Man Gets Two-Plus Life Terms in Resentencing December 17, 2005 "VISTA - A prison inmate was re-sentenced Friday to two consecutive life terms plus 52 years behind bars for kidnapping a woman and forcing her to remove thousands of dollars from the Vista bank that employed her. The new sentence was made necessary when the 4th District Court of Appeal last month overturned a conspiracy conviction against Christopher Steven Butler. Butler, who did not appear in court Friday, was found guilty of numerous other charges, including kidnapping and robbery, and the appellate court let those convictions stand. The defendant, along with Robert Ortiz and Christopher Huggins, broke into the Vista home of Michelle Renee, then known as Michelle Ramskill-Estey, on Nov. 22, 2000." Articles were found in the 70s about the high incidence of violence with children and families living in Onslow County, NC near Camp Lejeune USMC Base where the base had chemicals stored, used oil based metal degreasers. Chemicals permeated base soil and water supply for many decades causing diseases, miscarriages and deaths of Marines and their families. Officials lied. Covered up. Marines and their families suffer, die. Officials have proven they do not care about anyone but themselves and their money. One of the extraordinary aspects of "A Civil Action" is that both opposing lead attorneys (i.e., characters played by John Travolta and Robert Duvall) are likable, even though Duvall's character is representing some bad people. This seems to be rare in the movies. In the more classic legal confrontation, such as "The Verdict," Paul Newman's character is pitted again the "prince of darkness" attorney played brilliantly by James Mason. The only other great legal movie where opposing attorneys were likable that I can think of was "My Cousin Vinny," pitting Joe Pesci's character against Lane Smith's character.

I consider "A Civil Action" one of the greatest legal movies of all time. Other great ones (in no particular order) include "Anatomy of a Murder," "My Cousin Vinny," "Presumed Innocent," "Class Action," "The Verdict," and "Twelve Angry Men."

If anyone knows where I can find the whole documentary please let me know, that was my uncle.
