and the message stops the boot on my hp z6 g4 workstation.
Hi bro, HP Z6 G4 mem fan has 4 pins, while this one has 6 pins. Can you please share how did you use the jumper? Thanks!
@@xinboli1062 I ended up getting bigger sticks of memory so i can use only 4 of them, that way i didn't get the error. i also was able to put on a much bigger CPU cooler (Noctua NH-U14S DX-4677), the memory cooler would be in the way of. so i never ended up doing then jumper.
Fantastic tip. Just what I was looking for. Got hold of one of these last week. I can't populate all-the-slots. I have 8x *Gb sticks. 3 came with the workstation, and I bought 5 more. These work fine in any combination using 4 slots to the right of the CPU (from pov used in your video) and the left-most slot. If I put anything (even on its own) in any combination that includes the three slots immediately to the left of the CPU, I get a post error (beep and red flashing light). I am aware of the installation order, as shown on the inside of the cover. Whatever I put in those 3 slots causes a problem. All the memory sticks checked out and work alone and in combination with others (old and new). Have you seen this before?
@kyberzyler you may have a defective memory controller (which is on the CPU) or bent cpu socket pins... they dont have to be bent much to cause a problem.
@@douglomax7461 thanks, I shall try reseating the cpu and then replacing. Can't see a problem with the slots, but, of course, might not be possible to see by eye anyway.
Would I be able to remove the orange parts of the cases out and stack them? I think I'm gonna order regardless and if I can't get em out I'll just slice the hinge and stack em
Hey. What's the type of the jumper you're using to bridge these pins?
www.amazon.com/MEETOOT-Standard-Connection-Motherboards-Accessories/dp/B09L7JXHTF/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=hard+drive+jumper&qid=1688008039&sr=8-3
Good review
Hi, I have a quick question this fix worked pretty awesome when I shutdown and turn on the PC, but the error still appears if I reboot the PC, can you help me please to confirm if you face the similar issue? I’m planning to buy the fan baffle and dissemble it because I’m not using the HP case, any advise is appreciated.
Hi, I experience the same issue. Works fine when you boot the machine but the error still persists when rebooting. Definitely not ideal if you can't reboot your server. Every time I'm not home but have to reboot the system I just shut it down and use another machine to send wake on Lan command to boot it back up. I might just invest in a fan shroud. This is too annoying.
I also have the same issue. Could you find out how to solve this?
Thank you for your effort, you saved a day!
GREAT TIP! I'm building a Z440 right now and having all kinds of CPU, Front LED/Power, system fan issues, but I'll go ahead and make your recommended pin jumpers because I have all 8 DIMMS populated with Kingston 32 gig ECC memory with NO mem fan shroud.
Please let me know if the fix from this video worked for you! The memory fan issue is still present when I reboot the PC
@@RobRetroComputers , I just got my 24pin to 18 pin adapters and other misc jumper adapters in the mail so I'm looking to start this build soon. What I will do is throw up some information in these comments to add to our collective work here.
@@brandonunger1689 awesome, let’s continue in touch!
Hi, thanks for great vídeo and working Doug.
does that message that you need the shroud pop up at EVERY reboot? or just once? my guess is everytime, otherwise there would not need to be a workaround like you showed here. thanks!
Only if you have all the memory slots filled
@@douglomax7461 yes, all slots, but the error shows at every start-up, right?
@@otdosa yes every start up
@@douglomax7461 yeah I figured,Otherwise it wouldn't need a fix. But now I know how to fix it,thanks!
Hello! This really helped me with three machines. And it’s not just all slots. I have 128GB (4 slots) in two and 48 GB (six slots) in a third. All three machines throw the error.
Looks like a good kit.
Fun fact the PCB inside the SSD's case is pretty small and in most cases can be removed and run without the unneeded metal bits. I don't think they even need the 2.5 size case as a thermal solution. (though one could argue the 3.5 drive would make a much better heatsink then the original case if you can thermally connect the board to the 3.5 drive). It might have been easier to just take it out and mount in place of the original PCB on the 3.5 drive. Though you might still need to tap new screw holes and perhaps add some insulation between the board and the hard-drive case. EDIT: Unless you meant to make this as a usable adapter housing for any 2.5 SSD you come across and isn't dedicated to that one SSD you put in it. Then my idea wouldn't be as convenient in that case.
A honest review 😎
Nice review my man!!
