    Yeah i'm pretty sure that most if not all of the top 10 list should be battles in China. For much of ancient history they were fielding armies a magnitude larger than pretty much anywhere else with just a few exceptions, Rome for example(but the Roman army was dispersed and spread out into legions of course by the point that Rome was a true great power, hence typically much smaller in practice in terms of individual battlefields). Rice is a powerful thing. It's so much more calorie-dense than any other grain that the fertile river valleys of the far east were fielding six-figure armies thousands of years ago, potentially even much longer but with no written record to document it.

      The battle of Wu Zhang Plains in the era of Qin circa 225-200BC against Zhao fielded 100,00 men against 100,00 in the most important battle of unification of China. The Yamnaya tribe in the Pontic step raided on horse back into central Europe with a tribe of 800,00 warriors in 800BC establishing black hair and eye phenotypes in Europeans.

    • @adamconner9302
      @adamconner9302 4 місяці тому

      @@Xceles618 The scope of a migratory horde moving through an entire region far exceeds that of the individual battlefield. It's quite unlikely that any individual battle undertaken by the Yamnaya came anywhere close to the scale of the battle of Wu Zhang Plains. You run into a hard cap with hordes far quicker than foot infantry. Each of those 800,000 warriors probably had 10 or more horses and many had families that would require even more horses. The nature of horde logistics was such that they had no choice but to disperse over areas potentially as vast as modern nations or there wouldn't be enough grass to keep the horses fed. Now I haven't looked into this specifically so I could be wrong, but I don't know of any horde-styled battles that had more than 30-40,000 riders involved and battles exceeding 10,000 were rare.
