Anti ACC Hike Rally
This Anti-ACC Hike Rally is in response to the increase in the ACC Levy component of the motorbike registration fee. The riders rode their bikes to Cathedral Square, Christchurch to show they opposed this unjustified increase.

The Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) in New Zealand is a unique, government-run insurance scheme that provides financial and medical support for people who suffer personal injuries. It is essentially a no-fault insurance system, meaning that people are covered regardless of how their injury happened or who was at fault. Here’s an overview of its purpose, background, and how it works, including a brief look at how premiums are calculated.
Purpose of ACC
The ACC scheme was created to provide coverage for all residents and visitors in New Zealand who experience injury. This includes everything from workplace accidents to sports injuries and injuries sustained in motor vehicle accidents. ACC covers the costs of treatment, rehabilitation, and compensation for lost earnings, aiming to reduce the long-term impacts of injury for individuals and society.
Why ACC Exists
Before ACC, people in New Zealand had to sue for compensation if they were injured due to someone else's fault, which was a long, costly process and often did not result in adequate support. ACC was introduced through the Accident Compensation Act of 1972 as a more efficient and equitable system for dealing with personal injury. It replaced the ability to sue for personal injury (except in rare cases) with a guaranteed right to support and compensation through the government.
How ACC Works
Coverage: ACC covers everyone in New Zealand, including non-residents and temporary visitors, for injury-related costs. Coverage includes medical treatment, support for rehabilitation, weekly compensation for lost income, and even some support for home and vehicle modifications in cases of long-term disability.
Funding: ACC is funded by levies collected from employers, employees, vehicle owners, and through government contributions. These funds are pooled into different accounts based on the types of injuries they cover:
Work Account: Covers work-related injuries, funded by employers.
Earners’ Account: Covers non-work injuries for those employed, funded by employee contributions.
Motor Vehicle Account: Covers injuries from motor vehicle accidents, funded by vehicle licensing fees.
Non-Earners’ Account: Covers people who aren’t employed (e.g., children, retirees), funded by government contributions.
Treatment Injury Account: Covers injuries resulting from medical treatment.
Claims and Services: When someone suffers an injury, they can file a claim through a healthcare provider (e.g., doctor, hospital) or directly with ACC. ACC assesses the claim and covers eligible expenses, including medical treatment and, if applicable, loss of income after a certain period (often one week).
Calculation of ACC Levies
The levies that fund ACC are calculated based on several factors, including:
Income and Employment Type: Employees pay a levy based on their earnings, which is calculated as a percentage of their income up to a certain cap. Employers and self-employed individuals pay levies based on their industry, which reflects the level of risk associated with different jobs.
Risk Profile: The ACC assigns different levy rates to different industries based on the likelihood and cost of claims in that industry. For example, construction companies typically pay higher levies than office-based businesses.
Motor Vehicle Levies: Motor vehicle levies are based on the type of vehicle, with higher-risk vehicles (e.g., motorcycles) incurring higher levies due to the increased likelihood of injury.
In summary, ACC is a comprehensive, no-fault injury insurance scheme designed to provide financial, medical, and rehabilitative support for all individuals injured in New Zealand, regardless of fault. Its funding and levy calculation are carefully structured around risk and income to ensure sustainability and fairness across different sectors and groups.

Those of us who cannot afford to buy a car at current prices settle for t-shirts.
日本ではバイクに乗る若者が減っていて、割とおじさんの乗り物なのですがタイではオシャレなファッションアイテムのようですね。私もじじいですがDaxかHunterかで迷っています。
It's easier to afford a motorcycle than a car in Thailand, which is a factor in its popularity and fashion.
Yo!!! Awesome video Steve! Makes me want to come visit :)
Thanks, Isaac. I really enjoyed my time there & can recommend it!
So we’re the photo of what you looked like after walking down the road with all them paint guns
There isn't one. They're water guns anyway. I did get very wet & can confirm the camera is waterproof even if the sound from the mic is odd from time to time.

Yes
I believe the early barn door busses get that moniker from the engine lid, due to its size. Thanks for showing Thailand's VW scene!
Thanks for letting me know that; I wasn't aware I was focusing on the wrong door 😁
PVC, latex , pleather and wetlook spandex seems to be not popular there ?
I think it's because it's hot here there's less of that. In The Castle video I did they wear some of that gear there.

Thanks for the update. I'm no longer in Pattaya unfortunately.
Hi Im trying to find info on this license but I cant seem to find it. Did they end up following this through? I have a CBT license in the UK, but want to ride 400cc+ bikes in Thailand. Whats the process for this?
Hi, I've probably completed the same searches as you for up-to-date information, with the most recent being a year old. I have just heard back from people I know still in Thailand & they know of nothing new. I can't advise I'm sorry, my assumption is everything is as it was, more or less meaning if you hold a UK licence you'll be fine.
@@stevesuggests yea I looked into it too cheers. I can basically rent any cc bike on my international license which in the UK is a CBT license lol
I admire you for having the Guts to do a Video like this, good job, but try different Mics next time I think.
Thank you. When there's money to put into equipment I'll see what I can find.
So many great cars in another Country. Really glad you shared this.
Thanks for the feedback. This was a great venue too.
I really want to watch vintage cars my friend. ❤❤❤
I'll see what I can find for you 🙂♥️
I don't see any Samba's. Is it just me?
Sorry, I saw the splitties and didn't watch it right through. So it may be there are no Sambas in that video, though I thought there were a few here
No Samba's in Christchurch? Splitties?
They're here. Some are in this 2020 video ua-cam.com/video/QsJo0znouPg/v-deo.html but I've recently returned after a year away so I haven't seen any VWs really except for those shown here since I got back to NZ. Hopefully more will be out when the weather improves.
one thing that was overlooked on the dress code is the fact the castle is the only place in pattaya that charges a door fee which is understandable considering the nature of the club
Thanks for pointing that out. It was something I didn't think about mentioning, but like you say understandable that they charge for to the nature of the club. I understand similar clubs in Bangkok have entry fees.
@@stevesuggests The nature of the club is that people under 18 would not be let in anyway so how does that help?
@@schade80 I don't think anyone wants under 18's there anyway. It's an adult club.
Steve Love the Video and great questions for the people who may be new and aprehensive. Just a suggestion for you. A great deal of noise from your mic is being picked up. You may want to invest in a microphone.😀
Thanks Gary, I had 2 lavalier mics I used there. I think the problem came from trying to hide Miss Biw's mic under her dress, attached to her bra strap. I think the noise interference was her dress rubbing on the mic. A lesson learned though and thanks for your constructive comment 😀
@@stevesuggests ahh...that explains why the last bit was crystal clear🙏
@@garyscurlock5373 yes it is clearer at the end 👍
😊😊😊We are glad that you like our country. Thank you.
I enjoy Thailand a lot and can't wait to get back there. 😊
It’s open again?
Yes, it was business as usual when I made the video. Unfortunately I left Pattaya in April, so I don't know if this has changed. It seemed a good strong establishment so I'd assume it's still open.
Promo sm ☺️
Thanks for your feedback 😁
I did the UK run today in my Mini. This is so cool!!
It's great these runs are throughout the world. I'd love to be on your one, though! 😁
Just seen the our UK one, I live near the route, fabulous, now going to watch Italian job, have a great day!!!
Thanks; you have a great day too & keep loving Minis 😁
I'm definitely going there when I get to pattaya. Can you tell me what the entrance fee is. Can I get alcohol there. What do ladies charge for service
Hi, I'm sure you'll have a good time there. I'm no longer in Thailand and don't have details of prices sorry. Alcohol is available. There's an email address for enquiry on the Castle website. I'm sorry UA-cam terms prevent me from giving the website here.
Another Thailand Vlogging Legend in the making. Clever topic mate.
Thanks for the encouragement 👍
Your welcome. If you travel to Chiang Mai check out Ched Yod both the temple and nearby very small entertainment Soi's
@@redback462 that's interesting about chiang mai. 8s the place you mentioned similar to the castle

Good job 👍👍👍
Thank you 😁😁😁

❤️❤️❤️
Call me naive but do you actually get your Nat King Cole in this type of establishment?
I spoke with the owner (who doesn't appear in the video) who was adamant there's no prostitution here, so that may mean "no" if I've interpreted your question correctly. On the other hand a denial may be for politically correct reasons. I don't know for certain, sorry.
if thats what you are after i would suggest a normal bar
Ofcourse you can. You can even have scatplay if you want.
@@schade80 I give that a miss
Csn i bring a ladyboy as my sub?
Thanks for your question. I don't know the answer, but there's the opportunity to email the Castle from their webpage. I'm sorry, but UA-cam terms won't allow me to provide the link here. The Castle gave me the impression that all respectful people would be welcome. Good luck 🤞
Good video 😊😊😊
I'm pleased you liked it. thanks for your comment. 😁

Notchback!! These cars are all right hand drive!
Yes; it's the correct side for Thailand. Drive on the left, right-hand side driving.
Nice restorations of vintage VW's. I like Ghia's best. Glad to see Thai's have passion for these cars. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching! Ghia's are cool, but I've found myself drawn to Type 3's, with the Notchback of those being my least favoured.
Looking good Steve.

Thanks for taking the time to say so. It's nice to know the video has been useful.
Excellent thanks Mate
Hi Colin, thanks for the feedback; much appreciated. 🙂
I really enjoy watching all car show videos from Thailand. But the never-ending shouting on the microphones makes them sometimes unbearable to watch. Great video nonetheless.
Hi, and thanks for your comment. In hindsight, I'd have edited the shouting out in favour of a music track. Lesson learned for the next one 🙂
@@stevesuggests It's not just your video (Please don't take my comment as an attack on just your video) I watch a lot of car vids from other creators based in Thailand and there's always the loud shouting on the mics. Lol..
@@yootubenig I haven't taken your comment personally or as an attack. I do wish that I'd covered the shouting up; that's the lesson I've taken from this video 🙂
